Thank you Medhi for your always excellent journalism, this story needs to be told. Those of us who served there noted the training of the Afghan military, while technically proficient at basic Soldier skills, they lacked the inculcation of training their military to have some kind of motivation and autonomy, they did not have a deep and strong officer or NCO corps - they were always subjugated to the local US forces. They were also highly dependent on US forces for our highly developed CAS (Close Air Support) and supporting fires, both of which were often crucial in breaking any ambush or attack against us. The Talibs thus rarely mounted any larger scale attacks until we were of course gone.

Doug London did not answer the question whether he knew of civilian deaths from drone strikes while he was in charge of counter terrorism for South and South West Asia.

That's because this book is a not too subtle attempt by the CIA (who tacitly and obviously approved the books publishing) to whitewash and spread more of their disinformation. This is in fact a textbook example of slightly sophisticated propaganda.

it's not our country and the CIA has only existed since the end of WW2, these complex discussions never change the outlook of this country on "our right" to be involved in another sovereign nations government.

The creation of CIA was good til it betrayed the country by inviting the dam Nazi's over and started becoming the Nazi itself with experimenting on population, then provoking the inevitable wars anyways making it much worst. Now everyone is eyeing America.

This guy can have both ways. He can’t be a rat and promote his book , while simultaneously trying to be angelic as though he has no part in all those incidents. He should have just shut up
