@Disco Sucks I can't really say, man. I'm sure a lot of these events are just "ignorant" people trying to explain what they don't know, and they end up misunderstood and ufologists and other people try to make a name out of their stories. But I'm sure a lot of what happened is real too. Can't say why it's a rich environment for "sinister" ocurrances tho.

Not necessarily. It depends on the type of radiation which was used. If the radiation was particulate (alpha and beta particles) then there could be measurable residual radioactivity afterwards (dependent upon the quantity of radioactive material utilized, the half life of the material, and the amount of time between the event and the measurement.) However, if it was gamma radiation, or any other form of light, there would be no residual radioactivity afterwards.

BOITATÁ: According to the legend, there was once a long period of darkness when the sun did not shine and a deluge myth flooded the earth. These conditions killed many animals and forced the beasts to flee their natural habitat. Among the displaced survivors was the boiguaçu, a giant cave anaconda. Emerging from its lair, the boiguaçu began to eat the eyes of the dead, which shone brightly in the darkness and made for tasty delicacies. As the snake ate more and more of these delicious, shiny eyes, its body began to shine, too, but the eyes-only diet steadily weakened it, and it perished… in a blaze of glory. For, upon its death, all the light collected inside it escaped to the sun, and the dark days were finally over. There must have been some magic in all those eyeballs, because the boitatá lived on in spirit. It inhabits the Amazon jungles to this day, often appearing at night as nothing but two glowing, fiery eyes. Some say it can breathe fire as well, an ability it uses to incinerate people who harm the rainforest by chopping trees down or starting fires. Others say it can actually disguise itself as a tree trunk, then roast alive any lumberjack who comes to cut it down. Oh, and it can also blind you and make you insane if you gaze into its eyes. There are other versions of the legend that describe the boitatá as a giant, fiery bull who hunts the hunters, and yet others that associate it with almas penadas - souls that are cursed for various reasons, from immorality to dealing dishonestly with the devil. Many descriptions of the boitatá legend connect it with ignis fatuus, or that fiery phenomenon known as the will-o’-the-wisp. There is some overlap between the legends of the boitatá and the boiúna, an evil black snake that is said to take a variety of forms, attack and devour people, and use its flaming eyes to lead boats to their ruin.

Exactly, and since the events occured in 1946, it would explain why the villagers, nurses and doctors were baffled. @Grim Reaper That's the core of the mystery. It culd be a military experiment gone wrong, an unknown natural phenomenon which could've caused a sudden outburst of radiation in a specific area, or indeed, it may have an extraterrestrial origin (an attack, a malfunction with a craft, a probe, or some other device, an experiment, a mistake...)

It's very similar to an accute radiation poisoning syndrome. The events occured in 1946, so this was a fairly new thing for medicine back then and even more for the public. It wouldn't be surprising that these doctors, in a rural area of Brazil, weren't able to identify a case of accute radiation poisoning. This would also explain why his clothes remained intacts, while his skin wasn't. The same thing happened to firefighters in Chernobyl, in 1986, the nurses threw away the firefighter's clothes and they remained intact for a very long time, even though they were highly radioactive.

Good point but two things are diffetent. The first was that what happened to Joao seems to be extremely accelerated as his death took only a few hours while Ouchi took nearly a year (keep in mind that his doctors had to prolong his suffering to see the effects of radiation). The second of which is Ouchi's hair did fall off (though I don't know if this was because it would not have fallen off naturally or the doctors shaved it off). I refuse to watch shows like tosh.o where he's not only making money off of those suffering in the clips but also making fun of them. I laugh when someone falls down but is OK but clips where someone gets seriously hurt isn't funny to me at all. My empathy won't let me watch it cause I hurt too much inside for them. So much desensitization these days I worry for the youth

I think I have to agree with the comment section's consensus that he died from VERY severe radiation exposure... But what caused it? The time period could make one theorize that some sort of nuclear testing occured. But that doesn't seem likely with such damage coming to him only. The incident is chilling, and lends itself to many ideas of the exact means of how he was attacked. In that same breath though, any grounded explanation is hard to believe, or has no supporting evidence. But let's not forget that this was an actual man who had died, and left a grieving family in his wake. It's very tragic, and unfortunately, they would have heard many discussions for the rest of their lives about the strange circumstances surrounding him; as does anyone who dies in a mysterious or unexplained manner. Great video. I'm glad to have found a channel that talks about all manners of the paranormal. I'm a sucker for UFO/alien stories and events, and this channel keeps that interest fed well. The "Kentucky Goblin" series was very eerie and entertaining, and also informative. Any video published has a good mix of grounded debunking theories, as well as the fantastical ones. Uploads will always be a highlight of my evenings; continue the great work guys.

Microwave based weaponry could also be a possibility, since his hair did not fall away, but soft tissue did, he could have been hit with a highly focused beam of microwaves, exciting the water in his body's blood and soft tissues, flash cooking them, causing proteins that help hold the body together to denature and fall apart. Since hair does not really have water in it, microwave puls or beam would not cause any noticeable damage, unless you looked very closely.
