Makes ya wonder. Did John get to see the glory he was about to enter before he was martyred? Did God give him that grace? Stephen got to see it. Again, The Chosen just gets it. Dallas and crew do a phenomenal job.

When the sun hit John's face and he saw the lamb, I literally gasped and cried. What a beautiful way to depict John's viewpoint and honour him all these years later. And Jesus is the Son of God, and so it's easy to forget that John was his cousin. He knew him all his life. It must have broken his heart to have this happen, knowing it had to, but wishing it didn't. They depicted this beautifully... just enough emotion to be poignant without too much to be overdone. And putting Simon Z and Judas together washing clothes was brilliant also. Judas also, historically, had a history with the zealots. That is, his desire for the Romans to be overthrown and for Israel to be freed from the occupation was in lilne with theirs. I read that from a Bible scholar years ago, so it's fitting to have Simon Z who literally was a zealot speaking with Judas this way. It's hard to watch him taking the journey, knowing the wrong path he takes, and the actor they have playing him is perfect... so likable. This series is wonderful.

I have the same interpretation with John laughing with the knowledge that he will finally be attending a wedding banquet for the first time, even just his head. But I didn’t think at that moment that he was actually joyful to be attending THE BANQUET to where he will surely go, referencing HEAVEN as it is often described in parables as a WEDDING BANQUET.

This is a bit gruesome, but I think the brain is still conscious after beheading, as long as it has enough oxygen , for several minutes. He may have indeed seen what was going on at the banquet, for a little while. But, he was soon in Paradise after that.

When John saw the lamb. It reminded me of all the times in my chronic illness that God has comforted me. I remember a few weeks ago when I was in so much pain I felt like I couldn't bare it. It's mine too! I don't picture it in any way the way Dallas showed it, but I picture Joseph (or her dad) taking her to Elizabeth's, they were married, I picture her getting off the donkey and Elizabeth saying how blessed she was and embracing her....the leap of the baby in her womb. I picture Mary helping her with her pregnancy and labor and leaving after John is born and safe in his parents arms. I just love it. ; )

I love the part when God showed John when he looked towards the window that he was with him and that he was going to be with him in a blink of an eye! And John answered thank you! That was the best part of that entire episode 1 of season 4. Reminds me of Steven being stoned I did also catch when Simon said " it's still dirty" to Judas it reminded me when Jesus said "and one of you is a devil". Judas heart never really changed until he threw back the money.

@@RodMartinJr The name Israel is derived from the Hebrew words, "yisra," which means to struggle, and "el," which is short-hand for "God," or "Elohim." Thus it can be interpreted as someone who struggles with God. I looked it up on countless pages. They all say the same. And it makes sense, bc Jacob did exactly that before he got the name.

The whole point of The Chosen (as the shows creator Dallas Jenkins himself has said), is to bring people to Christ & motivate everyone to read the Bible. We all know the Bible is the best --- but watching The Chosen helps people who learn better visually, and encourages those who would not normally read the Bible, to do so. No one is disputing that the Bible is the best.

The story of Jesus and John shows in a profound way, the deity and human nature of Christ combined. He appeared to John as a Lamb; implying a salutation and a confirmation that he faithfully finished his work in preparing the way for the Lamb who was to take unto Himself the sins of the world. Jesus was glad that John will make it to the wedding supper of the Lamb, but at the same time as a human, He deeply mourned the death of His beloved cousin

Yes, Jesus approaches wearing sack cloth and ashes. A sign of mourning in the Old Testament. Today, we as Catholics are reminded of our death, on Ash Wednesday when we receive the ashes in the sign of a cross on our foreheads. We are dust, and unto dust we will return. The ashes a sign of our mortality, the Cross a sign of our hope in eternal life in Christ.

The research and time taken to bring full circle the prophecy. "Behold the Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world." As each scene passed I was thinking of the scripture.... isn't this what The Chosen is calling all of us to do? Not all characters are scriptural or perhaps just a mere mention, but how they add in support to the Life of our Lord and even call us to go back and read the scriptures. The example for the baby John's Naming Day and Zaccariah's prophecy for his son. Even the fact that is it mentioned in scripture that Zaccahriah lost his voice when he showed disbelief in the Angel's message. Abraham had disbelief in the Angel's message, Moses had disbelief in The Lord God's message. For those of us who are going back, let's go way back and use our footnotes to the parallel passages in the OT, especially Isaiah. Get yourself a good Biblical Commentary and open up the Word. Amen, Lord Jesus. Amen Holy Spirit - Come to us, do not delay.

I was disappointed by the scene were our beloved Mother Mary visited Elizabeth. First this was suppose to be one of the most beautiful celestial scenes!!! Also Elizabeth according to the Bible was around 50 years old, no 80. The scene I like the most was when St. John was going to die; he is thinking about the banquet in heaven and when he saw the lamb is almost like watching the promise of God to save humanity was a reality!!! Thank you our Lord for your love to all of us! 🙏

I think the baptism scene didn't happen for obe of two reasons One, there would be too much controversy. The Catholics and some others would want John to pour some water on Jesus's head. There would be others who would want baptism by immersion. Another theory is Dallas being an Evangelical likely doesn't believe baptism is necessary for salvation so just ignore that part of Jesus being baptized saying he does so to fulfill all righteousness. I also think the mount of transfiguration didn't happen as the majority of Christians don't understand the importance/significance.

