Yes Clark. I hear what you are saying in this video and I agree with your very wise insights. As a mental health therapist I would like to say that there will be people out there who follow your videos who split hairs about the way you describe shadow work. Don't pay any attention to them. Some people have very strongly held opinions about how you should describe any mental health topic, whether mental illness, or growth over weaknesses (shadow work). The truth is I have had a wide-variety of clients and used very different language with each client based on how they needed to hear certain truths for their own healing and growth. Don't let others dictate how you describe shadow work. There is not a right or wrong way to describe the process. I get a little irritated with people who want to correct others and say we shouldn't use the word "weaknesses" when describing things we want to overcome as humans. These individuals think it is somehow a "judgy" word that means we are blaming others (or ourselves) while trying to move forward. Nope. We don't have to explain or change the way we describe the process of growth (shadow work) for the nit-picky folk who try to impose their definitions and semantic judgment on others. You are doing a great job on your channel. I love to watch your videos! If a client started correcting or complaining to me about how I describe shadow work to them. I would ask them how they would describe it. After letting them talk for a minute or two, I would follow up with saying "there are many ways to describe this process but we all know what we are talking about when we describe it." Then finally I would gently shut them down for trying to manipulate how others describe this process. It is an arrogant way for them to say "I know more than you do about this topic and you must describe it precisely how I would, otherwise you're an idiot!" I don't tolerate that kind of behavior towards me in my mental health practice. I have been a therapist more than 30 years and feel comfortable in my own skin when people challenge me. Turning that around, you have great mental health insight Clark. You hit it out of the park nearly every time. If you ever wanted to become a therapist it would be such an easy step for you. You already have that mindset. Yet I assume that you already love what you do! You inspire so many people! Just saying. From my mental health therapist background, you don't need to change your message for anyone or the way you describe the growth mindset. You are doing an excellent job and you are already an "expert" when it comes to describing these kinds of things. Yes, expert. You have put in the hard work over many years to learn this subject matter and it shows. Don't let the naysayers tell you anything.
@zion367 Жыл бұрын
@@crystallevin I fully agree that we dont have to adjust the definitions in order to keep others "untriggered". Their trigger is due to their own judgment, not ours. However, if you take it personal when others get uncomfortable with a certain term, then there is something for you to unpack. For them it is not about challeging you, but about a judgment they hold within themselves that gets triggered. If you are really comfortable in your skin then you can openly listen to their reasoning and you can gently guide them to deeper selfunderstanding on the topic without feeling challenged.

@onimusha134 ай бұрын
@@shwetakhedkar2708 the most important practice is to estabilish the space within you. It's most noticeable when you meditate and you cultivate the space between the thoughts. When you feel it and know it, you just cultivate the space within and do it indenifitely, with time it becoming your main mode of being. Anything else that arises in that space, you just let it be, whatever it is. Cultivate that space and let anything else be in it. It may take years, and it will be really hard at times, but it is it.

So how do you do shadow work?
@FreddieDaniells Жыл бұрын
More of this Clark please. You are getting to the essence of inner work. For me, my shadow work changed how I see others and, through that, how i see myself. Now I know, when meeting new people, everyone is ‘broken’ like me, and that is ok, because that is the human condition. Those insecurities, fears and defences are at the heart of all of us. It can sometimes actually be faintly amusing to see friends deny them while leaking them left and right! Of course ‘Society’ demands that we hide them but I nowadays can feel so much more compassionate when I see them because I have them in me too. That takes much of the pressure off me to be perfect. I can accept myself as normal, flaws and all. Keep spreading the good stuff.

@@cobblecattt haha! For sure. I constantly amaze myself with my own ability to surround myself in denial. I can and do contort whole areas of my life to maintain the charade. Again I think we all do. It’s a key method we use to protect ourselves from the reality of being the watchful, fearful animals that we really are. The magic is, of course, once we start to truly accept that reality, we can then start to use better strategies to manage it and enact real change in our lives.

Thank you for this, I’m hard on myself for having flaws, and sometimes hard on others (in my own head, mostly), so the reminder that everyone is flawed is appreciated. I also acted out of fear and unjustified anger last week, and kind of hurt one of my friends. (I was triggered, essentially, because while what she did sparked it off, my reaction to it had nothing to do with her)
@FreddieDaniells Жыл бұрын
@@ShintogaDeathAngel Thank you for commenting. Don’t worry, I have been working on this for years but still make all the same mistakes! You are normal! lol. The only tools I have found that help are to become aware of where my fears show themselves, to show compassion for myself for being human, to sometimes have to say sorry to others, and to then find the courage to try new behaviours and habits. I have come to see that this is not a destination where I will one day wake up and be ‘fixed’. There is no ‘perfect’ me, much as some youtube videos suggest or that my ego might like there to be! It is a journey…each year just trying to be a little better than I was last year. I hope that helps.

When i think on shadow work it usually takes me into a mode of identifying other peoples shadows. Its one of the main tools i use to judge and determine the intentions of people around me. It gives me a sixth sense about people and situations. Most people dont even realize their shadows exist and scream their intentions.

