My trade is 3 way Blazers: Brogdon to Phillips Knox to clips Phili: Harden to clippers Clippers: Morris 2027 1st round pick unprotected Boston Jr -ALL TO PORTLAND + Batum 2028 1st round pick to phili Blazers are happy. They get a first rounder and a young prospect. Sixers replace their point guard while also securing a tradeable expiring contract and 1st round pick that they could use together in a trade to bring another good player. Clippers get their guy harden and give up batum and Morris (both expiring) Boston (prospect who is not on timeline at all so not even really worth keeping w all their depth at guard) and 2 potentially amazing first round picks many years from now. All for the now/ screw the future for la. But they almost have to try it.

It’s amazing these franchises still can’t seem to grasp this concept regarding a star players contract situation. Trading a player for useless draft picks and medicore bench players is not better than “losing them for nothing” It IS losing them for nothing, just doing it a year sooner and cheating your fans out of one more potential title run before a rebuild, while helping another team compete. A rebuild those assets will not help significantly. We just saw this with the Suns, who are now a worse team because they talked themselves in to thinking they needed to force a trade for their star center during a title run.

I honestly think both of these situations are less than ideal. To me, James Harden on the Clippers wouldn't make sense because they have the 2nd or 3rd highest payroll in the NBA and the main reason why James Harden wants out of Philly is because he didn't receive an under the table contract extension that he was "promised", so sending Harden to the Clippers makes no sense for that reason alone. And the Clippers already have Westbrook playing point guard which is where James Harden shines nowadays, so that would mess up the rotation. But if James Harden was in Miami, then we all know that Jimmy Butler or Pat Riley wouldn't put up with his antics for a second.

That said, the Clips aren't getting Tucker without losing Covington. LA seems like the last stop for Batum, since he'll be retiring. He might still have something left, but that would be wasted on a trade. Meanwhile Covington has value other than just salary matching. Also, both the 76ers and Pacers don't get what they're looking for here. Brogdon is injury prone and Hield has never been in the playoffs. The 76ers asking price is high, and that package won't cut it, especially while sacrificing frontcourt depth. Springer has upside, but really doesn't move the needle, nor do second round picks. Hield, despite not ever playing in the playoffs, has some trade value around the league, and they'd want more.

A good adjustment to this trade would be to sweeten it just a bit for Philly and Indy. The 76ers would get Covington and give up Melton instead of Springer. With two high-minute incoming guards on this trade, Melton would be a bit expendable, they'd also have Pat Bev who signed in free agency, and Maxey will be looking for heavy minutes as well. Meanwhile Covington replaces some of what Tucker brings, and a little team + player reunion. Throw in an extra Clippers 1st round pick swap, and the 76ers likely take that deal. The Pacers could get De'Anthony Melton in the deal, in exchange for the negative trade value of Daniel Theis. Theis' contract has a team option next season, so the Blazers could just absorb that salary and potentially buy him out. Melton would add versatile guard depth with a low salary commitment, and he could be easily flipped later on. He brings win-now skills to a Pacers team that doesn't need a young guard who needs development like Springer. Adjusted trade: Clippers get - Harden + Tucker 76ers get - Brogdon, Hield, and Covington + 2030 Clippers FRP and 2029 Clippers FRP swap Pacers get - Powell + Melton + 2 Clippers SRP Blazers - Morris + Theis + 2028 Clippers FRP

The issue with james harden is since his last years with the rockets, Harden wanted to be traded to a title contender if that doesn't work he'll ask for another trade which the Nets really traded for Ben Simmons who kinda struggled since joining the team but at least he got his money back from the holdout. Now Harden is doing the Ben Simmons strategy where he would just holdout until he gets traded to LA but that won't work since the 76ers can actually block his contract if he refuses to play for the team.

That 4 way trade is actually pretty solid, helps all 4 teams, no big loser in that one unless the Harden, PG, Kawhi thing turns out to be a bust like KD, Kyrie, and Harden was. The biggest winner in that deal might be the Blazers since they are too guard heavy and turning Brogden into 2 SF's is perfect as they are the most shorthanded at that spot. Batum gets a happy PDX reunion, he was well liked there and could help the bench unit a lot. Although I don't like Morris attitude and other dirty BS plays from the past, he has the size they need and is still a pretty good player. The 2028 FRP should also be good, Clippers will be most likely be in rebuild mode then.
