I'm actually a Guqin player and teacher as well, that's a great video to introduce the culture behind this instrument. I'm gonna show it to my non-Chinese-speaking students. Thanks :-)

Legend has it that the qin, the most revered of all Chinese musical instruments, #Wiki... has a history of about 5,000 years, and that the legendary figures of China's pre-history - Fuxi, Shennong and Huang Di, the "Yellow Emperor" - were involved in its creation. Nearly all qin books and tablature collections published prior to the twentieth century state this as the actual origins of the qin,[5] although this is now viewed as mythology. It is mentioned in Chinese writings dating back nearly 3,000 years, and examples have been found in tombs from about 2,500 years ago. The exact origins of the qin is still a very much continuing subject of debate over the past few decades. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Guinness

I really do love learning about the arts in various cultures! Thank you for putting this up! As far as learning something like violin, violin requires a straight back, good posture and breathing (like singing) and flexible arms, wrists, and hands. You need the flexibility in your right wrist to be able to control the sound you produce with the bow. Your wrist cannot be stiff. Your left wrist should be kept straight or else you're gonna give yourself carpel tunnel or something. Your fingers need to be equally flexible and will begin to stretch out on the left hand more than the right as you master the instrument. The left hand fingers need to be flexible to handle quick movement or setting down chords on the strings without tripping over each other and the fingers on the right hand need to be flexible to, again, control the sound with the bow. I think all instruments require a certain measure of dedication to become as effortless as the ladies in the video. But... it's pretty clear the guqin is perhaps one of the more difficult ones I've heard of.

It obviously was a revised version of the western zither. There has been an older zither from greece it's possible that the talented people the records spoke of were people from the west.

Couldn't believe that Gu Qin originally started 5,000 years ago although it's a myth. #Wiki It is mentioned in Chinese writings dating back nearly 3,000 years, and examples have been found in tombs from about 2,500 years ago. The exact origins of the qin is still a very much continuing subject of debate over the past few decades.