My mom is a big trigger. I would have really loved for my mom to be happy for me and support me after I shared last week that I had been on my healing journey for the past 6 months and felt the best i have in my 42 years. The first thing out of her mouth was 'well you should be healing from him' instead of something supportive. I told ive been working on self compassion, self love, self forgiveness, grace, etc and that I'm healing from my most two recent exes, my dad, her, everyone who hurt me and myself...and then she turned the conversation to be about her and eventually I remembered my boundaries and told her i jad to end the conversation and told her I love her but it will have to be from a distance and all she was talking about she needed to discuss with her therapist or someone else because I couldnt help her as she doesn't listen to me or take my advice. Always alot to unpack when it comes to her but im still continuing on my healing journey and am now working on self validation for myself.

That's an interesting point about insecurity, because we are acutely aware of our own insecurities that we think of it like something that is obvious to an outside observer. They sometimes can be if we have internalized those insecurities to the degree that they effect the way we live our lives or carry ourselves, but even then most people aren't paying attention and even the most outwardly confident people have insecurities like everyone else.

This is EXACTLY the conclusion I came to as well over the past few months. I just watched my entire friend group fall apart bc they all got triggered by someone else’s healing and they started blaming that their discomfort of the situation was someone else’s fault instead of looking at their own healing instead. Gosh you said it so well too that laughter is the key! My entire friend group Started taking everything way too seriously including me, because fear is exciting and confusing when you don’t have answers on how to heal yourself. It’s easy to point the finger and blame someone else. It’s too easy to over complicate life and take everything to seriously. I’ve finally learned how to see that my intentions were always the best that they could have been at any given time and it’s helped me not to shame myself for what I didn’t know in that moment. Your video gave 100% confirmation for me, thank you. 🙏

Started doing the jungian shadow work thing back in the seventies then every decade there would be some new slant on shadow work. Nowadays would have to say one cane overdo shadow work. Just go about your life set goals and any block/shadow aspect that may need working on becomes obvious. Then just do the bare minimum of shadow work to get going. Our real power is acting in the now. The awareness of the shadow aspect will dissolve it or integrate it in due time as its teaching value gets exhausted. Great talk you are so right no bad parts we are not broken. Mahalo Sheragal

I love this style! I’m not a formal person… I’m more playful, light hearted and rebel haha I love so much bringing up what we see as “bad things” underlying has a good intention. This has helped me heal my feelings with my mom and her decisions. What I also started to understand is yehhh pulling the mirror down when we are triggered is helpful but what I found is it’s not necessarily the “act” we relate to… it’s the underlying emotion their act causes within us that is being mirrored back. Ya know? Every “act” creates a different emotion in different people. 🤍🌟✨💫 shine on Clark! Love your material 🌞

Love this. I just want to mention something that I've learnt from an awesome KZbin channel called The Alchemist: The "triggers' we see in other people, doesn't necessarily mean that we're always seeing a projection of something about ourselves that we don't like. It can also be an indication of something that's missing. A trait that's been tucked away completely because we don't like the way it presents itself in the world. Think of Arrogance vs Confidence. You despise arrogance in others, so to compensate for this perceived "wrong" in the world, you shrink your own ego down to nothing. But, now you can't seem to get the respect or love you want, because you don't have any confidence. This makes you despise arrogance even more, but it's not because you yourself are arrogant, it's because you subconsciously wish you had more confidence. Shadow work can show us where the balance has been disturbed. The hard part is in correcting it without overcompensation.

My favourite part - that really grabbed me - was when you spoke about your perfectionist self stopping you from filming your video, and how you realised in that moment that it was stifling your creativity. I was glued to this part, to you talking about this realisation you had. You showed your vulnerability, and it was beautiful. I welcome more vulnerable, stream of consciousness type vids like this. As a fellow performer - podcaster, musician, etc - my advice (to let go of the perfectionist) is to focus on what makes you excited. My best episodes have been the ones where I’m too excited to worry about how I’m coming across, and to this day they’re my favourite ones. Recall your excitement for your content.🌷💫

Thank you for this video. I've always tried to be positive and good and then a entire string of events happened one after the other and this made me say no more I'm done. And then i realized something changed in me. Suddenly i spoke my mind, when i feel angry, then I'm angry if i feel like crying i cry and normally i would judge myself over things like this, but i didn't. Everytime i went through something i said to myself, it's absolutely ok. I found the emotions and thoughts didn't linger like always. I wondered what was happening and realized that i needed to love myself, all of me. All 360 degrees of me and yes people have little comments about the change in me, but i don't care. Because this me, all of me and i accept me and those who really love me will 2 and if they don't that's ok too.

This was really helpful for me. I've been avoiding shadow work because I kept thinking, if it's just me beating myself up, then I'm already stuck there. This clarified quite a bit about the process. I'm just a dude going through shit like everyone else.

This was really on point! Thanks for reminding of those positive intents behind fear like prorection ❤ the goal is to find pathway to that unhurt heart and wholeness with full colors, ability to laugh and enjoy life that waits us on the other side of darkness that is part of life 🙏 Acceptance of all parts in ourself to exist is big key to unlock shadow work gold. All emotions serve their purpose as messangers and should be allowed to deliver their message.

