I'm very glad you're working with Cubase. It's my DAW of choice too and seeing you use it means I don't have to translate anything form another DAW. Now if we could just get CLA to use it too.

Not only do I appreciate your addressing another cool and dynamic concept improving mixing skills, I really dug that you found a perfect balance of spread, eq, and phase, rested there, and proceed to push it to the edge of degradation. Too much, either in mono or stereo, you will experience loss of volume with comb filtering when compromising the phase of the track. It is a great phase checker as well when you introduce offset delays and decays. There was a spot you found, which I listened to a few times, that just sound killer. Detail, depth, separation, and added weight in addition to widening the stereo image in a cool way was a great musical apex. Sounded great in mono too. Thank you again for sharing another great tip!

Yes - but... AFAIK the CLA guitar/mid boost parallel eq is a MONO bus, passing through an LA3A (you can also clearly see him in the video pulling up just one fader and eq-ing just one channel on his SSL) - because think about it, you can spread or Shredspread your guitars all you want, but in mono and on small speakers all that will be left will be snare and vocal , so unless the mid boost support is straight up the center, it makes little sense, although it may please when played loud in stereo..
@BobbyHuff
@BobbyHuff 2 ай бұрын
Yeah mono or stereo either works for a different sound.

Great stuff Bob, I like the Waves S1 imager but sometimes I have it then sometimes I don't. I need to remember how to get it back without having to upgrade. The Gits sound so much better in the chorus with it!

I always use a "rear buss" for parallel compression on guitars/bass/instruments, I think I'll try this trick by adding the EQ to my rear buss

I’m at the point where I just save every one of your videos. Puig has talked about learning how to emphasize just a little of the “danger zone” of midrange (300-700Hz), and how important this range is to a balanced and full-sounding mix.
@BobbyHuff
@BobbyHuff 2 ай бұрын
Thanks for the kindness Scott. Puig is a master! I really look to that range especially around 500hz to boost distorted guitars.

Hi Bob, and 37K subscribers. I have a song/mix of my own that I am happy to say I finally cracked getting the Vox to sit right up front and personal using compression and a lot of this midrange advise. However, I feel like its gone too far, but what ever I adjust in the mix to try to pull it back a little results in destroying the magic. I've even tried a few mastering plugins to dip the mids again. Any suggestions? Thanks Bob.
@BobbyHuff
@BobbyHuff 2 ай бұрын
That’s a hard one to solve without hearing it. Often times these moves at the end of a mix are extremely delicate. Perhaps try and compress the mid range boost just a touch with a side chain from the lead vocal?

Is that only on certain instruments or is it on the BUS?

In this case it’s all of the instruments sent to an fx bus that contains the mid eq and stereo imager.
