Hi Libbie, you seem like a sister in Christ who cares about truth. I just want to say that much of what you say about Catholic belief is untrue, and these are unfair accusations to level against other Christians who are doing their best to follow Christ.
@Powerranger-le4up
@Powerranger-le4up 2 жыл бұрын
@@libbie8884 I don’t think you really understand our teachings as well as you think. The fact is we Catholics do read the Bible and hardly use anything else in the Catholic Mass. While you are partly right in that we do pray to Mary, this isn’t the type of prayer that is worship because the Catholic Church forbids the worship of Mary. What we are actually doing is asking her to intercede for us like she did at Cana. One thing Mary never does is seek honor for herself. She always points us to her son. We Catholics actually do believe that we are saved by grace alone. The part that is different is that good works show evidence of God’s grace working through us. While faith is necessary, the Bible clearly says that we are made for good works and that we aren’t justified by faith alone. I hope this clears things up because we are Christians just like you are.
@Powerranger-le4up

@@libbie8884 Also, our 10 commandments are in fact the same as yours. We just noticed that the idea of no other Gods besides me and no making of graven images was talking about the same commandments. You are correct that the Bible is truth, but the Bible also says that the pillar and bulwark is the truth.

@@libbie8884, you keep talking about what the Bible says. Your eisegesis and proof texting of Scripture is obvious. The Bible is a collection of literature of various genres from different eras by authors who wrote under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit. The writings were collected, assembled, and canonized by the Catholic Church for use in the liturgy.

Thank you for sharing these insights. I especially love the "Jewishness" of the series because I wonder how things were in those days and how they are today. I am an evangelical Christian and I have always loved our Jewish brothers and sisters. I love seeing their practices and watch tons of stuff to see how we got from there to here. It is all very fascinating to extrapolate how things were and are. I love the casting of your program and the directions you have taken each character from. Love the round table! I am an ordained pastor with an M.Div. and the background of the shows means a lot to me. And, by the way, it would be amazing to have a book in the Chosen store that highlights the Jewish prayers and practices that Jesus does in the series/would’ve lived as a historical Jew….I believe these are practices that we Christians could benefit from implementing in our own lives….and you could highlight these by episode so that we can “see” them referenced in action too. However, just listening to n watching the scene you showed where Jesus was talking to Matthew, Jesus said to him, "I want my people to PARTICIPATE in their healing." I had not known that. What n eye opener. I even watched that episode n scene b4 n missed that being said by Jesus. Soo glad I watched this roundtable again. I get it now.🙏 Thank you.

The Chosen has really allowed me to be more open about my Catholic faith. Before, I was often forced to delete my comments. Now, I feel more comfortable because people are now asking questions. I also love that non-Catholics are now exploring the Rosary and the Chaplet of Divine Mercy because of Jonathan Roumie. His explanation has really helped non-Catholics see that these prayers are directed towards spending time with Jesus.

27:53 "God doesn't ask us anything that He himself isn't willing go go through." THIS. It's like lightbulbs in my head going off. God the Son was betrayed by his closest followers and friends (Judas ratting him out, Simonpeter denying him 3 times, etc.), shunned for telling the truth (that He is the Son of Man), and many more. THAT is OUR GOD. I used to think that God was all up in his high chair pointing his finger down at us whenever we sin trying to catch us do one wrong then saying I told you so. Nope, He is the God that was willing to go down from His throne, pull up his sleeves and actually live the way we did. And, He did this WITHOUT SINNING. Truly He deserves his title as God; He is our King of the Universe. Bless His holy name.

A friend who is watching this series got a Siddur ( Jewish prayer book) so she could look for the prayers used in the series and incorporate them into her daily routine. I think it is wonderful how the show is bringing all the groups together so well. Christian’s praying prayers from the Hebrew tradition and learning about the Jewishness of Jesus is so helpful to understanding the New Testament. Can’t wait for next season! I have wondered if you might bring out more about the mealtime blessings - praises and blessings to God who created the plants which become our food. It seems a contrast to Christian tradition of blessing the food we are about to eat while Jewish prayer blesses God who created the food.