Dallas was not disrespecting Mary --- he was showing the reality of people who lived at that time. I am very sure that her neighbors and even the religious leaders of her town both doubted she was a virgin during her pregnancy, and even gossiped against her. Does that mean Dallas disrespects Mary? Of course not. I am a Catholic, and even I understand this portrayal. Was Jesus accepted by His own? No. Was He accepted by the majority? Of course not, else they would not have called for His death. The Chosen is showing exactly what would have happened in that time, and they did a very good job of it.

I don't know if it was accidental or on purpose, but the soldiers who bring John the Baptist to be executed appeared to be in full Roman uniform. This is inaccurate. Herod the Great had his own Jewish soldiers to, and as long as the Judeans paid their taxes and kept the peace, Herod had little interference from Rome. Herod was a good friend to Rome, and taking care of trouble makers like John the Baptist was one of the reasons why. By the time Jesus was creating problems in Judea, Herod the Great was dead and Judea was divided up, part of which went to Rome. This is when Rome started taking a very active part in governing Judea, and had a Roman procurator (such as Pontus Pilate) assigned to govern the area around Jerusalem. Thus, in the case of Jesus, it was the Romans who arrested, tried, and executed Him, but not John the Baptist.

I thought that this episode was very well done if you were a person familiar with the gospels. However, if the viewer was not familar with the gospel accounts, they would have been confused by the time shifts between various scenes. This 30 year period was a lot to cover in a relatively short series episode and it had a lot of important elemental messages to portray. The gospels don't tell us, but I believe that Jesus and John knew each other as children, as teens, and as young men. John was the son of the high priest of the temple after all. Did John rebel against his own father or did his father realize the important role that John would live out in the coming of our Savior to the world?

Por eso el también vivía en el desierto, con una vida diferente al resto, incluso en su vestimenta y alimentación. When the Baptist saw the vision of the Lamb of God, did you notice the rainbow in the lower left corner of the picture? To me I couldn't help but recall Ezekiel 1:28, "Like the appearance of a rainbow in the clouds on a rainy day (the sad day of John's execution), so was the radiance around him. This was the appearance of the likeness of the glory of the LORD. When I saw it, I fell facedown, and I heard the voice of one speaking." Also, Rev 4:1-3: John of Patmos' vision of the Victorious Lamb of God where as "one seated on the throne" he is described as looking "like jasper and carnelian, and around the throne is a rainbow that looks like an emerald!" The Visionary of Revelation also heard the voice say to him, "Come up here and I will show you what must take place after this." Perhaps this too, for those who know this scriptural text well, could not have helped thinking of John the Baptist as having hear those very words too - as if God was saying to him, "John, good and faithful servant, you have accomplished what I sent you to do. Now, come up here, and I will show you what must happen next!"

Jesus didn't need to atone though, he said not to show outward symbols of fasting. He said "“And when you fast, do not look dismal, like the hypocrites, for they disfigure their faces that their fasting may be seen by men. Truly, I say to you, they have received their reward. But when you fast, anoint your head and wash your face that your fasting may not be seen by men but by your Father who is in secret; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you” (Matt. 6:16-18).A priest answered a question about ashes on Ash Wed, this way " The wearing of ashes is a common penitential practice throughout the Old Testament. One example is found in the writings of the prophet Jeremiah: “Thus says the Lord . . . O daughter of my people, gird on sackcloth, and roll in ashes; make mourning as for an only son, most bitter lamentation; for suddenly the destroyer will come upon us” (6:22-26). Ashes and other penitential practices can do great good for our souls, helping us keep in mind death and the transience of the world. The potential problem comes in our interior disposition with regard to the wearing of ashes. Is it a penitential sign, reminding us and others of death and of the fleeting nature of worldly things? Or do we treat it as a sign of our piety, a way to show others that we are so devout?

Having Judas first appear so likable makes his later betrayal so much more powerful. He's not portrayed as being opposed to Jesus but as someone who thinks he knows a better way to do things. Salome was a victim of her mother pimping her out. She was far younger than this show indicates. Probably 12 or 13. The dance is was also far more provocative. (The 'dance of the seven veils typically ended with the dancer naked before the one danced to.) Salome was undoubtedly a victim of s.a. Catholic tradition does say that she was saved, when Jesus was brought before Herod. His silence in the presence of hers abusive stepfather spoke volumes, and Salome was later martyred for her faith. I hope to see her in heaven, with John the Baptist.

@IstamnehapiTeca I think that's a tad too simplistic an analogy. And (to answer the other poster), yes --- kings at that time had alot of power, including the power to pronounce a death sentence. Watch The Ten Commandments --- Pharoh pronounced that very thing upon Moses. As to Hamas being "tit for tat," has nothing to do with the power of kings in Jesus' time being able to pronounce a death sentence whenever they wanted. Plenty of kings in the Middle East (who were not Jewish) did the same, and worse. One does not equate (nor satisfy revenge) with the other.
