An excellent documentation prepared putting great effort. Very valuable vdo. Alexander was really great. In 33 years he established his big empire covering so many places and also developed cities. The world was not much less advanced that time, yet they won and established their empire. The negative aspect is that they never thought in concrete way how they would rule the big empire over the years. They had no definite target. Only it was an exhibition of their power which vanished after Alexander's death due to lack of concrete planning. He had great organising power, but the target for achievement was absent.

Have these regions always been so desolate? Or is it the result of deforestation and overgrazing? For example lands of the whole Mediterranean basin area -Greece, Turkey,Syria, Palestine, southern Italy etcetera were, thousands of years ago -even before the Greek and Roman empires-. were covered by think deciduous forests but overgrazing by sheep and goats and cutting down of trees and subsequent erosion of top soils has led to the rocky and barren landscapes we see today on Greek islands, Sicily, Turkey and in most other areas that we see today. Except where we have some river valleys or a fertile plain.

Israel was the land of milk and honey. The forests of Lebanon were known throughout the Mediterranean. The Roman's came in and striped the area.. they even developed a way to dig deep into mountains, create huge fires that burn for days inside the mountain then dump hundreds of gallons of cold water into it to blow the mountain apart.
