A guy in our town bought one of these. I remember seeing him drive it around town while running errands, just like your documentary said. It didn't seem like much at the time, but in light of the cost of a new Tesla, the Citicar seems like a real bargain now. Great documentary format, keep up the good work!

That’s AWSOME you got to see one in real life, your sure right about it being like a small Tesla at the time. Thank you😁

I grew up in rural Oregon in the 70s and 80s, there were two of these - one red, the other yellow - in my smallish mill town, owned by the same family. As a kid who was always fascinated with all things internal combustion I couldn't really grasp the concept at the time, but they added to the general futuristic - but also very... analog? - vibe of the era for sure. Like watching DEVO on broadcast tv, on a CRT. That's also hooked up to my C64 and occasionally a rented VHS player. Good times.

Great video, Toshi! I had never heard of this car before, looks cool. Like a 70s version of the BMW Isetta...

I had one, a 1976, in red. 48V, side curtains. Was not the "Deluxe" model that could have come with an opening rear hatch or propane heater. (both added-cost options) Drum brakes all around (press and pray) And 12 inch wheels & tires usually found on boat trailers. Bob Beaumont was the Chrysler/Plymouth dealer in my home town, and as a kid I remember seeing the orange prototype scooting around in traffic. Solenoid controller delivered a loud "thwack" sound with each speed change. Simple flip switch gave same top speed in reverse. Wonderfully Dreadful little car.
