Very brave. Also, all of his movies, Scientology is the benefactor of all his residuals that he gets. So Tom and Hollywood are keeping Scientology running. It’s completely disgusting and disturbing. Scientology has always threatened, the police, the courts, the IRS, and Gov. Let’s hope, with all these people leaving, and Danny Masterson being put away in prison. The church essentially sent thugs to track her down and take her to a rehabilitation camp. These huge intimidating guys showed up at my friend's door repeatedly, telling her they know she was lying, sitting out in the parking lot of her condo, etc. She finally answered the door one day with her 9mm in hand and told them to never, ever come back or they and the church would be part of a massive news story. Her friend running from the church was scared, didn't want her to call the cops because that would start a trail and the church would know where she was. That's how bad things can get.

How is it not a "church"? "Church" just means congregation or "community of believers".
@zenkim67095 ай бұрын
The more fundamental issue is this: nearly anyone can found a church using any belief system as its basis of worship, *no matter how absurd, irrational or unsupported by evidence that belief system is*. For example, imagine that I woke up 1 day & started telling everyone that I'd been given a startling revelation in a dream -- that the entire universe, all life on Earth & our human existence was made possible by an enormous, floating monster that appeared as a giant mass of spaghetti w/ noodles for tentacles & 2 gargantuan meatballs for eyes ... that this flying monster of spaghetti was in fact the most powerful being in existence as well as the creator of all things ... that the Flying Spaghetti Monster carefully hid His presence & existence from all human powers of perception & scientific instrumentation except in the cases of a very select few people He chose to be His holy prophets ... that the Flying Spaghetti Monster promised an eternity of unending joy & pleasure to His loyal worshippers in an afterlife that included an inexhaustible Beer Volcano attended by immortal strippers ... & that it was His divine will that I & others take our knowledge & use it to establish & expand a church dedicated to spreading the truth about His Divine, Saucy Goodness via a written Gospel "inspired" by the invisible touch of His Noodly Appendage. If you or anyone else were to argue (quite reasonably) that such a belief system is so absurd as to be preposterous for a basis of worship, that begs the question: by what reason can we legally disqualify the founding of this "Church of The Flying Spaghetti Monster" if there are other established religions & churches whose doctrines also contain utter absurdities? What makes 1 religious absurdity less or more "legit" in the eyes of the law when it comes to who gets to claim legal status as a church or other religious organization vs. who does not? Because, when it comes right down to it, *all religious claims boil down to "this is true because I say it is true" either with or without the accompaniment of religious texts*. As American author Robert A. Heinlein once wrote, theology is the 1 area of academic study that does not require a subject to point to -- unlike every other field of research, whether it be zoology, geology, astronomy etc. To go even further, theology is apparently the only field in which logical absurdities are not merely tolerated, they are regularly & continually defended as "a matter of faith" ... something that would NEVER fly in any other academic field, even in subjects such as theoretical physics where scientific evidence is relatively sparse & incredibly difficult to obtain. To paraphrase Sam Harris ... if you were to claim that speaking a magical incantation over your pancakes turns them into the body of Elvis Presley, you're clearly a liar or a lunatic -- but if on the other hand you profess a belief that chanting some Latin words over a cracker & some wine turns them into the flesh & blood of Jesus Christ, then you're just a Catholic.

@@marquitaarmstrong399 Mormons are very similar to scientology. Catholics are not, for starters, there's NO mystery beliefs Catholic church holds that are hidden from anyone but the highest members. They're just regular religion with their own issues they're SLOWLY sorting out (reformation helped), you don't have to pay anything at all, you don't work 90 hour weeks for them, they don't control your personal life (ideally, we need to fight to keep religious figures AND the government out of our bedrooms)... also imagine Catholics forcing someone to do abortions, this is like the opposite.
