@PumaPete just imagine. You could completely restore your current truck. Drop a new engine in it, redo the interior, and still have money in your wallet vs buying new. Then after 5-10+ years sell it for a decent price. Today's engineering is not what it used to be. Years down the road the global market will not be anywhere close to affordable. I could buy a 2018ish Landcruiser and pimp it out. Work on it. Restore it. Then in 15-20 years it would be worth... a lot of money 💰

Actually, they are paying attention to the working man. It is the working man that uses a high dollar truck as some sort of status symbol. I see it with my employees and contractors and every house on my street (husbands typically drive one diesel trucks and the wives drive 90K+ full size SUVs), it's like a wiener measuring contest that they are willing to pay anything for just to try and win.

I'm an old man, so I can recall that the world's most expensive production car in 1962 was the Rolls Royce Silver Cloud at just under $18,000, at a time when a Chevy Impala sold for $2,800. Now we have Jeeps... JEEPS!... selling for the price of 7 Rolls Royce Silver Clouds!! It boggles my old brain.
@jrobmccoy
@jrobmccoy 3 ай бұрын
To be fair, $18k in 62’ is just shy of $190k today still cheap for that class of car through. Although $2800 for that Impala would be a reasonable $30k today! These companies love to claim “INFLATION! INFLATION!” But are selling 2x~4x the current inflation rate. Greed, plain and simple.

@kclefthanded427 50 years ago the USA had the big 4. AMC didn't build what the consumer wanted or needed. I'm seeing the same trend in what's left of the big three. The big three are disconnected to a point they in the same track as AMC . Mopar bought jeep and that's all that left is jeep. The big three need to build value. Cars that are affordable to buy easy to repair because they can buy software or books on diagnostics. Standardize the systems and make them reliable. Along with the aftermarket support of late model and older parts availability and or upgrades to update / upgrade systems . These policies will have the domestic automotive manufacturers the traction they lost.

In 1969, my dad bought a brand new Impala for $4400. It wasn't even top of the line luxury either. But young people today, along with older people like myself on a fixed income, can't afford any of these new car prices. And you can't even buy a new small single cab truck like the early Ford Ranger...anywhere. What I'm saying is, there is a whole segment of the population out here whose car needs aren't even being addressed by American manufacturers. I'm not sorry they are losing money. 4400$ is equivalent to 37000$ in today's money. But progress in technology has made car manufacturing much cheaper than before. But salaries never went up according to the price hikes in real estate and cars. In the 70s, you could buy an apartment for around $750 in Sweden. A VW Golf was around $1500 that time. But now, young people can't move out from the parents house because everything is too expensive. A small apartment is around $100000! Cars have become much more expensive now. A Volvo XC90. When it was released in 2002, it was around $ 35,000. But now the price starts at around 95K.

The sales guy was looking at me and i was just shaking my head laughing. Now i could buy it but WHY would i spend that much for a F150 with some customization on it? These prices are NUTS!! I'm looking to purchase a car for my daughter when she graduates HS this year. I haven't done any research atm but I'm hard edged at 6k. 3k is her savings and I matched. I get nervous that I'm not going to find anything sold for 6k... smh. the automobile industry is bananas.

That was me last year Have to add insurance too. My oldest has a $5500 car and insurance is $140 a month for just liability. Have 2 more teens that need cars next year. Been watching for a while and will buy when I find something worth buying.

At 16 yrs old i worked at a dealer. I had to drag a mile of hose around the lot and wash every vehicle. They fact every car on the lot is filthy means they are working with a skeleton crew.

LOL. That grand wagoneer cost almost as much AS MY HOUSE. And it was built, brand new ... no previous owners. Granted that was 10 years ago or so. But still ... that's insane. What .... are they going to start financing cars with 30 year loans?? How else could you afford that?

$80,000 they might as well make it out of gold plate, there is no way I can afford that. Then is insurance , tax , maintenance . I am feeling sick.

I think there would be a huge market for cars and trucks that are just real basic, value priced and quality. They wouldn’t need all the whiz bang crap that hardly works anyway. I don’t know what for sure I think of Chinese autos being sold here, but maybe they’d force our auto makers to adjust their products to fit the market. Who buys these vehicles $50K plus? Thousand dollar a month payment, that’s crazy.

Chinese automakers I believe are here to stay and dominate the legacy automotive market share. They paid Porsche designers to design the vehicles hence why the cars look similar to Porsches but fitted out with the latest technology,better quality batteries,longer range for a fraction of the price. They also know to keep their place in the market the cars would have to be built to last but the byd shark parts are interchangeable with raptors and rangers.

Here's the big problem: When you add together designing, testing, retooling factories, and the myriad of other functions required for a new/redesigned model, it doesn't cost much more to manufacture a large vehicle than an econo. The difference in cost of the actual steel and other materials involved is almost inconsequential. BUT the auto manufacturers can sell the larger/more luxury models for a much greater margin. A dealer would probably have to sell at least three Ford Focus to make the same profit as one Ford F-150.

Here in Redding, CA the only ford dealer added like 40-50 thousand dollars to their trucks price 5-6 years ago. No one bought any of their trucks, I watched the same trucks year after year on the dealers lot. The other day i saws that the 2023-2024 trucks prices were far less but still unreasonably priced. No one buys all electrict cars here.
