Great video! I had planned to go to Switzerland this September but didn't for obvious reasons.

A certain mixture of lake & mountains is always very tempting to me to stay there. The scenery at video above remind me first time I was temped such manner at Montreux. Palm trees at lakeside and a railway station with 3 gauges. Unfortunately my journey was business trip and there was no time to explore the scenery in and around Montreux esp. by the railways. Although I've sworn to myself I've never been there again.

+pega17pl Hello again Heinz, Interlaken is a great place to stay in Switzerland, you can buy a Bernese Oberland Regional Pass and visit Lucerne, Brig, Bern, Gstaad (Monteux wiil require you to pay half fare Gstaad to Montreax), Grindalwald, Lautarbrunnen, most of the mountain railways and some lake steamers. After researching so many videos you will need a holiday to recover, but wait until spring when the mountain lines will be open.

2 trips to Switzerland in 2012/17. both times on this train. Love the journey beyond Zweisimmen with the brilliant cab at the front of the train, directly under the cab. Amazing opportunity for 15 CHF above the Eurail pass.

Having made the trip, you are well aware of wonderful views from the train window. Each time I've taken the train to Montreux from Zweisimmen, I've been a participant in a railtour using the luxury Pullman style coaches, when I really wanted to do the trip in the train with passenger seats beneath the driving compartment, it looks awesome, maybe one day.

@@Timsvideochannel1 I fell in love with this trip after Great Railway journeys in 1980 which featured the train. When I saw that they had the panoramic coaches I thought it would be a bucket load of money to join but no! And Voila! Love your vids btw.

@@michaeljackson2838 Cheers, it's nice to know you enjoy these videos, I hope to get back to Switzerland next year and riding in the panoramic carriage is definitely on my "to do" list.

Tim, now you have me remembering some unusual train rides I have taken. The three that come to mind are Lima to Huancayo, Cuzco to La Paz, and by land across Bolivia to São Paulo. That was back in 1969.
@Timsvideochannel13 жыл бұрын
@@mrbisse1 Wow Frank, those train rides must have left you with some awesome memories, I'm not sure whether or not it is still possible to do all of them. Now 3 of my planned trips have been cancelled, the next is to Cuba to see what is left of their sugar cane and national railway system, I really hope it isn't cancelled as is will be the last opportunity to do some of the rides, if it is cancelled I will try to get on the tour to South America, both tours are offered by the Railway Touring Company www.railwaytouring.net/ The tours are expensive, but you only get one life and I'm determined to make the most of every day.

@@Timsvideochannel1 I remembered that we also rode a train from Tujillo, Peru on the coast up into the Callejo de Huaylas. When I have time, I will see what is left of those railways.

Finally got to watch this video. Nice cog railway, Pilatus, and fantastic scenery, one of the real cog railways or perhaps funicular (miss-spelled?) system. Nice video, thanks.
@Timsvideochannel18 жыл бұрын
+Peter M Hi Peter, I'm pleased you enjoyed it. The Pilatus Bahn is a cog railway, even our Golden Pass train used rack and pinion (cog railway) at times to climb the steepest sections.

You need to look at Swisspasses.com to get the details of the cheap fares and the very wide validity. It is usually valid on all the railways in the area, including the Pilatus rack line. On the through route from Luzern to Montreux, billed as "Golden Pass", you need to change trains at Interlaken Ost from narrow gauge to standard, and at Zweisimmen back again; and usually at Spiez as well. The train reverses at Meiringen, but you don't need to leave your seat.

Awesome. I am remembering things from other videos like "Brienz" means Bear right--did I spell it right.. Now if I can learn to pronounce the city names correctly. Was that an eagle that caught something at the side of the track. I had other questions but forgot. But I won't forget the views. Thanks for taking us along on your trips. Safe travels ahead. god bless

Hi, one of the advantages of watching videos by a number of creators is this they all portray a different angle even though the subject is the same. This is something television doesn't do so well. Have you bought that lucky lottery ticket yet? I look forward to you joining me on more video adventures. All the best. Tim.

Funny thing is there is a big one this week. I've been trying to decide should I or shouldn't I get one? Usually when I do-- I lose. When I don't think about it and by chance buy one-- I win (that goes for all contests for me anyways) LOL We shall see but doubt very much that will happen. And doubt I will ever have the chance of seeing such beauty over there. Sure would enjoy it. Wow what a country. I can't figure why people say they want to come here to live etc. When they have such beautiful country and live so much better in lots of ways there then us. Hmm. You keep them videos coming I will surely watch them. It's now my daily habit to do. Safe travels ahead. God bless. PS You edit your videos so well. You should be doing movies.

