The James Harden trade will finally be the end of Russell Westbrook’s career. Coach Ty Lue tried to make things work on the court but after 5 losses in a row Russ was benched and he’s not even closing games. This is a look at why it won’t work and what happens next for Westbrook.

Russ was just fine until The System came along 😂. you could tell Russ wasn't about it in that video where Harden walked into the locker for the first time, and ESPN tried to act like they we're so happy to see each other 😂 Russ knew the deal.

Russ's biggest glaring issue was that he's so athletic when he was in his prime, it made up for a lot of his deficiencies. Now that he's older and less athletic, he never changed his game to improve his skills, and is now a shell of his former self.

I disagree with the video’s opinion. I think Russ still has a lot to offer as a player, and he can adapt to a different role in a championship team. He showed that he was willing to sacrifice his ego and play within the system when Tye Lue coached him before Harden arrived. He could even be a valuable sixth man if he accepts that challenge. He is always available, healthy, and hard-working. He is one of the first players to show up at practice, as Patrick Beverly revealed. He cares about winning, not just stats. He also tries to play defense and contribute in other ways besides scoring. Harden, on the other hand, is not a good fit for this team. He is too ball-dominant, inefficient, and lazy on defense. He thinks he is the whole system, but he is not. Kawhi and George are much better players than him, and they deserve to be the leaders of this team. Harden should be traded, not Russ.

Personally, I think suggesting his career is over is premature. Russ already signed that smaller contract months prior to Harden's trade and it's probably the only reason why they're all on the team at all. I will say that Russ' minuets being cut is a bit disheartening especially since he's already making a sacrifice by being on the smallest contract he's ever been on in his career. I will say that if James Harden does end up resigning with the Clippers on a bigger deal, this Russ could be in some cause of concern.

Imagine if they could come out in one of two looks every game. Some games Harden starts and finishes games and Russ leads the second unit. Other games Russ starts and finishes and Harden leads the second unit. Not only does this allow for natural load management, but it causes other teams to not know which of these two looks the Clippers are going to throw at them so they'll have to try their best to prepare for both. Even better, if the look they're going with isn't working, they can switch to the other look midgame. They have so much talent that it allows for a ton of flexibility. This should be a blessing, not a curse.

I greatly appreciate Russ's time in OKC, but we've moved on with a rebuild that is finally starting to pay dividends. There's no good reason to bring him back now. KD, Russ & Harden had their chance in OKC, but it all came crashing down the moment Harden chose to be traded for more money and wanting to start over keeping the core together and having the dynasty that was supposed to be in OKC. Russ was unfortunately caught in the middle of all that drama.

Russ has no place in OKC's offense. There is absolutely NO REASON on why you would take the ball out of SGA and JDub's hands (who are both better players than Russ) so Russ can run the offense. You can't even argue that he could fit by leading the second unit because OKC staggers JDub's and SGA's minutes so one of them is handling the ball at all times.

Nah, its crazy how you somehow turned this into Russ slander. Harden will dissappear in the playoffs and LA will regret fucking up the chemistry that Russ had with the lineup prior to the Harden trade

He needs to go to a rebuilding team that doesn't have all their own picks or just doesn't want to bottom out. Maybe like San Antonio, Memphis, Chicago, Charlotte or Toronto. I think the best would the spurs who are unlikely to get a top 5 pick and are hurting Wembys development and the watch-ability of the team playing Sochan at point guard.

Crazy take. A lot of teams could use him. Miami is a contending team short PG. I could see him and Lowry as the 1 and 2 at PG and making a deep playoff push. He defends rebounds and pushes pace crazy to say his career is over

Bringing Harden to the team may have been their biggest mistake. Russ was playing good until he came into the lineup

Come on now, Clippers saved his career after the hell he been through with the Lakers. If he was released today, Im pretty sure he would immediately get a nice contract with a starting role on a good team like the Heat, Wolves, Kings, Pelicans and so on

What's bad about it is the Clippers allegedly didn't really want to give up on Russ. Management didn't want to trade for Harden anymore. Balmer allegedly went over the GM and facilitated the trade. So now the Clips are forced into this situation.

Send him over here in San Antonio! Our team badly needs a PG with leadership. His leadership, hustle, and ability to facilitate for Wemby and our offense will help.

I've always been a big Russ guy. Love guys that play with a ton of heart and Russ is the last of a dying breed. Him going back to OKC to finish his career would be the best ending.

Not a fan of both flawed players but out of the two, I see RUSS as more likely to complement every player's game in the team on a more consistent basis. Sure, Harden can get some heroics going but James play ain't connected to the rhythm of the team.

Russ took a pay cut to stay there with the promise that he'd start and he played well for them. That's why players always chase the bag because ultimately teams are more about business than championships anyway

Remember when russ said like he doesnt need a title to prove his worth or something like that? That mindset affects how he plays the game and his teams.

Still wish Russ would have came to the Spurs after KD left OKC. He, Kawhi, and LA could have hunted down Golden State. Ahh what could have been. Still would love to see Westbrook as a Spur, if not just so I could get that jersey.

Honestly, knowing the owner made the Hardin trade happen, I just don’t think the Clippers considered, like really considered, how to play them together. I think it’s a business brain mentality that if you have more talent, you’re better. Unlike in business, basketball means you’re more creating a method to put a ball in a hoop and then keep it from going in another. So it’s not as much about having talent as much as how well does your talent perform those acts. I think the owner got in his own way to an extent here.

For real this is not on russ, the clips were awesome to watch pre harden with the healthy big three of kawhi pg and westbrook, honestly harden is the problem and made their offense stagnant again... such a bad trade

I am a huge Westbrook fan, and I love him both for his skills and flaws. Something about the criticism he gets the past two years doesn't make sense tho. People say he is not as good of a player and he is not a superstar, yet when they go after him they treat him like a superstar failing. And I completely disagree no team would want him, he still has plenty in the tank. I feel like that video should be about the Clippers horrible trade decisions yet somehow Westbrook is in fault for what is going on. It just doesn't make sense.

His career isn't over. He's just on the wrong team. He was having a great season until the Harden trade. He simply needs to be on a team who can use him as a starting PG. Miami, Boston, Philly, Indiana, OKC, and San Antonio are all possible playoff teams that he would be an upgrade at PG for.

Biggest benefit for Brody is this is the only way his career gets saved. By becoming 6th Man he won't get as hurt and still be serviceable come playoff time. He's on a team full of ageing stars and they're still suffering from being too damn small. He'll make an impact the way he knows best with the longevity or durability this brings him.
