For a 1 shot, I ran a halfling wizard chef, who cooked and sold monster bits for extra rewards. His quarterstaff was a giant mixing spoon, and all spells were useful in the kitchen. The spellbook appeared to be a regular cookbook to those who couldn't read magic.

Omg! This is so good! I've been thinking about all different designs and ways to make chef characters. There's my OG concept of a halfling lore bard Mrs. Plumpbottom or something like that and she WILL stop in the middle of battle and make folks eat a good hearty meal if the battle runs too long and it's time for grubbing. Latest idea is a Battle Master whose like a grizzled mercenary veteran who enjoys hunting down and good meal who used to be his troop's chef and puts as much hard work into cooking a good meal to keep up the strength and moral as he does striking down his enemies. A good battle begins with a hearty meal, ho ho!

I have a story. My DM was running a second edition game because he had the books and wanted to use them. We were making characters and as a joke I bought 100 pigeons for only 1 GP. He went along with it until we hot to a tavern and thought someone else also had 100 pigeons. I now have 200 pigeons is a small tavern. "Did it snow in here" was the response of the next person to walk in. We then went on a quest to a place far to the NW. On our way, we ran into some mosquito-bat things. I decided to try to utilize my pigeons. I missed with them until there were about 10 left. I hit with my swarm of pigeons dealing 140 damage total. I KILLED ALL OF THEM. For a total of what would cost 2 GP equals 200 damage if it hits. This is more HP than a level 20 barbarian in 5e. Remember, this is SECOND EDITION! How does one fix this?