Hi, good luck with that ticket, should you decide to buy one. It is interesting what you say about people choosing where they live. I have learnt a lot about the country I live in (England) from travelling, I now realise the TV News is often inaccurate, because it is based on an opinion, that is often quite different from the reality. People are amazing, they adapt to live in the environment to which they are born, I see more happy people in India than almost anywhere else in the world, yet they are some of the poorest. My opinion of the former East European countries has completely changed, they are not the grey, miserable places portrayed by News Channels in the 80's and 90's, they are often pristine clean, beautiful places with good living conditions. They may not be rich, but they are nice places to live. Far too many people judge their living standard by their wage, forgetting the most important measure is happiness. I live in a town that has been changed a lot, the population is now 30% East European (15 years ago there were almost none). I can't help wondering why they have left such beautiful places and many tell me how much they miss home. I visit some of the towns they have left, these places have lost their brightest people, those that would make things happen, now they are populated by the elderly and less able ... not a great recipe for a bright future and these towns are now run down with many abandoned houses. The European Union is all about freedom of movement, but the reality is that the brightest move to the places where they can earn the most, with often disastrous results for the places they have left. It would have made far more sense to move the jobs to the people, rather than the other way round .... Politicians never think things through.

I agree far to many homes are empty here and businesses gone. So sad. Some people have to travel miles just to get to a grocery store here now. Use to be one almost every few blocks or at least one in each neighborhood. Not now. So many residents and not enough of anything close for everyone to get to. Seems to me there's a lot of talk about how bad everyone's doing and not enough about what to do to make things better or stop from whatever is happening to cause such changes. It's bad all over and everywhere now not just a few countries but everywhere. I pray the Lord will change things for the better for everyone everywhere soon. Thanks for the videos. I did go see the other one too. I am slowly seeing the ones I missed of yours. Still got lots to see. Safe travels ahead. God bless. PS I won't even get into the "P" word above. It's crazy for sure for everyone.

Switzerland is one of the few places that works for the community, they have strict controls on immigration, although they have to allow free movement of people to trade with the EU. My home in the UK is in a street of large family houses built around 1890 - 1900, one by one they are being converted into flats, which changes the character of the street, too many people, too many cars and no sense of community. Politicians tell us they are working in our interest, they also lie a lot. The indigenous population is falling, so why is it necessary to cover the green fields in yet more housing. The reason is simple, three Europeans move in for every one Brit that leaves. The trouble is, it is the best of the British that leave, my own son being one of them, he now lives in New Zealand. Britain has voted to leave the EU to regain control of its borders, yet still the EU is bullying Britain to accept even more Europeans into a very crowded Island. Nothing makes sense anymore, most of Europe has a far lower population density than Britain. I hope God guides our politicians, because they don't listen to voters. Anyway that's enough about politicians, it's great to take you along on this video tour of the countries I visit, the world is a wonderful place, full of amazing sights and I aim to see as many of them as I can, I work hard when I'm working because it allows me to travel in my free time. Take care and have you bought that lucky lottery ticket yet?

Hihi, may I ask you a few questions? 1) When the train reaches Meiringen, does it reverse its direction back towards Brienz? 2) Did u hav to change trains at Meriringen? Thanks!

Timsvideochannel1 thanks! It should also be the only way to get there via Brienz right? The other way would be a big round around Lake Thun ...

Timsvideochannel1 oh sorry I forgot to ask ... when you guys stopped by for Mt Pilatus... did u guys continue ur journey using the same ticket? Or must it be a separate ticket? many many thanks!
@Timsvideochannel110 жыл бұрын
jeremy lee Hi, we purchased a separate ticket for the Pilatus Gog Railway, although a reduction was available to those using a Swiss Rail Pass......Tim.
@Timsvideochannel110 жыл бұрын
Timsvideochannel1 Hi Jeremy, if you meant, do you require another ticket if you break your journey to ride the Pilatus Cog Railway, I can't answer that one as we were travelling on a Swiss Rail Pass...there is more than one way to get from Lucerne to Brienz, but this is the shortest and most logical route, it is possible to travel via Thun, but a look at a Swiss rail map shows it to be a much longer route....might be worth considering for a circular tour......Tim.
