I remember the scene where Spartan is sitting in the backseat of Huxley’s squad car and he wanted to hear some music. Huxley asks the computer in her car to play “Oldies”, which are nothing more than commercial jingles and the most popular is the jingle for Oscar Mayer Hotdogs. Huxley and her partner sings the tune and Spartan has this look that he is saying in silence, “Elvis has DEFINITELY left the building.” Taco Bell enjoyed the fact that this movie made them stars in the film and had advertising on just about all of their restaurants. I didn’t know that Pizza Hut was in another print of Demolition Man. Then, again, I think Pizza Hut and Taco Bell were under the same company, if my memory serves. The scene where Huxley explained that a number of diseases came from physical contact was interesting and in many ways it was true. The H1N1 virus strain from the flu came out in the early 2000s. And now we have COVID-19 and its other mutated strains. I enjoyed the film for the escapist fantasy of the old colliding with the new.

Back in 2015 when all this PC shit really started to gain speed, I told my friends we were headed to a Demolition Man type future. And now voila you make this video, letting me know I wasnt alone with those thoughts lol
@kummynipples2 жыл бұрын
PC culture has been around LONG before 2015 dude. They used to call it the Satanic Panic in the 80s and 90s. They tried to ban DOOM, D&D, and metal because they just showed satanic iconography.

lmao "PC shit" has been said to be gaining speed ever since the Civil War. Calm down and take a media analysis course.

Due to inflation (created by Corrupt Politicians and the Fed), KFC, etc. (fast food) is, basically, now fine dinning. I never understand how we could get to a point where fast food becomes fine dinning; until now.

Demolition Man predicted most of the technology we use today, everything from self driving cars to tablets, smartphones and HDTVs.

Phoniex rigging the building to explode reminds me of Batman, how two face was created in Dark Knight also Frank Castle in the ware house and he thought he killed innocent hostages i.e. set up very similar. Also, the demolition man meets his daughter years later and the story was pulled from the movie. The government in San Angeles is very similar to Buck Rogers, this movie already had teams year's prediction comes true.

Thanks. This is one of my favorites from that time. I've always thought it was much more clever & well-written than most gave it credit for. Outside of my one peeve [Why would a museum have loaded weapons??] there's some really good writing here. Arnold having been president (fully 10 years before he was actually governor), self-driving cars, & Huxley's constant malapropisms in using old-school lingo. I even like Edgar Friendly's assertion, "I'm no leader. I just do what I have to. Sometimes, people follow." I know this is mainly an action shoot 'em up, but there's enough world building here to sustain either a much longer movie, or at least a sequel. And there's even pretty good character development. tavi.

Except for the 3 seashells, i'd say Demolition Man predicted most things right. Hilarious & sad at the same time.

I watched this 8 years back and simply couldnt enjoy it. For the exact reason that it lays out where we're headed if things continue. And this was 8 years back!

Their idea of utopia: Extreme political correctness. Demolition Man is truly ahead of its time, seriously. Lastly, I heard this theory about the 3 seashells: Nobody knows how the 3 seashells work in universe or out, and they're all too ashamed and repressed to ask each other for help. Also, the writer just put it in the script and let people’s imaginations run wild.

I recently rewatched it - with grownup eyes. Fascinating how our culture changed so much, a film with such radical, point blank libertarian philosophy would hardly be made today. I especially like how even Simon Phoenix was appaled by how crazy and evil Dr Cocteau actually was.

I've been having this conversation for about 6 years. It's almost like our leaders today watched 80s movies in the past and said, "ya know, that's not a bad idea."

Thats truth.. The current president of mexico is trying to do like the governor in this film, pushing the idea that savage sicarios are "victims" and they need love and hugs.. Its quite crazy..
