What an excellent session! Rev. George is a man of such integrity whom I most admire when watching 'Anglican Unscripted'...and then there is Gavin..well, what can I say, except, keep it up! Gordon Carter. Adelaide. South Australia.

As I recall, Bishop Burnham laid his Crozier at the Lady altar or shrine at the back of the church following his last service before he resigned his See and left the Church of England.

Thank you both for this wonderful, insightful, exchange. I love the "whiff of sulphur" image, surrounding Welby. As you note, the Church of England has been 'Welby-ised'; to the extent that all of its bishops are "in his image". Personally, I think the Church Universal needs good, apologist, scholars in every one of its denominations: but a Welby-ised C of E is not going to produce one. Perhaps someone could - genuinely - be "called" from Acadaemia to sit in Augustine's Chair.

Of the 3 serious contenders, I would prefer Usher....but in an ideal world we would appoint Philip North, the Bishop of Blackburn, a young, energetic traditional catholic, who is widely respected, and is one of the few bishops with significant parish experience, and who understands the laity, and the working class.

This a good explanation. However, others should also resign. Especially the Arch Bishop of York Cottrell who covered up the shocking case of Tudor’ s abuse of young girls. The Senior clergy pass the blame one to another. It has to stop. Please address this issue.

Gavin and George are knowledgeable theologians, educated faithfilled Christians and well respected men. They say things as they see them. They are not blackening anyone‘s reputation. Any blackening has been achieved by the self interested ambitious people themselves. Both care about the Church of England and Anglicanism, despite Gavin seeing .the light' and becoming a Roman Catholic. Gavin respects the Pope but doesn‘t HAVE to like what he is doing.

Okay, things aren't perfect on our side, but when I look at the Church of England, I can't help but feel my gratitude for being Catholic renewed. Why anyone would want to remain Anglican is utterly beyond me..

Because the CofE is only a small part of Anglicanism. Many of us are doing quite well, love Jesus and his Church (including our Roman, Eastern, and Protestant brothers and sisters) and are looking for God's kingdom.

@@OUTBOUND184 That "most disastrous monarch" as you put it, Henry VIII, was Catholic till the day he died. The innovative Church of Rome, too much influenced by Augustine of Hippo, gave birth to the Protestant Reformation and was the cause of the Great Schism. If you want full communion with the Church you need to look East.

1) Surely the CHARISMATIC and the EVANGELICAL approaches can’t really be combined and equated … does the traditional EVANGELICAL approach as understood in the 19th and earlier 20th centuries wouldn’t’ have countenanced “speaking in tongues” etc and would have left that sort of thing to the Irvingites? And surely CHARISMA has an older technical meaning which is neglected by - even ignored - by modern speakers? Are you really suggesting that Welby exhibited glossolalia? Surely technical accuracy is important here? 2) As regards the CofE, surely its domination by the secular state was obvious as soon as the crucifix was replaced by the royal arms? Doesn’t ifs present wokeness merely reflect the policies of the present government, and the weird interests of King Charles. 3) And as an afterthought, they want new blood AND a woman for the ABC post … well, TulIp Siddiq is looking for a job and has connections …

The Anglican problem is that it has no Magisterium, or Orders that can do theology i.e Dominicans. Sola scriptura is not enough. Consequently it is vinerable before secularism and its shifting mores. Secondly, it has been in the grip of Liberal theolgians since William Temple, who are basically ethicists only. Thirdly, since Henry VIII removed the CofE from the universal Church, it has been dependent on the political class, who now are secularist and have withdrawn that prop. Consequently it just another 'faith community'

Oh dear - another protestant who believes the lies of the heretics. By 'Mary' I ASSUME you refer to the All Holy and Most Pure Mother of God. NO Orthodox or Roman Catholic has EVER 'worshipped' the Theotokos, that's something believed by children and atheists with no knowledge of the Faith. You only show your ignorance 'graham'. You get muddled by confusing love and veneration on the one hand with 'worship' on the other. How sad. Read some books. 'It is truly meet to bless you, O Theotokos, ever-blessed and most pure, and the Mother of our God. More honorable than the Cherubim, and more glorious beyond compare than the Seraphim, without defilement you gave birth to God the Word. True Theotokos we magnify you!'
