When I look for a car and say I have 6 grand to spend. I look for cars around 4.5 to 5 grand. That way I can build in a timing belt if needed and if I see any advisory’s on the recent MOT then I have scope to do them if I want. If there was an admin fee then it’d just account for it with my max 6 grand budget. At the end of the day if anything takes it above my budget then I can’t afford it.

Great podcast guys. Love listening to these on a Sunday. Can we make the customers sign a profit disclosure? ‘Please sign here to acknowledge we are only make £400 on this car after all costs’ so please treat us with respect if something fails on it. There needs to be an industry standard as to which parts can be deemed to be failing at point of sale and which can’t. Because the inspection company, you know who I’m talking about will write anything that the company paying for the inspection asks for.

Rob and Dave are so honest, and genuine, I'm very lucky to now follow them, thanks to Joe. Rob is dead right about the Budget. Anything like that coming up, like Xmas will put the brakes on people buying. I'm finding this every year with my Motorbike Business, and Winter effects me greatly lol. You can't win sometimes lol. Anyway thanks, Joe, and Guys. Brilliant stuff. 🙏🙏👌👏👏👏👏👏

I can’t but help commenting on Jamie’s comparison of a painter and decorater and what they charge and what your bill at a garage is !!!!! I run a 8 staffed independent and have listened to you all complaining of how tough things are in your trade Well here goes The Decorator - he turns up in a van 10k? With tools 1k , both can be used again , he charges you his labour and materials… My garage - You turn up Rent and rates £3k per month Staff 25 k per month Electric 1k pm Diagnostic tooling £10 invested in several tool ( because 1 didn’t do all ) 350 per month in diagnostic subscriptions to keep machine updated £100-200 per month on special tools easily Oh and we also have cars/ vans we lend out !!!! Add that to a minimum of 12 months parts and labour warranty ( you get away with 6) and the costs soon ramp up I am sure Joe knows how difficult it is to get decent staff and get jobs out the door efficiently Rant over !!!😊 However , love the content from all your channels weekly and glad to see it’s the same shit just in a different format in different sections of the trade Keep up the good work guys

Surely if you can’t make enough money on the cheaper cars then dealers don’t sell them, buyers will be forced to go to private sellers and won’t be so keen as there will be zero warranty. Buyers will then have the “Heinz” option I know it’s a bit more but I know where it’s definitely beans in the can!

Zuto don’t sell no warranty to customers They tell customers they’re getting a 6 months consumer rights “warranty”which includes first 30 days full money back (all from the dealer) if they’re not happy with their purchase. Only know that because we’ve asked customers what sort of warranty they getting from the deal and that’s the response we get. These 3rd party finance companies are a huge problem.

I'm old school and as a mechanical engineer understand the crap you guys just go thru. I would never in a million years buy a used car and give the seller grief after 6 months of ownership let alone asking for my money back! The laws in the UK are bloody nuts (I used to be in the trade - thankfully new vehicles) There must be a way around it all surely? And old junkers shouldn't be liable for any warranty. Sold as seen. Same as trade 2 trade. Maybe I'm just old fashioned.

Admin fees are a scam. Buyers couldn’t give a monkeys if you’re charged them - they know that invariably you’re making some sort of margin on the vehicle. I’m current looking at cars and wouldn’t consider buying from a dealer that advertises an admin fee. Makes no sense either - why not just increase the ticket price by 300/500 quid or whatever?

Great chat as always. I feel like I need a Friday night out with Jamie! In fact, all of you 😂 Just a few points on the chat... Consumer rights will never be changed in favour of any business - once somethings been given, Martin Lewis will make sure it's never taken away. I've noticed that during and after the pandemic, the major supermarkets have profiteered massively and now aligned their prices so everyone is used to paying over £1 for a single croissant or a can of drink. The motor trade as a whole needs this approach - the big boys need to realign their margins so us corner shops can hang onto their coattails. I've often thought about the admin fee for a full tank of fuel, mats etc. until yesterday. I sold a Mazda CX-3 that, during the test drive, I thought I saw the fuel level was low. We agreed the deal but they went home for some ID to come back later. In that time, I put 15l of diesel in it, checked the gauge to see it read over half-full 🤦♂️ When I told him this he just shrugged - no thank you, nothing. I know that's just one person, but that made my mind up! Can't think what else I was going to say but thanks guys for brightening up my Sunday morning again 🙌

@@RealTorquePodcast I love you how you made baseless assumptions (laughably so) because you're upset that I quoted two facts - 40% is what the South African from Devon claimed within the last month or so, 10 properties is what your mate Dave has (or had before the "I'm buying my own garage" fiasco) in his portfolio. You expose yourself on here for free, so expect that people who can afford to have free time to watch your "content" will point out hypocrisy.

what chops is on about when talking about why would a customer want their money back when something goes wrong? Its because a customer loses faith in the car at an early stage of ownership, we dont lose faith in you fixing it lol, its exactly the same with other expensive purchases......also it a consumer right within the legal timescales......honestly watching this is exactly why the general public dislike Car Dealers, basically customer bashing from minute 1 through to the end....anyone would think you lot were scraping a living. You all obviously got into being a dealer because you all are passionate but dont try and turn the tables when times get tough. Dealers are likened to car insurance, consumers only know how good a dealer is when something goes wrong. Chops needs to get out of it imo as he wants to pick and choose what he places a warranty on lol....unfortunately the car is the car when you sell one as a company
@ChopsGarage18 сағат бұрын
You are not making any sense. I literally said in this that it was the legal right to return?!? Do you believe we are not aware of this? Losing faith in an old car because it has a problem makes zero sense too,as stated in vid. What is the logic in preferring it to have an issue at a later date at your cost?!? I also fail to see why in an industry were you see it fit to call us dishonest and "hated" that we in turn should not have the right of reply and point out this is no one sided story!
