So glad you reacted to my favorite Christmas song... sung here by the incomparable Karen Carpenter in 1978 (the Carpenters first recorded this "original" Christmas song in 1970; their former choir director had written the lyrics to an old flame back in 1944, and Richard had set it to music in 1966 - in only 15 minutes after first reading the lyrics!). The Carpenters released several Christmas albums and TV specials that were very popular at the time... this is the only Christmas song that brings tears to the eyes of many of us who grew up listening to Karen and Richard. It's Karen's voice... she does it to me every single time...

Listen to Bing Crosby "I'll Be Home For Christmas". One of the best. When I was in 7th grade I wrote a short story inspired by the song. She was reading examples of our writing to class. She did not expect mine to be the way it was. It was a very sad story and actually brought her and a few students to tears. It did its job.

Karen's voice was always captivating and full of character. Beautiful song. Have you reacted to any of Home Free's Christmas music Tasha? Suggest "O Holy Night" and "Do You Hear What I Hear". And come new year their rendition of "Auld Lang Syne" is phenomenal. They even make that simple tune sound spectacular. Also for Christmas Pentatonix "Mary Did You Know".

Karen contributed 2 major things to our society. Firstly her pure voice. Second thing is that she opened America's eyes to the horror of eating disorders. America watched her slowly waste away each week on their variety show, until she died from her sickness.

Madam : This is a re-recording of The Carpenters 1970 Christmas single. This is from their 1980 ABC Special, & this is the last time we ever got to see Karen sing. I watched this TV Special & was HORRIFIED by her appearance; she had lost so much weight, it was just weird, seeing her. By this time, Karen was spiraling down in her fight with anorexia & binge-purge eating. Too tragic. ---------MJL< 75 y/o
