A Catholic, a Jew, and an Evangelical walk into a bar...
Maybe not quite, but we did have The Chosen's three biblical consultants gather to discuss each episode, including this discussion on Episode One of the series. We don't necessarily agree on everything, but it was important to hear from each of these faith traditions while scripts were written and again after the episodes were done.

The best thing about this approach to storytelling is that it makes the truth more real. It does not replace the truth. It makes me want to read my Bible and think, “Could it have happened this way?” And often I conclude that, “Yes, it may not have happened that way, but it could have! It then makes me think outside the box and enriches my understanding and interpretation of scripture. The Chosen is a great show. I highly recommend it!

21:40 “evangelicals are very sceptical about calling anyone a saint”? Saint is the word used by most translations to talk about anyone who is saved and made holy through Christ’s death. In the Catholic faith a saint is a person who makes it to heaven. Saint with a capital 'S' is a someone who has Died and has enough miracles attributed to the intercession of that person therefore we KNOW that person is in heaven. We believe the miracles would not have happened if that person is not in the presence of God in heaven. They are in God's presence in Heaven which is why the miracles came to pass. To clarify, God chooses to grant the miracle because of the Saint praying for it.

am thinking the context was more about canonization of an honorific sainthood status - not salvation status. Evangelicals might be ok with St. Peter or St. Paul, but start to squirm a bit when going beyond the apostles in so far as using that appellation as part of the person's title

How do you know what Yeshua looked like? The fact that you frame your image of Him as important to you, instead of allowing Scripture to define and interpret Him, makes me wonder if you have even read the Bible?, and seen who He is really, because if you had with eyes that truly see, and ears that truly hear, you would have noticed how the Most High is described, His physical attributes, and that Yeshua ONLY cared about the heart. Yeshua wouldn't care one bit about how he was portrayed in terms of His physicality, only that His words were accurately portrayed so that their meaning and their Spirit brought clarity, clarity of His Spirit, His Love, and His Light! You sound like one of these "woke" lunatics that are ruining the world, and our country, lost in their darkness, and the darkness of the world, the world of illusion.

I agree with what Dr. Huffman said about how we "flatten" scripture. I had a hard time relating to who each of these characters were. Perhaps it's a lack of imagination or something, but it actually made it harder to understand. I have since had a better understanding and relationship with my bible but it was seeing past the black and white text to do that. This series has furthered my understanding of scripture by understanding the possibilities of what their character was like.

The keyword here is "plausible". If only we can do away with the "rigid legalism" and just enjoy the show, then there shouldn't be criticisms, instead, there should be compliments on how the bible is brought to life and help us want to dive deeper to the Word of God. So I for one am going to say "Thank You, Jesus! Thank You for leaving us with such rich words that even if we study Your Word 24/7, we would still be in awe of what You have done and what You are doing. Thank You for such creativity, even by The Chosen Team. Thank You, Dallas Jenkins, and each and everyone who made a commitment to make this show possible." I can't wait for the succeeding seasons! Episode one I watched halfheartedly - not really focused enough to catch what this person Lilith was doing or who she was. When Jesus calls her out as Mary and says YOU ARE MINE - my insides both crumbled and exploded!!! The music crescendo empowered the visual and in that moment I was totally and completely hooked!!! This did start the series off with a tremendous bang. I dont normally like to watch the thing with powerful spiritual significance being dissected down to the nuts and bolts for it tends to 'naturalize' and minimize a the thing that had a spiritual weightiness; however, I enjoyed this discussion greatly and appreciate the varying religious perspectives. Its like everything being done around this series is just so anointed and seems to be a demonstration of God's stamp of approval.

I disagree as a Catholic. I have no qualms with Simon Peter and how he was portrayed. We remember that Peter denied knowing Christ 3 times. No need to be scared of that portrayal. Love the show!!

