RIck should do a video on "What Makes a Music Store Great". Seriously, I've been in hundreds of music instrument stores and some of them have been absolutely fantastic and others complete dogs. I would love to see a great video on the breakdown of what the big differences are.

Nice! It's funny to watch when two people who professionally interview people all the time sit together and interview one another, how the sense of timing is perfect. Like Captain asks something and sits quiet listening to as long as the talk comes, and Rick just stops right away when he comes to the end of his point and he's so coherent with his story telling, and Captain immediately catches the ball and throws it back. It's so smooth sailing.

When Rick interviews geniuses like Pat Metheny I can see how blown away they are with the depth of understanding Rick has of their music. Most interviewers only ask journalistic questions like "who were your influences" or "how do you learn guitar"? But Rick will want to discuss an interesting chord substitution or unusual phrase on some deep cut from an album recorded by the artist 20 years ago. Watch Metheny's face light up, his body language relax, and his attention focus fully on the discussion. Same thing with Sting. These genius musicians recognize a kindred soul and someone who truly appreciates and understands their work. Hard to beat that. ✌❤

But what he covers from my youth through my married years is priceless. I think I can safely say as long as we have Rick Music everything is in good hands. Thanks to Andertons for this interview. Rick brings the Synergy and the more.

I don't think people give Lee enough credit for just how good he is as an interviewer. I doesn't matter who he interviews (KZbinrs, grunge metal players, people using modelling gear, his Dad ...), you always get a really good look at who they are and what motivates them. I don't say this as a casual observer. I also interview people, run seminars, train people etc as part of my job and considering Lee is probably(?) untrained in that area, he's a natural.

His son Dylan is what drew me to Rick in the first place. I was talking with my friends and one of my buddies said the strangest thing. He said that all American car horns were the note F sharp. He had heard someone else say that and I started thinking about other common sounds we have that are so well known that everyone knows it. So I searched "how to identify pitch by ear" and it took me to Rick's channel with his son and when I was finished watching, I was speechless. It was one of the most incredible talents I have ever seen. Like watching Bach or Beethoven or Mozart as a child. A prodigy by definition. So I subbed and craved more of them. And then the rest was history

Here is what I love about Rick and his videos… As someone who has always loved and been passionate about music, but has little/no technical skill or training, I can watch his videos and feel included in the conversation even though at times he is speaking a “language” I don’t even understand. It’s almost like learning a foreign language (i.e. music theory) by immersion.

Excellent observation regarding learning music should be seen as learning a new language. Alphabet Letters are the notes, words and phrases are motifs, sentences are musical phrases, paragraphs are themes, compositions are songs or tunes.

Also, my brothers play on the record player hollies , hendrix, bb king, and all the mid to late 60's prog rock. So I started banging away on all percussion instruments from snare to bongos. This was brilliant! At around the 52:00 this was an excellent point about amp vs plugins. I had this conversation just the other day. I own a real Mesa, and I will never get rid of it as long as plugins cannot generate the same feel as an amp can. I get it - in a mix there isn't much of a difference anymore, but I get more inspiration and excitement from playing thru an amp than I do from a plugin.
@florian-anwander
@florian-anwander Жыл бұрын
Confirmed (though I am mostly on keyboards and only playing guitar some times). About the topic of getting acoustic feedback from a plugin via the studio monitors which he mentions there: that won't work because the plugin has some latency. So the feedback will be the same as if you'd try to get feedback when using a delay pedal which does not provide the original signal.