I used to be ashamed of crying, as my life has progressed I now cry way more than I an comfortable with, but I have realized that having my soul open to life means I am actually living life versus going through the motions. Can't have joy without knowing pain. It's a emotionally raw place to be but a so much fuller life to live than the semi stoic way I grew up.

I hardly ever comment on videos, but this one was excellent. It’s the information everyone starting the self healing journey may want to take to heart. It’s dead on.

If it hurts that much you're pushing too hard, give yourself some grace and let life flow around you. You are where you are supposed to be. Ceaseless work is not the answer!

We try so hard to do what others expect, we end up ignoring and hiding the best parts of ourselves. Thanks for sharing your journey.

It amazes me how many hoops people will jump through rather than talking and listening to God every day.. Like a relationship with a good friend, the most loving friend you could imagine

I've been going to therapy for some years. I liked the part where you said we should approach it with humor. Most therapists are way to serious and scary, making you feel as the bad guy, the broken sinking boat that he's riding in the session. I think that's the reason why most therapy sessions end up, not with wisdom, but with false positivism. Great videos. I love your "I'm not Jung, I'm a simple human with some research on this topic". I think that's what is wrong with the whole system: the world we created is changing so fast, yet we stay the same.

I found your channel and just watched a bunch of your shadow videos. I've been meaning to work on this for...years, but built it up in my head as some complex task I needed to prepare for. Your videos (the one 3 years ago, the one a year ago, and this one), have really got me to take a breath and feel confident just diving in. And the reminder to have fun was perfect. Thank you!

Holy shit! Thank you so much! I stumbled upon your videos today and this is the second one I watched. I honestly think this is what I have been missing to push past my ceiling. I've been in a big slump even though I'm trying so hard to manifest and be positive. The previous video is where you talked about the story with the thorn in the lady's side and just ignoring it. This shadow work stuff is intense and important. I find I ignore the darker sides of myself because I don't want to dwell on negativity when in fact healing myself and getting to the root of my beliefs is so important. Then I can take the tools I have learned and know and grow. Knowing I will find difficult things to overcome but being able to think about them in a way that doesn't put blame but just questions and learns and grows. Thank you. ❤

This is Truly one of the Best videos i have ever seen on any topic. It really makes the dark and scary serious easily approachable and surmountable by the average Joe. It was exactly what i've needed to hear for quite some time. The distinction between the self-Improvement and the self-Healing was something i've never come across before and probably the most important paradigm shift of my life. ThankYou Clark! Truly ThankYou!!

I can remember the moment two years ago when I was speaking to my friend and telling her if I continue down this path of shadow work, I’m going to change everything and it was true. I continued on that path and everything I thought I knew about myself was wrong. It has taken me two years just to bring some semblance of myself back together. Shadow work is no joke. I’m stronger now but I’m different. The bubbly pristine surface of my soul was irrevocably changed. It has been roughened with the shards of repressed memories I forced to the surface.

Thank you so much! I love this style! I subscribed immediately! I even took notes! I am so glad you said FEAR! No-one believes me when i tell them i live in a constant state of fear. Especially when to them my life is fine and perfect. They often ask "Why am i not doing more?, Why do i do this to myself?, Why cant i finish my goals and dreams?, Why cant I keep up with them?" The fear ebbs and flows and some days I cant even get out of bed. other days i make it to the couch but i cant leave the room. Then other days i finally conqueror it and go out into the world and accomplish my goals at least somewhat then something will trigger me and i have to start alll over again. I have been trying therapy but mental health therapies have gone insane. I cant thank you enough! but thank you. Take your time, don't worry about being perfect. ALOT of creators get caught up in making a vid everyday and every week, perfectly, no need. WE have vacations for a reason, days off for a reason. Please pace yourself you are needed here as well as in your own life.

Relatable thanks for sharing you aren't alone. This squiggly line stuff is really frustrating but when I do finally manage to show up even for a little while and I'm feeling good I really try to make the most of it till I get tired or get anxiety and have to bail and then recover for 4 weeks or however long haha but I still pat myself on the back for having the courage to get out. I've started Journaling my going out adventurers and it's been pretty amazing for insights and triggers and thinking about what I would do differently next time it happened. I guess what I really want is the ability to consistently show up without fear and anxiety or panic being a factor to think about or having elaborate backup plans so I can bail as soon as I feel it coming on and don't get trapped in a spiral. Maybe it's like exposure therapy and continuing the Journaling and the triggers and blocks but also the good things that happened and insights from all of the showing up in the world. And besides who doesn't love a gentle weirdo Journaling in the corner between moments haha 😅

Behind every negative action is a positive intent 🤯 💜. I need to find any of your videos that speaks to me not loving myself even though I want to. It displays itself in GAD and fear of public speaking. I can totally pinpoint where it comes from in childhood, but I can’t break the negative belief

Love this! So refreshing! Especially the “light sage” part about having a sense of humor. SO VERY TRUE! Really need to be able to step back and laugh cause it’s too much not to. This is honestly one of the most helpful videos (and I’ve binged countless channels/videos) on this stuff. Thank you!!!