Being young and, let's face it, stupid, I was flattered. Off and on for the rest of my life, supernatural things begin to take place. Nothing scary, at least not at first. When I was in my mid-30s, I knew without a doubt the "nothing scary things" began to take on a much more ominous presence. I began to hear vile threats against my life and those of my family. In shark terror, and scrambling to hold onto my sanity, I screamed, "Who are you??" I heard these simples words and thought my fate was sealed. "We are Joe Joe!" Words cannot be to describe my sheer terror. For the next eight months, I was tormented day and night, ending up in several institutions where no one could help me. Many, many times I called out begged God to help me. I thought my cries were falling on death ears because I had done this to myself. One day in the middle of my madness, the voices stopped; the tormented ended. God has stepped in and set me free! God gave me many dreams to confirm to me that He would never allow it to happen again and He's answered my many questions about why it happened in the first place. About 15min into this. Need to pause just to make clear a couple of errors that may or may not have been brought into the light by others. First, Rev. 22:18 has NOTHING to do with adding to the Bible as a whole or using some artistic liberty to tell the story of the life of Jesus or any other Biblical character or story. READ what it says for cryin' out loud!! What is so hard to understand about the words "the PROPHECY of THIS book"??!! It's as clear as crystal that Jesus is talking about the Book of Revelation. Secondly, Christians NEVER changed the Sabbath or Sunday. How does anyone change what the Lord has created? The Sabbath has always been and is Saturday. Sunday is the "Lord's Day" wherein many Christians gathered to celebrate the Resurrection and worship God. A simple DDG will yield a bazillion results in a nanosecond for those who wish to dig deeper.

What is the purpose of this when there is obviously a huge deficit as to 1. Is Jesus Christ as the Messiah? The rabbi would say and must say no 2. Has Christ been marginalized? Yes . The Roman church has done that by inserting Mary and the traditions of the church that would either add or distort scripture. For example, Purgatory. The infallibility of the pope. The doctrine of transubstantiation. 3. Doctrine is crucial and there can be no confusion. 4. This reeks of liberalism. Mr Jenkins , The gospel is not about a round table discussion. You must get the doctrine straight What is a Christian? Who is Jesus? What is the gospel.? There is nothing wrong with your very creative approach but when you start trying to make everybody happy, you will end up as I have said. Marginalizing Christ.

I want to share about my near-death-experience together with my deceased daughter. It's a NDE story about the way our lives are judged and measured and analyzed by ETERNITY. It's about the strength of forgiveness that can change everything for the better, even on the other side. It's a story of hope and blessings to everyone who is looking for a PROOF OF ETERNITY, and that's the title of my book PROOF OF ETERNITY by Alba Monn. It's a story of hope and blessings to everyone who is mourning about the loss of a loved one, especially for parents who have lost their own children. I came to testify that ETERNITY is a fact, that our loved ones live on on the other side, that they want for us to be comforted and completely consoled by the truth, because the truth will set you free. Blessings to everyone

This is so interesting and the fact that you have cared about all of the faiths that are affected by the story of the chosen and accepted their counsel is obviously a strong component of why this series resonates with so many and touches us on a deep level. One thing that is confusing to me it that I always thought the admonishment at the end of Revelation applied only to the Book of Revelation. The New Testament as a whole was not put together as a "book" until after John's time.

Hello Dallas I just want to say thank you for showing Peter breaking the commandments of the Sabbath cause many, many , many of us do that and that's what is happening. This literally helps us understand nothing happens when you put everything else first and God last or even so it is ok to break a commandment for our needs cause our needs are provided by our Heavenly Father so really it is not an option or a choice breaking a commandment. We have to keep each of them.

