Since this has a 15 int requirement, you can also go for the Scholars Shield spell, since that only has a 12 int requirement and has a stronger guard negation buff than the grease! And the general thing ive noticed for the moveset is that Light Attacks get guard points at the end of the attack, and heavies at the start, this includes running attacks. Jump attacks both have guard points but they both have it at the end. The Guard Counter makes you drop your guard for the startup but you get a guard point during the recovery lol.

@@ghosthero0806 not just attacks, i had it 1 handed in my left hand not guarding and it was still occasionally blocking hits. I heard a ding and was like wtf. If the shield was between me and the enemy it sometimes blocked, if it was away from the enemy it didn't. I was playing with the omens at underground roadside when i noticed it.

People sleepin on the dueling shields. Not only the dash attack, but normal dual wield attacks have a block frame right after you attack (When your shield pin hits the ground for instance). The attacks also linger longer so the block frame is fairly long. AND it weaves into a regular block if you dont want to keep attacking. You can weave in attacks just before a boss is about to hit you. Timing is tricky though. But it opens up a whole new playstyle.

Kinda crazy. I hope to see more funky block frame weapons in future titles! The Carian knight sword is one of the precious few weapons that can block when winding up a heavy attack, and these funky shields can be hyper aggressive with stabs while blocking.

1 handed main hand works almost as well. Leaves open the left hand for a seal, staff or hand axe. Also when i was playing around and testing on Steve the Omen at the underground roadside, i had shield 1h in left hand, not guarding, and if the shield was between me and steve it was still blocking hits. Not 100% but it was strange to hear the shield ding and i wasnt even guarding. If the shield was on my side away from steve it acted as expected. Only if it was between us it would block.

God finally. Comments on the wiki, the sub, EVERYWHERE always mention using LB+RB/L1+R1, and yet every content creator I watch never seems to know how this shield works. The thrusting shield is pretty much all I needed to blow through all the enemy farming and MOST of the bosses in the DLC. I haven't bothered PVPing with it, but it was cool to see it showcased here

its a very cool weapon design. the guards are delayed on light attacks so you can bait ppl into hitting you then you just keep swinging and get them several times. Before they run away and keep their distance from you bc they dont know wtf they're supposed to do against something that can trade hits with them and survive.

I realized how broken the thrusting shield guarded poke when I was near the end of the dlc, I really hated the horned warriors in Enir-Ilim since they have a stupid amount of poise even when they get hit with greatswords, so I tried a bunch of stuff to find something that can fight them effectively. The thrusting shield absolutely bulldozed through the enemies, even the final boss was a piece of cake since I can just guard the ridiculous attacks in the second phase like it's nothing.

Muled the Carian one to a new character to do a full game run through with it, probably my most favorite new weapon from the DLC. It’s a perfect mix of offense and defense while also having a good set of variable moves.

This shield converted me to guard counters after never using shields for the whole game and most of the DLC. Saved my no scadutree fragment, no summons run. Putting Giant Hunt on this shield is hilarious especially when paired with Milady.

The running jumping r1's feel so good with this shield. I've never felt a weapon feel as good as this when jump attacking. The tracking is good and its a good moveset. I'm trying to figure out what weapons have the best guard counters.. any suggestions? The Cirque is fun with it's projectile but it's easy to dodge.

Great spears have super fast guard counters for how big they are. I think whips' counters are also decently fast and have great range, but not as much power behind them.

The build shown here is horrible for that. Use the new +3 medallion for stamina, and double headed turtle talisman, and you will NEVER get guard broken in PVE. I tried it on Radahn in the DKC, and didn’t heal or get guard broken ONCE while also spam attacking

Yea theres a lot of overlap with spears AoW but its not the exact same, it also gets access to Shield AoWs as well except Parries

carian has slightly lower element block compared to the regular shield but higher magic and physical protection and higher guard boost. Regular shield also has str/dex scaling while carian has st/r/dex/int.

How does this happen to people? The save data gets uploaded to the cloud as well so a corrupted file should be recoverable by redownloading a file from the cloud. Unless something crazy happened like the data that was corrupted saved over the cloud file I suppose...

Most players don't listen to or follow the pvp community. From a non pvp viewpoint there is little to no incentive to stay at 125-150 range and the dlc + end-game bosses from vanilla leaves you in the higher level ranges and are also difficult. Assuming players explore to do extra bosses and/or help out others the level range should be a good bit higher than what the minority pvp players say to stay at. I would only stay at lower levels if you specifically want to play with the pvp focused players or when most players leave the game once their done with it but even then you'll always find people in the higher levels since the playercount is so high compared to previous fromsoft games.

the two handed talisman seems to work with paired weapons, tho probably not powerstanced, since those are definitively 2 weapons, but paired weapons ARE technically the two handed moveset. it doesn’t work with the perfume bottles tho, probably since they’re all pure elemental … well except for the poison ones 🤔…. nah, it’s probably just the bottles themselves that are excepted. besides, they work with the perfumer’s talisman anyhoo 🤷‍♂️. tho… i did only test this with the dry leaf arts, so maybe those are just weird and work with the talisman for reasons? i dunno. do your testing i guess. always the safest course of action, in all aspects of life unrelated note: the smithscript shield is the silliest thing ever. unlike the smithscripts, throwing it uses FP, but only 3, so if you’re using the new FP regen talisman, it basically doesn’t matter.

I don’t think there is any reason to use Lord of Blood’s exultation over 2-H talisman. Even on a bleed build. LOBE gives 20% for 20secs after bleed proc. Which is very situational. 2H talisman straight up gives 15% without any conditions other than 2handing your weapon.

Yes. The DLC basically just unlocks access to the area but all the weapons are in your game files regardless.

Technically the pvp meta is 125-150 but that’s only really supposed to apply to duels. There’s no “meta level” for invasions, you get good activity anywhere between levels 60-200

@@Am4t3r4su it was an observation from my PvP and PvE experience with other players. It is a problem for PvP invasions, dodging from 99 skulls or disks or magic missiles is not exactly peak gameplay. It is not a problem for PvE, but it should not stop me from making fun of these players. Its not exactly a secret that souls games were never balanced around range combat or coop. They are playing the game on easy mode, MGS5 with a chicken head on. It is funny, thats it Souls community is pretty friendly and chill, there is no need to look for toxicity everywhere you go. I help players with bosses a lot, still - seeing a mage with no vigor die from 1-2 attacks is hilarious both in PvE and PvP I played Elden Ring on release as well - on a third week lvl60 Raya Lucaria invasions had 1-2 Moonveils guaranteed days in a row, usually Scarlet rot breath as well. This game is filled with interesting magic and cool gear yet internet ruined variety that fast. I find players, who seek the BEST option on KZbin and rush to obtain it, instead of actually playing the game and exploring it, boring and lazy. Why do we applaud no hit runs of souls games? Because its impressive. But in the same way I find players completing the game with fingerprint shield and range spam unimpressive and its reasonable to do so I think.

I'm actually pissed off that they yielded to these cry babies about the difficulty. And these are probably the same people who didn't pick up a single fragment. If you're not good at the game, don't play it. They probably tried to speed run the DLC and you can't do that. I'm not going to purchase it until they patch everything up I'm so mad. This essentially means that you have to collect less fragments to experience the game like it was supposed to be. Unreal.

I mean, the buff is only substantial for the first few scadutree fragments. The buff is negligable at max. Plus, with how many they put near each other, the buff doesn't do a whole lot :)
