RIck should do a video on "What Makes a Music Store Great". Seriously, I've been in hundreds of music instrument stores and some of them have been absolutely fantastic and others complete dogs. I would love to see a great video on the breakdown of what the big differences are.

Nice! It's funny to watch when two people who professionally interview people all the time sit together and interview one another, how the sense of timing is perfect. Like Captain asks something and sits quiet listening to as long as the talk comes, and Rick just stops right away when he comes to the end of his point and he's so coherent with his story telling, and Captain immediately catches the ball and throws it back. It's so smooth sailing.

When Rick interviews geniuses like Pat Metheny I can see how blown away they are with the depth of understanding Rick has of their music. Most interviewers only ask journalistic questions like "who were your influences" or "how do you learn guitar"? But Rick will want to discuss an interesting chord substitution or unusual phrase on some deep cut from an album recorded by the artist 20 years ago. Watch Metheny's face light up, his body language relax, and his attention focus fully on the discussion. Same thing with Sting. These genius musicians recognize a kindred soul and someone who truly appreciates and understands their work. Hard to beat that. ✌❤

My kids aren't as excited about music because they consume it totally differently. For us getting an album you wanted when you were young (often for a birthday or christmas) was super exciting, so was leaving school, getting your first job and getting your pay packet on a friday and going record shopping on a saturday. So was going to a friends house to get a tape of an album they had..... My kids can hear anything they want any time they want, so it just seems to mean a lot less for that reason.

Related: we didn't have nearly as many options to entertain ourselves, so much of our time was spent listening to music by default. In the 80's, we had this explosion of options with cable TV, VCRs, and home video game systems. But we didn't have 1% of the options we have now. Your records and cassettes were always available (thanks, Sony walkman) and reliably entertaining.

I agree, replacing a 2008 OEM car stereo with a new Sony unit, I wanted the same functions (AM/FM/CD/Bluetooth) and the CD player units are being replaced by multimedia (Bluetooth or USB connected internet download music). The truck now has a much better sound system, and in the rural west of North America, sometimes radio reception is unavailable, and a CD is always good.

I don't think people give Lee enough credit for just how good he is as an interviewer. I doesn't matter who he interviews (KZbinrs, grunge metal players, people using modelling gear, his Dad ...), you always get a really good look at who they are and what motivates them. I don't say this as a casual observer. I also interview people, run seminars, train people etc as part of my job and considering Lee is probably(?) untrained in that area, he's a natural.

His son Dylan is what drew me to Rick in the first place. I was talking with my friends and one of my buddies said the strangest thing. He said that all American car horns were the note F sharp. He had heard someone else say that and I started thinking about other common sounds we have that are so well known that everyone knows it. So I searched "how to identify pitch by ear" and it took me to Rick's channel with his son and when I was finished watching, I was speechless. It was one of the most incredible talents I have ever seen. Like watching Bach or Beethoven or Mozart as a child. A prodigy by definition. So I subbed and craved more of them. And then the rest was history

This was brilliant! At around the 52:00 this was an excellent point about amp vs plugins. I had this conversation just the other day. I own a real Mesa, and I will never get rid of it as long as plugins cannot generate the same feel as an amp can. I get it - in a mix there isn't much of a difference anymore, but I get more inspiration and excitement from playing thru an amp than I do from a plugin.
@florian-anwander
@florian-anwander Жыл бұрын
Confirmed (though I am mostly on keyboards and only playing guitar some times). About the topic of getting acoustic feedback from a plugin via the studio monitors which he mentions there: that won't work because the plugin has some latency. So the feedback will be the same as if you'd try to get feedback when using a delay pedal which does not provide the original signal.

I like Mr Beato's channel, he's very natural and doesn't try too hard to people please. Great knowledge of music and bands and presents his topics really well.

This is amazing, but my life won't be complete until I see a Pat Finnerty and Rick Beato cross over.

Rick you must be talking about the Blippi excavator song. It's my 2 yr old Lincoln (Kiko) favorite song. He loves tractors I can't belive that's how you discovered Dylans amazing ear. Too cool

Please tell me that this meeting didn’t occur on the 30th March… I called into Andertons for browse around whilst passing through Guildford on my way home to North Wales. Long time subscriber to both channels.

I've said it before, Lee is an excellent interviewer! So is Rick, and I followed his channel for a while as well. This feels so real, just two people truly loving what they do, and truly interested in the conversation they're having. None of them are trying to show off. Cheers, guys!

A really interesting chat. Rick Beato is a fantastic music educator and his Sting interview was exceptional, as was his breakdown of Larry Carlton’s Kid Charlemagne solo. Great to see him on the Anderton’s channel! Lee is a great interviewer - the Yolanda Charles video springs to mind for its brilliance - more of this kind of content please!

Wow, I am the seventh child of eight. And in the 60's just like Ricardo my three sisters had the Beatles on daily. Also, my brothers play on the record player hollies , hendrix, bb king, and all the mid to late 60's prog rock. So I started banging away on all percussion instruments from snare to bongos. At 16 picked up the guitar. Now at 63 I'm still playing. Thank you chuy (Jesus) for the blessing. God bless one and all.

There is no joy in playing the guitar with a bad sound and the opposite is very true when you are getting great tones, it can be mesmerizing and almost hypnotic.
