The Vancouver Canucks defeat the Edmonton Oilers in game 5 3-2, JT Miller with a CLUTCH goal, Elias Pettersson looked good, Connor Mc David was pissed, and now the Canucks have a chance to earn their spot at the conference finals needing just 1 more win! Let me know your thoughts on the game!

The only people not surprised are the Canucks and their fans. We all know they are better than ANYONE outside of the team and its fanbase gave them credit for. Theyve been written off ALL year, countless times and for countless reasons. This team has gut, determination and will, size and strength combined with some skill and and the absolute desire to win, mixed in with a TON of character top to bottom. Pack that up with incredible coaching and leadership and this team that literally EVERY analyst called a wildcard team at best is ONE win from the conference finals. The reffing has been brutal on both sides, and the Canucks have blatantly gotten the worst of it overall, but still, here we sit up 3-2 wit our destiny in our hands. GO CANUCKS GO!

Wellll...let's not give fans too much credit here. Canucks fans have been somewhat bipolar in reaction to every game, and when Artūrs Šilovs first stepped-in the sky had already fallen. He quickly made the players around him believe and the fans eventually followed; but no matter what happens next, they've already overachieved.It's entertainment every night.

I think all of the games have been great. I thought game #4 was significant in that I didn't think the Canucks played their A game, yet tied it (2 goals down). I thought, imagine how it might have gone if they really applied themselves. Meanwhile, the Oilers had to play their best to avoid going down 3-1 in the series. Also, Rick Tocchet knew the Canucks stunk in game #4, and made changes for tonight's contest.🤔☺️

In NHL rules, "charging" is a penalty assessed to a player who takes multiple strides or travels an excessive distance to deliver a body check to an opponent. This rule is designed to prevent reckless and dangerous hits that could lead to injury. Charging can be called when a player takes a run at an opponent or accelerates into a hit with unnecessary force, rather than making a check with a reasonable amount of momentum from normal skating. Specifically, the NHL Rulebook defines charging under Rule 42.1 as follows: "Charging shall mean the actions of a player who, as a result of distance traveled, shall violently check an opponent in any manner. A 'charge' may be the result of a check into the boards, into the goal frame or in open ice."

3:24 To answer your question, Petersson clearly leaves his feet. The Canucks radio broadcast had the same question you did and when they saw the replay and confirmed it was a good call. They read out the rulebook and it mentions jumping.
@finneganfly
@finneganfly 14 күн бұрын
Boy there are interpretations from both sides. My understanding is that you can’t jump ‘into’ a player while initiating a hit. Petterson didn’t initiate the hit, Foegele did. It didn’t seem as if Petterson jumped into him. If you’re an Edmonton fan, I’m wrong of course.

@deanerHD frustrating, but part of the "charging" call specifically refers to the player leaving their feet. Even though he comes into Petey, that little hop is what they were calling it for.

I might be saying this prematurely, but I think Peterson is going to be a Demon in game 6. I think he’s got his groove back. And now that people doubt his abilities I think he’s gonna have more space to snipe shots.

That just put the nail in the ref's bias in this series. The coilers get away with too many holding and interference. The Canucks get called on even the slightest hint of those.

Charging - A minor or major penalty shall be imposed on a player who skates, **jumps into** or charges an opponent in any manner. Charging shall mean the actions of a player who, as a result of distance travelled, shall violently check an opponent in any manner. A “charge” may be the result of a check into the boards, into the goal frame or in open ice. I don't really agree with the violently part on the hit there but 100% he jumped into it I'm guessing the ref just gave it an automatic call because of the jump. I don't hate it plus the boys won anyway so.

Petey getting charging for standing still had me fucking FUMING. At least call it right. Roughing. Elbowing. At least give me a chance to accept it. You cannot charge someone if you are standing still. Full stop. He anticipated the hit too soon and popped an early reverse hit. 2 minutes for protecting yourself from a check as far as i can tell. Did the elbow even get in? I dont know. But stupid call.

So the charge penalty in Pederson is because he left his feet for the contact. That is considered charging even if he isn’t in a skating motion. 3:43

Considering how much edmonton talked shit about ian cole scoring goals for them, its kind of funny to realize how much they needed those goals to still be in this series lmao Canucks looked like the better team coming in, and had more players that wanted it. Also the charging penalty, while i dont really like the call petterson jumped with both feet to prior to the hit. "Rule 42 - Charging 42.1 Charging - A minor or major penalty shall be imposed on a player who skates or jumps into, or charges an opponent in any manner."

@@michaelyano6094 It was a reverse hit. He jumped up to get the better of the hit. Had he stood his ground and reversed hit he would have been flatlined. He jumped up to get center of gravity on his side. It is a cheap move, really, but so is hitting a guy's back and imo shouldnt be a penalty. I dont make the rules though.
