_Gold Afternoon Fix_ will forever be ingrained in my consciousness. Incredible band with an extremely underrated discography. The Church deserve respect

They are a great band, I agree. The show they performed in Vancouver was brilliant. The second set was incredibly inspired, they sounded fantastic.

It was actually Johnny Rotten that wore the "I Hate Pink Floyd" t-shirt and he definitely DID write songs. Yes Sid Vicious was just an ornament wearing a bass guitar.
@Northerntransmissions6 жыл бұрын
You're right. When I was editing this I tried looking for a photo of the shirt and only found Johnny and Paul wearing it. Charles got his Sex Pistols mixed up. mrh

Wow, they mentioned Rock N Roll Animal by Lou Reed. Killer album. I have possibly heard Intro/Sweet Jane more than any other song ever. I still listen to it often today.

And it's the only live album that Steve Kilbey rates!
@BasswipeNC6 жыл бұрын
@@Northerntransmissions I know, that was great because he seems to be a tough crowd when it comes to rating music. I meet so many people who have no idea about the Rock N Roll album and the Church for that matter. I wish I could just discover both of them so I could have the enjoyment of listening to them new all over again. The Church is one of the most underrated band out there.

@@Northerntransmissions I remember from the typed and photocopied newsletter that the Church (meaning: Kilbey) put out to fans in the 80s that they were trying to convince their record label that their next album should be a live one or a double album. Well, as it turned out EMI dropped them, and they went with Mushroom here in Australia and Arista worldwide, and what we got was Starfish. Read into that what you will.

Criminally underrated band. Under The Milky Way is the most elegant song of the 80s...

Funny how steve deliberately looks in the other direction as the interview.

I think Steve was having a bit of an issue with Peter talking over him.

@@Northerntransmissions he wasn't playing nice at all. Something pushed him off.

@@davidleegoth I think he also was having a hard time hearing Charles - I put them too far apart so I could get the band into one shot but that left Steve outside of earshot. There was a strange tension within the band even before we started filming. It was an odd interview, but still entertaining (with some edits of course). The live show was phenomenal that evening!

Steve often seems to get ornery if he isn't leading the conversation or if he's not the subject of discussion. Oh well. Their music is excellent!

The interviewer is at best semiliterate regarding his rock and roll. It was Johnny Rotten who wore an I Hate Pjnk Floyd t-shirt and given how Floyd sounded in the mid-70s who could blame him. The Sex Pistols liked Syd Barret-era Floyd and at one point wanted Barret to produce them. I'm sure the interviewer knows none of this, the sum of his music knowledge probably comes from reading Pitchfork.

I'm a massive fan of the Church for 35 years. I have their entire catalogue and have seen them live multiple times. That said, this was not a flattering interview. A feeling of tension, talking over one another and just generally not in synch. It's not surprising that Peter left the band soon thereafter.

Steve kilbey seems a bit of a knob
@Duxydogs4 жыл бұрын
.....I’m not exactly sure what you mean by “..a bit of a knob”..it sounds like it could be colloquial Aussie Abbo Kiwi or a mix of them I’m not sure, however, the man is an artist and ever since that day when a second Cro~Magnon joined the first beat out a rhythm using cervid skulls and rib bones performers have been looked at differently; reverently, askance, shadowy, libertine choose any word or words including “knob” to describe them maybe it’s the drugs, maybe it’s the bohemian lifestyle who knows but their efforts are perceptions to a world vast, ever changing personal and profound that could make me, you or anyone a bit of.....hmm, well bit of a knob

awful interview, you can tell Steve's not into it, Peter's assertive/aggressive and the interviewer doesn't seem to know Tim wasn't in the band at the time he's talking about...
