YES!!! He does something alot of youtubers don't these days 😞 and tells everyone what watching it during the time was like and not like it would be watching it unfold today. It really is a huge difference and often gets skipped over. So alot of things get very down graded or "misinterpreted" by people people reviewing older shows/events because they don't understand how the time period really was. Not really their fault but still it happens alot. I really love that he brings the time period back in his reviews.😊

You do have to give credit to Mark about sharing his character and likeness to a double to give that gimmick match. He really was a guy who knew what would work with the audience target, and he sold that match like hotcakes and syrup on a Sunday morning to a hungry crowd.

I consider Taker's original attire to be a retro classic but I liked the purple look more and I know it looked very similar to the original but in a different colour, the presentation of the character was completely different. He was a lot more mysterious and slowly became a little bit more vocal, his promos were very memorable and it was during this era the dark purple lights was officially introduced and would become an iconic trademark of The Undertaker. Lots of great moments during this time and Taker's popularity was just absolutely exploding. Keep up the good work 👏

Okay he may not of been best technical wrestler or had the best moveset but he did an outstanding job in every role he was given. ( We will forget his timing debacle as Papashango @ WM 8s main event. That ultimately led to Sid being one of the only people to ever hkick out of Hogans let drop. He may actually of been thee first 🤔?)Not to mention he is one of the few wrestlers that really lasted. He had a really long career compared to most people. Most wrestlers don't get a good 15 years in the top companies but he did. No he wasn't a main event guy but he certainly was a mainstay and was fun to watch in most his roles. All u can really all of a wrestler is that they get people up and cheering as a face and overjoyed to see them lose as a heel and he did that really well. Another plus about him is that in his long career I haven't heard anyone say he was "stiff" or dangerous in the ring despite his size. That is huge for a wrestler.

This might be a little early in the videos to say this but I think part of what makes the fans really appreciate the Undertaker is that he would go away once and a while. Whether for a storyline or to heal injuries, he would disappear for a bit and come back, and people would be happy to see him. Honestly, I think if a promotion can afford to do that, they should let their top guys have a vacation, let them recharge and come back a new person. That can force you to build new stars and would give a decent storyline when that star returns.

100% agree on him being better... WWF was in a rock and a hard place then. Sid woulda worked so much better than Mabel, if they needed a pure heel, but then again anyone could have been better than he was.. I can see Taker looking amazingly badass in the King outfit. Maybe it woulda allowed him to do his 1997 look a little earlier perhaps. Always liked the purple but it was getting kinda cheesy by 1996. They were hard on for a heel king but I think Taker coulda done it well and Taker vs. Diesel at Summerslam 95 woulda been a great face vs. face match which woulda kept the crowd into it. It's not like Taker had great feuds to end the year anyways.

Some things wouldn't make since by today's standards but getting you to understand how it was veiwed during the time period makes alot of sense. He is really good about showing how many of these "big name" wrestlers were able to adapt to times changing and still be relevant and how in some cases they weren't able to adapt and fall out of the business.

I could not agree more with the undertaker vs undertaker match. I was 12 at the time but i remember it clearly. ( I had this event taped on VHS and watched it more times than i could count when i was a kid.) Yes it wasn't perfect but people unfairly these days pick it apart who honestly weren't alive at the time. It was kind of silly to an extent but was supposed to be in some ways and it was very much in the realm of pro wrestling for that time period and I'm extremely happy how you reviewed it. I give you a ton of props for pointing out how it really was viewed at that time and not just how it is looked at today by most people. It gets pointed out as a failure when it really wasn't and did exactly what a one off match should do. No it was not nearly as good as "Owen vs Brett cage match" was but it wasn't complete garbage either by the standards of the era that so many youtubers say it was. (Like I said previously about reviewers who mostly weren't alive or old enough to remember it as it happened. Not really thier fault but it happens way too much) So many of the fans today don't understand you can't watch these old shows in the same light that you would watch a PPV today. Wrestling today is almost veiwed as a realaity show with wrestlers being who they actually are and not characters which they acting as. They very much were being characters back in those days much more than they are today. Probably because you couldn't just get online and see what they had breakfast or what their home lives were like. Today everything they do outside wrestling is reported and available. Back then it was rare to hear something about them outside wrestling unless it was something extremely major. I can't better explain it than that but I don't watch a show like "the Flash" and expect the guy who plays him to be able to run 300 mph in real life. However fans today expect wrestlerss to be exactly who they are in the ring as they are outside the ring and during the early 90s wrestlers as we all know in the WWF had gimmicks almost to the point of them portraying everyday jobs. ( Garbage men, barbers, soldiers, Shamen, IRS agents and a whole host of other careers.) This was at the tail end of the superhero era and overall I thought it was a pretty decent idea and I applaud you for pointing out its a "storyline" and not something that could just happen in everyday life.👍👍👍👍👍👍

Brian Lee as the right size and right guy to make it work. He was also Taker's best friend, too which he helped him understand his character more in private. Having the two greatest bumbling detectives of all time made this a lot of fun as The Naked Gun movies were red hot on television and it worked so well. Also, the cage match made sense to go over thirty minutes because it was the "end all" kind of match where everyone knew someone was going to get hurt and is a career ending type of match half the time. Bret and Owen did this so well and it helped Owen get a chance on that ladder of success and before his matches with Bret he was at the bottom and could only go up, so Bret thought how to get his brother that push and did it ever work! When Owen beat him prior to this he went from lower card to instant box office heel in one night!

I was 7 and for years I was haunted by the way the undertaker snapped his eyes open on the big screen from inside the casket at the Royal rumble 1994.

Most loyal to WWF/WWE than any wrestler in history. And two of the best gimmicks in history. I mean he sold the hell out of “UNDERTAKER”, became an “American Badass” while also becoming the leader of the locker room. 🍺 mate. Your a LEGEND

the taker vs. taker match was perfectly described, as an adult it didn't seem like much but as a kid holy moly was this some of the best stuff.

Damn, Undertaker always seemed cheesy to me. Never bought it. Even as a kid I didn’t get it. But I guess I felt weird when he wasn’t in a PPV, he was not often the main attraction, but he certainly was important for the whole show, like an opening act for a big band in tour, and he slowly became a relevant figure as the super stars of his different eras were banishing away. Then with time, I kinda understood what was going on with the wrestling business and came to the conclusion that Taker was a good profesional and that was why he was always present, and gained the respect of McMahon and the rest of the wrestlers.

I remember Royal Rumble 94 because the part where the undertaker rose from the coffin my cousins were home alone watching it and got scared and called the police when my aunt found out she was fuming 🤣Great memories I loved wrestling from 92-2002 they were years I loved it - great video.

Taker's career arc thus far has been fascinating to relive. I feel badly for the Godfather because he got stuck with some lousy gimmicks and planted firmly in the mid-card.

I completely disagree with the Charles Wright comment. I didn't like the Kama character, but Papa Shango and Godfather were pretty decent at the time.

Summerslam 94 undertaker vs undertaker failed because it followed bret and Owen in the cage. Not many could follow that. Never mind a gimmick match.
