8 hours of driving is about the limit to comfortably do in a day. People do drive further than that per day on road trips but most cars can do 4 hours before needing gas so you can do the whole drive with one stop

well to be fair, all points he listed were valid. I bet it was wet and moist as fuck, the chalk was non-existent or slimy or whatever, and it probably didn't help that you had to constantly watch out not to land on a kid below you. And you can see that the queues to the boulders really were big

I am so bummed I wasn’t there! I’m from the Charlotte area and have climbed here a few times. Wwc is definitely a little touristy, but it is a very cool place all in all in my opinion. I managed to get 2 or so moves from the top on that purple route on the big wall. I have a video somewhere. Big tip if you’re gonna climb here, bring liquid and normal chalk and a small hand towel to dry your hands.

I just recently got back from visiting some family in the Charlotte area. While I was down there, my sister and I went to check out the Whitewater Center however it ended up being a pretty big (expensive) let down, in my opinion. The non-deep water solo climbing area was a major snoozer. Routes were set horribly with no real thought, holds were disgusting and felt like they had never been cleaned or moved, there we several instances where a foot hold completely shifted when I stepped on it, and the rigid rules really stifled the fun. I wasn't allowed to wear my own climbing harness due to there not being a certified staff member to verify the harness was safe to use. I also wasn't allowed to attach myself to the autobelay, that was the responsibility of the unknowing staff that was stationed there. Overall, wouldn't recommend. The U.S. Whitewater Center is a "outdoor adventure" place for non-outdoorsy people. Stick to the dedicated climbing gyms if you are looking for climbing. I'd highly recommend Cliffhangers in Mooresville - super cool facility with some very tall walls and friendly staff.

they didn't do it justice in this vid cause they don't know what they are talking about. Go on a summer day from 10-12 o clock. there will hardly be anyone there so no lines and no wet holds + the temperature is better at these times. It's actually a pretty good climbing place with some moderately hard stuff that's set good. Usually they have one or two V7's and 5.12's set up.

Hey man, I live and climb in Charlotte and am out there pretty frequently during the summer if you make it back out next year. We could do a day of nothing but made-up dynos, we've gotten some good ones out there! I'd be happy to be a sacrifice and take a whipper to the face from 20ft+ up for the church! Praise be Tomoa! So here's the rundown on the DWS wall at USNWC... It opens each year shortly after they set the walls for the pro competition (Tuck Fest) at the end of April. Usually, that would be the 1st reset of the wall for the year, the 2nd being when they would reset in mid-July for a citizen's comp (Aqua Rock). Unfortunately, we only got the one reset at the beginning of the season this year so by the time you went the holds are especially grimey and in need of some maintenance. Saturdays are the busiest days by far, Sundays are much better (a lot of people in the South still go to regular churches and haven't converted to the Church of Dynolgy yet!). The hotter and sunnier the day the better, the holds then can at least have a chance to dry out. Also, liquid chalk is a must out there in between goes. Awesome vid as always and even more hilarious because I know how frustrating that place can be, but it can also be great! Haha

I used to live in Charlotte and used to go indoor bouldering at inner peaks everyday. Most of my climbing is V3-V4. My friends and I had an annual pass for the whitewater center and we'd go fairly often to kayak and go to river jam, which is pretty awesome. Overall, the whitewater center is pretty cool but as a climber I HATED the deepwater solo course they had. It just felt gimmicky and it was filled with a ton of young kids who were rambunctious and disrespectful. Nothing about the wall encapsulated the technical aspects of why I love climbing at all. To your point, the grips sucked because they were soaked and your shoes were screwed too. Can't tell you how many times I fell purely because my foothold slipped and to make matters worse having wet hands will increase the likelihood of tearing off some skin. The whitewater center as a whole is fun but I recommend avoiding the deep water solo section. It's a waste of time.

I think the coolest thing about this video is seeing kids observe you bouldering. Maybe they will get inspired to actually try it the right way or go to an indoor bouldering place. Maybe one day you will hear one of those kids at the bouldering competition at the Olympics tell their story of how they fell in love with bouldering by watching you lol. I do top rope. I had knee surgery before bouldering frightens me. I might try it if it's over a pool though falling into a pool sounds less painful than accidently falling on land wrong and destroying my already fragile knee.

@@wsemenske For me freedom means having a choice. As a European I can drive too if I want to, but I haven't chosen that option for a few years now, since I prefer walking, cycling, and public transport (trains, buses, coaches, trams, or the underground) over driving in most cases. I've never even owned a car, just borrowed or rented in the rare occasions it's actually been the best option, but again it's a choice that works for me. Your so called freedom means that people who can't drive (for health reasons, age, not being able to afford it etc.) just don't get to go almost anywhere, since the whole infrastructure is built for cars. I'd feel extremely restricted living there. You can keep your "freedom".
