Agreed, the R5 is a fantastic camera. Crazy to hear about people canceling their pre-orders because they let themselves be influenced by a few KZbinrs who think the R5 is a cinecam (or really expensive blogging camera). But for the intended audience -- photographers and hybrid shooters -- there's very little to find fault with and it's great to see Canon back in the game. The lens options are second to none -- with the new RF glass or well-adapted EF, and for those who do shoot occasional video (b roll, not small films), it's often overlooked that the R5 is one of the few cameras to offer internal raw recording, which is great for grading.

From a purely technical spec range, I think the Sony can push 15 stops and Canon is more like 14. Really, anything over 13 is going to get it done for almost all shooting in a practical sense. Canon was around 12 before the 80D, which was 13, and after the 90D/M6mkII they look to be more like 14. So I think from a purely technical spec, it's still Sony, but from a practical sense, it likely no longer matters.

R5 looks fantastic as a photography-only camera. It was rumored that Sony purposely delayed releases (the A7Siii for almost 2 years?) so they'll probably unload some new upgrades on their next rendition. Regardless, it's always a win for consumers when the brands race to outdo the competition.

The AF system is the majority of the reason I want the R5 and R6. I use cameras like this for portraits and events. Currently on the 5DmkIV. Have to do a lot of focus and recompose, even on the outermost parts of the AF grid. The movement of the camera, yourself, and your subject, can all mean the difference between getting a nailed focus at a thin DOF or a slight miss. With this, it's just compose and shoot. That freedom is uncanny, and something future gens of shooters will never even know about, lol. I can't wait to get mine, but like so many others I am stuck on the list...

What does "switch" mean? You stop shooting one brand entirely for another. Why would anyone who has multiple systems do that? For sponsor money. Otherwise they would use the systems they have. I use the SOny in studio or for large file reason. Big budget studio I use the Phaseone(collecting dust). But for field work events, I keep that as my 3rd camera as the Canons I use are MUCH better in the field. And for video, video shooters will have their preference. While companies try, its not often they create a "Jack of all" tool. Now the pro is expected often to be the Jack of all, using specific tools. Hence the "content creator" being video and stills, and story writing in some instances, etc, etc. Have always enjoyed Manny's videos, and tips, and look forward to more.

How about the no focus ring on some lenses, or other manual overrides? That is huge. But...I too think the R5 was overpriced. They should have given the 8K video power to the R6, raised that price and lowered the R5 and they would have sold more of each. One of my biggest grips on Sony is the lens release button as it is so close to where my fingers rest, I have to be aware not to press it. The R6 is thought to use the same sensor as the 1DX III, which is Canon's flagship DSLR. Results from the R6 (even the colors) look _extremely_ similar to the 1DXIII, so I do believe they are sharing the same sensor. Since there aren't many R6 reviews up yet, I'd recommend watching some 1DXIII reviews and seeing if the dynamic range is to your liking, because that information will almost certainly be extensible to the R6 as well.

I just really wish they had a real touch screen, where you can touch to click, to focus/click, which I think the Canon has. Thanks Manny. BTW - your model (your wife, I think) is beautiful, and your photo sessions with her I have wanted to try with my fiancé too! Really enjoy your stuff Manny, hopefully will meet one day, when people are getting back to normal. Take care and stay safe!!! Scott A. Berger, M.D. aka “Paindoctor” thanks Manny,
