That little cross after the asterisk is called an obelisk. Which I only know because Astérix and Obélix were named as typographical puns. Merry Christmas to everyone below and above: the line, Birmingham and Paris.
@RFC-35143 жыл бұрын
There are actually several (slightly different) marks known as "obelisk" and "obelus", so that type of cross is often called a "dagger" to clarify the exact character. Also, "obelisk" means "pillar of stone" and "asterisk" means "little star", hence why Astérix is so short, and why Obélix is massive and always walks around with a menhir.

Can't help but think he's gonna be a real theat once normal play resumes. Glad Watson bowed without pressing the reprieve today... they're starting to feel a little overused. Cold gloves can be job gloves. I bet there's an employer, e.g. a postal service, in a cold country that issues cold gloves as part of their uniform, thereby making them job gloves.

Santa doesn't NEED to wear his gloves for his job, but they help with his job, in the same way Penelope Pitstop doesn't NEED to wear her gloves, but they help with her job. If Santa's gloves are just "cold gloves" then his trousers are just "cold trousers", but I think we'd all agree the man wouldn't be fit to do the job if he was delivering presents naked from the waist down. Merry Christmas xx
@SgtLion4 жыл бұрын
But there's no aspect specifically about Santa's job that calls for gloves, it's just that by coincidence he lives in a cold place. Penelope Pitstop's JOB as a driver is clearly the driving reason behind her wearing gloves, Santa just lives up north. We would agree the man's not fit for the job without trousers, but he's fit for it without gloves, if anything he might be better at handling presents, just his hands would feel cold.
@SeanS1024 жыл бұрын
@@SgtLion Cold hands can be very dangerous, really if anything he should be wearing proper leather gloves, not mittens, but it'd give him a sinister vibe

@@mab9277 Very true. The evidence just keeps stacking up.
@philh52924 жыл бұрын
I was going to make a similar point to the OP on the original thread about Santa / Job gloves. Gloves don't have to be an absolute necessity to the job in order to still be job gloves for a person. I've seen some goalkeepers play in goal without gloves - so they're not an absolute necessity - but they're still job gloves for the many that wear them. Similarly, people can drive without gloves - but they're still job gloves when professional drivers wear them. There may be parts of Santa's 'job' - when he's indoors - that he doesn't need gloves for. But when he's outside delivering the presents, and holding the reins of the Reindeer, then gloves are very much part of his uniform and his job.
