Craig, if you read this, thank you for all this "behind the scenes" information and stories. I absolutely love them all and how you invite "original owners" as well. Brilliant! Yeah the movie had its flaws, but it was great fun nonetheless and indeed it got a lot of young people "in to cars". I also absolutely believe that this movie made the Whole need for speed underground 1 & 2 games explode to succes.

I was a General Manager at a Theater when the 1st and 2nd movie came out. No one had any idea what this movie was. I've been in the car scene my whole life and was very excited to see the 1st, I saw it more then 10 times in the theater and still have a 1st gen of the movie poster. They kept getting stolen so we put them up high inside. My poster is a early print, it says "this film is not yet rated". I live very close to all the place you mentioned, once the movie came out the scene really took off in a new exciting direction. Thanks for all the memories.

back in the 1980's when no one really knew what collectables were, I asked a peer what he had done that afternoon, and he told me he had thrown out Star Trek posters at the theatre he worked at, since the date had been postponed. I asked him to go back and get those--I still have my three and I don't know what he did with his. It may make up for all the POP/POS objects I used to get from the local package store in the 1970's that my mom threw out thinking it was all junk taking up space :)

Even as a 21 year old (Fun fact: this film came out the day after my Birthday) and being in college - I would hear some of the lines in the film and cringe thinking to myself "how do you get that wrong?" However - that didn't stop me from seeing the film 3 times on opening day and a total of 13 times while it was in the theaters. I remember the December of 2000, seeing a trailer for the film and that it was supposed to be out in March - which was the same week I was on spring break. BAck then, the internet wasn't as full of useful info as it is now - so I had no clue the film was pushed to June. So I went to the Movie theater that week in March and didn't see Fast and Furious on the list - and this was a big theater. So I asked an employee who told me that the film wasn't released yet. I then went back to my dorm and tried finding any info at all on what was going on and of course I found NOTHING. And for months I sat in a black hole waiting for a new trailer or something with a new date. ANd finally - I remember going to another Universal movie in the Spring and saw the new trailer and it said June 22! ANyways, all those memories are what makes this film still mean so much to me. Thanks Craig for the vids, man!

For some reason the same 420a that came in the '95-99 Dodge Neon (D4RE) with the flipped head was rated for 150hp (151hp on some sources) instead of the 140hp rating given to the Eclipse. I wonder why? better intake manifold on the Neon maybe? Either way a stripped and gutted Neon DOHC can weigh less than 2200lbs and with a throttle body from an auto car and a Mopar ECU, they can be surprisingly quick.

Another comment. I have built my 96 civic to be similar to these movie cars. Ive owned it since 2005 and ive fiberglassed alot of the interior thats painted the same color as the outside with stereo components everywhere. Made my own thick lip kit and skirts bc i didnt care much for body kits and have just put tons of cosmetics and audio in. 5 screens with xbox, 15in woofer, tons and tons of lights and effects and that period engine bay components like the colored looms and hoses, chrome everwhere and even a fake N.O.S kit. Really inspired me when i was young. Im proud to still own it and to be able to drive it to shows and still win trophies! People love it and it gives them a flashback to back in the day. Even get comments like wow this car looks straight out of F&F lol i wish! Once again thanks for the movies and the time you put into these episodes. Super awesome and nostalgic.

I haven't watched the original since it came out and you saying the words "Motec System Exhaust" made me realize how ridiculous that sounds being into drag racing and building cars and knowing what products Motec actually make. It's akin to having a "Lucas Oil Turbo Manifold." lmao I love your videos and the interviews that you have been filming.

Man, incredible. As soon as I saw that first shot with the green Eclipse, This immigrant kid from Peru who had barely just arrived in the US knew he had to build his own version of it. Years later it ended in the movie Sex Drive. Wish I had all this info back then! Thank you Craig, John and the crew for introducing us to the magnificent world of tuning and racing. Keep on rocking these vids. They are awesome.

I lusted over this car so much as a teenager. I got a hold of a 92 eclipse GS and tried to build it out but being 16-17 with no job and barely any money that didn’t get too far. Had some cheap fiberglass body kit, some god awful tail lights (hindsight being what it is) however I did do some cool interior mods. Was a fun project but had to move on and it sat for years until I finally sold it off for scrap. Was too bad but I learned a lot. Maybe one day I’ll get another one.

I saw one of the stunt Eclipse’s (along with a few others) in a museum called ‘Cars of the Stars’ in Keswick, UK. Sadly it’s closed now and the huge collection of various film / tv cars sold and shipped to America. It was a great lesson in ‘Don’t meet your heroes’. The car was honestly awful in person (being a stunt car). Body kit was just riveted on, not lowered, chipped paint etc.

Kinda just an overall question. How come the NSX didn’t feature more prominently in these films. Arguably the NSX was at least top 3 in perking order of Japanese supercars. Thanks

I agree with the first comment, money was tight when they were making the first movies. Even if they did find someone crazy enough to let them use their personal NSX for the movie, building hero and stunt replicas would take a huge chunk out of the film's car budget.

I'd say there's way to many hondas overall, but it all fits perfectly. The black hijack civics looked menacing and dangerous, and Johnny Trans S2000 and Hectors fit their character perfectly as well. Yea they should of used something better than the Integra and Civic for first face like the NSX or a Nissan. Honestly since the cars are so dolled up with their graphics kits and neon underglow it doesn't matter as much as a plain car too lol.