It seems that the Producer and his guests are a bit glib when it comes to the means of Revelation and Confirmation of Truth and the Impartation of the Nature and Mind of Jesus Christ. John 16:12“I have many more things to say to you, but you cannot bear them now. 13“But when He, the Spirit of truth, comes, He will guide you into all the truth; for He will not speak on His own initiative, but whatever He hears, He will speak; and He will disclose to you what is to come. 14“He will glorify Me, for He will take of Mine and will disclose it to you. 15“All things that the Father has are Mine; therefore I said that He takes of Mine and will disclose it to you. 1 Corinthians 2 14But a natural man does not accept the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him; and he cannot understand them, because they are spiritually appraised. 15But he who is spiritual appraises all things, yet he himself is appraised by no one. 16For WHO HAS KNOWN THE MIND OF THE LORD, THAT HE WILL INSTRUCT HIM? But we have the mind of Christ. He seems to diminish the role that the Word plays in salvation: We are saved by Faith alone in God's Word alone. Ephesians 2:9 8For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God; 9not as a result of works, so that no one may boast. 10For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand so that we would walk in them. Romans 10:14How then will they call on Him in whom they have not believed? How will they believe in Him whom they have not heard? And how will they hear without a preacher? 15How will they preach unless they are sent? Just as it is written, “HOW BEAUTIFUL ARE THE FEET OF THOSE WHO BRING GOOD NEWS OF GOOD THINGS!” 16However, they did not all heed the good news; for Isaiah says, “LORD, WHO HAS BELIEVED OUR REPORT?” 17So faith comes from hearing, and hearing by the word of Christ. They somehow seems to refer to the Word as flat - that our imagination and emotions need to be stimulated by additions that may only be plausible or not even accurate. But scripture says: Hebrews 4:12For the word of God is living and active and sharper than any two-edged sword, and piercing as far as the division of soul and spirit, of both joints and marrow, and able to judge the thoughts and intentions of the heart. 13And there is no creature hidden from His sight, but all things are open and laid bare to the eyes of Him with whom we have to do. The Holy Spirit illuminates and engages our mind and emotions - but is not subject to them. The Holy Spirit leads and engages our 5 senses - not the other way around. Those who worship God must worship Him in Spirit and in Truth. John 4:23 “But an hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth; for such people the Father seeks to be His worshipers. 24“God is spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth.” 25The woman said to Him, “I know that Messiah is coming (He who is called Christ); when that One comes, He will declare all things to us.” 26Jesus said to her, “I who speak to you am He.” 2 Peter 1 19 [k]So we have the prophetic word made more sure, to which you do well to pay attention as to a lamp shining in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star arises in your hearts. 20 But know this first of all, that no prophecy of Scripture is a matter of one’s own interpretation, 21 for no prophecy was ever made by an act of human will, but men moved by the Holy Spirit spoke from God. I pray that God will graciously use this project to lead people back to His Word and lead these men away from relying on their intellect, traditions, and experience - instead surrendering to the conviction, restraint, New Life, and Revelation that comes exclusively from the Holy Spirit, His Word - Jesus Christ Himself! BTW there are only believers or unbelievers - and the dividing line is the Word of God. Luke 11:23 “Whoever is not with me is against me, and whoever does not gather with me scatters. 24 “When an impure spirit comes out of a person, it goes through arid places seeking rest and does not find it. Then it says, ‘I will return to the house I left.’ 25 When it arrives, it finds the house swept clean and put in order. 26 Then it goes and takes seven other spirits more wicked than itself, and they go in and live there. And the final condition of that person is worse than the first.” 27 As Jesus was saying these things, a woman in the crowd called out, “Blessed is the mother who gave you birth and nursed you.” 28 He replied, “Blessed rather are those who hear the word of God and obey it.”

Although you have put the 21st century spin on the characters of this message, you have done so very tastefully and without compromising the biblical truths of the story of Jesus Yeshua's mission. You are so creative about the extrabiblical scenarios that lead up to the Bible texted content. And so far, I don't see that what you have done with the side stories here have in no way harmed the textual accuracy. In my opinion, I don't think that this is a violation of Revelation 22:19 because you haven't taken away or added to the PROPHECY of the Word. For instance, when Nicodemus was crying because he was torn between following Yeshua and staying in his life and wife, I wept for him, as though I was truly feeling his pain. If a movie can move your emotions like this does, you know that you are watching a work of pure genius.

Where it says that we should not add or delete from the scriptures, the Book of Revelations is explicitly referring to the Prophecy written in the Book of Revelations! Rev.21:18-19 "I warn everyone who hears the words of the prophecy of this book: If anyone adds anything to them, God will add to him the plagues described in this book. And if anyone takes words away from this book of prophecy, God will take away from him his share in the tree of life and in the holy city, which are described in this book." (NIV) Please do not take me wrong... I'm not, by any means, saying we can add or delete from the scriptures. I'm simply depicting what Dallas quoted into context of 'where' the words were written.

Your point is well taken concerning the overly cautious approach taken by modern Evangelicals toward art. The cure for that is to see the lordship of Christ over ALL creation, including the artistic expressions of humanity. There is good art which glorifies God and bad art which doesn't. Christians should lead culture in the pursuit of beauty.
