A little more history on it. The reason it got that way was because the con had a “if you were banned from another con you can come here” thing. Now it was ment for wrongfully banned people a lot of people were being banned at the time for political reasons. basically if you didn’t agree with every opinion a con runner held on twitter you were banned. But even with that they didn’t screen anyone so alongside with people that were wrongfully banned people that were rightfully banned got in. The rest is history

True story, I forgot what year it was but I went to a walker stalker convention with my family and we saw Norman Reedus with security leaving through the exit. we spoke to him and he was really friendly but later we read somewhere that he was bit by a fan and that's why they had to walk him out. The fact that he was so nice to other fans after such a stressful event shows how good of a person he is.

Went to walker stalker a few years in a row as a kid, used to be good but could see it going downhill the last year we went. Read somewhere in an article management was getting less and less responsible, bumping up prices, actors being treated poorly. I remember the last year I went, I was like fourteen? I had pepper spray on me and security confiscated that, but when I walked in a couple cosplayers had real crossbows (yeehaw Georgia). I actually attended the 2015 Pokémon World Championships mentioned at 9:26, and there are a few additional notes I want to add. Firstly the event wasn't just about the Pokémon trading cards, but also a video game championships. Both tournaments are run side-by-side to each other and are live streamed separately to each other on the Official Pokémon KZbin channel. I'd actually argue that the video game is what is more well-known about the event, since I think it gets more views. Additionally, and this is kinda the most mind-blowing part, but the tournament within the convention is actually an invite-only event. The Pokémon Company run various big and small tournaments around the world and invite players from over a dozen countries with paid travel expenses for some of the top players, making it a hugely international convention. From what I'm aware, the two guys who tried to shoot up the event actually qualified for the tournament, meaning that they must have been competing in and winning smaller tournaments throughout the year in order to get an invite, and yet decided to use that opportunity for a shoot-up instead.

The worst part is that this isn't even the craziest thing to happen at a Pokémon convention. I remember the last catastrophic thing that happened at a convention was at one we used to call TnT(name got changed) it was an Anime Convention in my state and let's just say the party held on Saturday night caused the fire alarms to go off, people in fursuits and cosplays were close to passing out, the artist alley was held in an old building scheduled for demolition and also there was no light so most people had to use lamps, the main building was so tight, someone i stayed with got locked out of her hotel room while in a panic(she was only twelve at the time),etc. Many of us don't speak about TnT 2019 After that one i believe the other worst one was this one i went to early last year... it was hell. It was out in the middle of fuck knows where in a small building. There was no internet, no panels, and no vendors so many people just fucking left and some just sat in the front area and chatted

Maybe you can donate to a pet foster and adoption charity . There are so many animals in need of help and homes right now especially after the hurricane. Or Tunnels to Towers or a homeless veterans charity as there are just an astronomical number of them having to live in these tent cities all over the country because the shelters are filled up and they are not being given free housing, food, decent medical care or cell phones even though it was them that sacrificed so much for us. ( sorry it just makes me so mad how our vets are being ignored and being offered service after others if there is even any funding left).Just a couple suggestions.

15:20 I remember this. The stuff going down on social media afterwards was horrible. I can understand people taking the piss out of furries because, yeah, they're kinda weird and cringe, but I distinctly remember seeing a lot of people making a lot of inappropriate jokes and such on twitter after this attack. People defending whoever was responsible because "Ew furries" I guess. Like by all means, you can make fun of furries all you want, but like... making fun of a literal terrorist attack that just happened to target furries is uh...it ain't it, chief. People could have gotten seriously hurt. Also, on the topic of furries and furry cons, I'm surprised there aren't more in this list. There have been quite a few catastrophic furry conventions in the past (Cough Rainfurrest 2015 Cough). Though, to be fair, I swear I hear of at least one controversy for every furry convention there is lmfao. Furries are wild.