I wonder if there is a group that is forming regarding this. Kind of a "Christians adopting Jewish Piety" or something like that. There is NONE like You!"
@MikeKBar13
@MikeKBar13 2 жыл бұрын
I was also struck by the Jewish prayer before eating, when laid next to a prayer typically spoken by christians. I heard the story many years ago, that in other religions maybe you would say a prayer AFTER consuming a good meal - assuming it was worthy of thanking someone for & you don't forget to, but the foundation of the faith is paying respect to the One who created us with the capacity to be Thankful first! When you put a meal before an animal, they just devour it, so the Jewish blessing acknowledges the Creator who made us a little lower than the Angels, with the capacity to think first, and act with intention. The "prayer" over the food for the consumer of the food itself, is last & simply implied. The priority is blessing the Giver. "Blessed are You Lord our God, King of the Universe, who brings forth the Bread from the Earth". The mindsets are very different.

Chosing a sect and a church is a real issue for believers. Like most things in life we tend to inherit those choices from our parents. Does it matter, sure it does! New believers, in particular, want to be right. If they are going to make this jump into a world belief system, they want to make sure it is the correct leap of faith. I don't expect a Catholic or a Jew or a member from the LDS Church, Baptist, Presbyterian, Methodist, to give me an objective answer. But I think a civil discussion by a varied belief group, such as this one, could have a positive implication to the world of Christianity. These are real questions that I have had and others ask.

Hey Tom, I’m Catholic. The reason we say that is not just because it’s true, because we have the information to back it up. If you were to trace the history of the early church all the way back to the first century to the time of Christ, you’d likely notice that the early church’s practices were very Catholic. The early church writings give some amazing insight into the practices of the early church. The Apostolic Church Fathers are a personal favorite of mine because the writers knew and conversed with the apostles. While we never force anyone to become Catholic, the early church writings often surprise non Catholics because they think the early church will be like their denomination only to be surprised that it’s more Catholic.

2014 I was emotionally abused by a guy that I thought loved me and when he would get emotionally abusive I would look out my bedroom window or at the ceiling and with tears streaming down my face ask "God why are you allowing this?" I felt like I didn't get an answer and I turned my back on him (years later I had an image in my head of Jesus sitting behind me looking sad and reaching towards me but I couldn't feel him because I was in too much pain). In October of that year I turned back to him but I still struggle with trusting him. In November of that year a 10 year old girl from the church that I was going to at the time was killed in a car accident. The following year I was watching a movie (not going to say what one in case this counts as a spoiler for anyone who hasn't seen it but will at some point) and a character asked her husband "where was God when our daughter died" and I was like "yeah God where were you when Faith (the 10 year old girl) died?" and immediately I could still see what was going on in the movie but I could also see the night of the accident after the accident happened and Jesus was there holding the 10 year old girl's hand until it was time to take her home. Last year December 20th my mom (who was a big fan of The Chosen) died from Cancer. After she died I went into the bathroom and kept saying "thank you God" over and over again and I knew I was thanking him that a friend of mine and my mom's was able to come say goodbye and my younger sister was able to make it a little bit before my mom died but I felt there was another reason as well I just don't know what.

My heart is with you. I was raped as a very small child. I too wondered how God could let it happen. My relationship with Jesus has grown since then. I'd like to share with you 2 of my favorite quotes from the book THE SHACK, when God is speaking to the protagonist about his brokeness and unending tears. "Just because I work incredible good out of unspeakable tragedies doesn't mean I orchestrate the tragedies. Don't ever assume that my using something means I caused it or that I need it to accomplish my purposes. That will only lead you to false notions about me. Grace doesn't depend on suffering to exist, but where there is suffering you will find my Grace in many facets and colors." "Don't ever discount The wonder of your tears. They can be healing waters and a stream of joy. Sometimes they're the best words the heart can speak." ❤️ Praying for you.