Here in the Philippines, a recent convention dubbed "ConQuest" has grew very controversial following a lot of reports of extremely long queues on the second and third day that were the result of overselling and greed in general. Staff used brutal crowd control techniques, like ordering food stalls to stop selling food on the 2nd floor, and cutting the power in the second and third days of the event. The long ass queue got so notorious, that the Philippines' biggest news anchors even covered it. Other than that, meet and greets were cut short, people with disabilities were harassed and alternate entrances were barred. The convention center can hold up to 20,000 people maximum. The organizers aimed for 70,000-100,000, to a point where the second floor was shaking due to the overcrowding. The organizers have been reportedly bragging about the convention and how ConQuest is "superior in quality" to other conventions in the country, to a point where he faked an apology when he got called out.

DragonCon's still the largest fan convention in America, I think. I know it's grown from 3 hotels to 5-7? plus the Apparel Mart building. That'll be over Labor Day weekend (Aug31 is Thursday) in Atlanta. Con is downtown, mostly in hotels, and does NOT STOP all weekend long. I do know a ton of fun stories (ask me about hunting down Doctors after spending 8 hours telling the people who failed their spot check that they want the big ass sign they've just walked by to come to me and ask me where to go). I know the fire marshal shut the Hyatt down one Friday night (and someone ended up dying) but I was inside at Evening at Bree, I just got bits of rant regurgitated over the phone at me. Think that was 2006 or 2007? It's still mostly volunteers doing everything (and volunteering is a useful way to get a badge), and I know there's a wealth of drama there. Plus you might end up on CNN (dunno if they still cover the parade) and you can be in the parade! (It's huge, and a ton of fun for everyone. Kids love it, the fans who've dressed up love it, it's just a lovely time, especially for local families.) I'd be happy to give you a tour if you decide on DragonCon, if nothing else I can see if I know anyone with a extra bed that's going spare. The hotels have been booked for months...but the Con is in Midtown Atlanta, transit is 2.50 per ride, and Atlanta's a BIG CITY. Plus there's probably some sports thing going on too, there generally is (really funny to see the two very different groups of people, even funnier (to me) was that in a full car the only guy willing to tighten my laces (overbust corset) was NOT a DC person but a "Gators?" fan whose wife was really attached to my outfit...

What happened to the Convention Counter?
@sparkdrive29007 ай бұрын
Pls make about the recent failed Pokemon convention called Pokeverse: Season 1. It was very similar to what happened to dash con even if the voice actor of ash veronica taylor and jason paige was there. The event was a ghost town, the organizer is a mess, the artists are neglected, there are very small amount of stalls and lots of open space.

5:15 the visual of people standing clearly on the floor next to a bunch of soft cubes really is giving lack of personal awareness. It doesn't appear to be a pit whatsoever. No pit I have ever seen is floor level random indoor-swimming-pool-style. Bad move (on her and on design. They could have simply used gymnastic-style pads).

I’ve been to some amazing cons, but they were organized by people that knew what they were doing. There’s very much red flags and things you can look out for. But I recommend folks attend cons of your favored fandom/other interests.

I have 0 problem with furries, you do you. If you're doing disgusting acts and you're a furry, I'm not going to blame all furries for that persons disgusting acts. no matter who someone is they can do bad things. I'm tired of seeing people think all furries commit disgusting crimes and stuff :(. They're usually nice

I went to Steel City Con about 8/9 years ago and some of those men did not know how to keep their hands to themselves, I'm still livid about the fact that they had the audacity to grope an obviously underaged girl in public like that. You could tell that I was a teenager, I was 15/16 and looked my age. They did that in front of my mom, she was right next to me the whole time. I should've freaked out and caused a scene, it would've been worth getting kicked out.

Reminds me of one year at NYCC when I saw a pair of girls dressed as the DEE DEES from Batman Beyond. They were booking it. Jesus someone must have really messed with them. I freely admit I pretty much 90% just get photos of regular cosplay. 1/10 are the ones that are blatantly gorgeous in full. One woman dressed as Lady Death and she might as well have walked off a Brian Pulido page. But I politely ask people as in all things. If they say yes, cool, if not, fair enough.
@maryleethefox8642 Жыл бұрын
I wasn't dressed up though, these were grown men groping a 15/16 year old that was wearing a batman shirt and hat. It wasn't just me being angry, I was scared and felt violated.