VBT, in October of 1996, The 26th to be exact, I was attending a Catholic retreat. A very looooong story short, I was given an almost unimaginable experience of the Holy Spirit. I too could not help repeating to myself, over and over again, "Thank you, Jesus. Thank you, Jesus!." This went on for the better part of an hour. I will NEVER forget that my immediate response, at a very spiritual level, of receiving this amazing grace/gift was to repeatedly say, "Thank you, Jesus. I love you, Jesus!" To this day, 22 years after the occasion, I am still in awe and SO grateful that I, at the time confused and honestly seeking, was "important" enough to the Creator of the universe, to receive His touch. Why me, my friends have asked? I don't know. I certainly am not as Holy as most.. All that said, Jesus gifted me with an experience of Him that changed my life forever. God bless all of you watching The Chosen and, more importantly, living a life which you believe is a life given to you and encouraged by the one and only Christ. He was sent and accepted His role as Savior! Let us, no matter how small, be His light in this very darkened world. Love to you, Sean

@@tvintx9741 may God continue to bless you and keep you. I'm so very sorry to hear of your dreadful tragic event! However you have learned that none of that suffering was from God. Amen ... hallelujah as this is in total opposition to God's Glorious character. This is why Jesus, God's only begotten Son was sent to experience the temptation as a human on earth. So as to ensure that the Godhead knew suffering, because He loves us unconditionally. Suffering is as a direct result of the exercise of humanity's free will - whether one chooses to obey God's Law or not? Apparently there was so much sorrow experienced by our 1st created family when they saw the first leaf die? They didn't kill it directly however it died due to their free choice - this was the consequence experienced! I'm so deeply very sorry for your suffering! 😪😥😢💔 What a fabulous book as it is SPOT on, it highlights the glorious character of God. Take the global flood as an example. Noah preached for 120yrs to warn the people of what was going to happen. Noah endured the taunts, jeers, accusations of his sanity I imagine? And God in all of His mercy gave the ppl plenty of time, opportunity to accept the truth & be saved by repenting & enter the Ark. However they grieved away the Holy Spirt and their hearts were hardened. They loved the world too much & by their own actions, and their love of violence, God could not break through, their hearts were way too hardened from free choice. Out of all of the abundant Faith that exists, it is all from Jesus, and He freely gives to everyone on earth as a gift. It is up to us whether we take that gift of faith & wholly accept it? And you have quoted & understood this concept beautifully from you testimony! Just so beautiful, as I imagine has allowed us all to repent ,& begin the healing process by abiding in the Rest of God the Father! 🙏🏻❤️🙏🏻 To repeat your testimony is a powerful one & you're so very brave to share ... thankyou from all of my heart! Truly a beautiful example of learning the true nature of God's character THANKYOU! 🙏🏻❤️🙏🏻

To the question of "If there is a God why does he allow people to suffer?" I always respond "This is not Heaven, We are here to prove that despite all these obstacles that we will endure and hold our love for god and one another near to our heart." Heaven and painlessness comes after our journey in the here and now

So glad to see Bishop Barron here. I’ve followed him on KZbin since his channel was Father Barron. I love the practice of Shiva. The Jewish people don’t do things half way. If you are grieving- grieve. Not sure why my fellow Catholics would find Mary’s appearance odd. Maybe more cultural than faith matters. But we also call her mother of sorrows because she had the greatest sorrow of her Son’s crucifixion. Goodness I’m not sure what the complaints were about. I really liked the setup and framework of this episode. I found season two’s structure and climax weaker than season 1, but this was a Very strong episode.

Yes, this is a "Unifier"! I grew up with a Catholic mother ( first generation from Italy) & my Protestant father - whose family was just as devout as my mother's family..... as a youngster had prayed to GOD asked Him, "what side HE was on?" I then heard in Mass when Moses asked questions of GOD at the burning bush & HE replied, "I am What I Am"! So, then soon after, heard the readings of Jesus 'going about HIS FATHER'S Business' when HE was 12 & was found in a temple. LOL! Today, I am Charismatic Catholic - that can quote scripture better than most Baptists & pray in Tongues as much as a "Spirit - Filled" Pentacostals!
