i was about to ponder how reading these books as a preteen altered my life but then it struck me one of the plot points is Massie convincing Alicia to tell her her biggest secret so it’ll create a bond that will make it difficult for either of them to break, and in a state of intense adolescent loneliness i told who i considered my best friend that i was this other girl’s biggest fan and really admired her, just hoping it would bring us closer but it completely backfired and she told everyone i was a lesbian and that’s how i learned i was gay. and for some reason the other half of the story where Massie spills Alicia’s secret and ruins their relationship never ever crossed my mind that it would happen to me as well. Life imitates art

OH MY GOD I have been looking for this movie for so many years, I watched it as a kid and have very vivid memories of it, I‘ve been unsuccessfully trying to find it for years and half-expected myself to confuse the plots of more well-known teen movies and make it up but THIS IS IT (I have no idea why this movie stuck with me like that btw, but I am so happy right now, one of the big mysteries of my life has just been solved)

My friends and I literally quoted this movie all the time in middle school (we read the books too, the plaid covers ugh) we’d reenact the bbq scene and the part where she loses her diamond earring in the hall and screams NOBODY MOVE

The Clique books came out starting in 2004, the movie came out in 2008. Gossip Girl the book came out in 2002, the show started in 2007. Gossip Girl came first. Just a heads up. But I totally LOVE both. This vid is perf.

I can't believe I read the books. I honestly could not believe how disrespectful and rude these girls could be and were "friends". Also how grown they were acting. My mom would kick me out the house real quick! Kinda liked Alicia tho.

They’re in seventh grade people, they’re not little kids and it’s clear they’re acting like teenagers because of the environment they were raised in. I don’t know about you guys but I was thirteen when I was in 7th grade. I kinda understand their behavior but as an adult I feel like I would never be okay with my teen child shopping alone after school. Idk that’s just me tho.

@@Bumpinthat2000 you're right, it's 12-13 not 11-12, but that doesn't make them any less children. That being said the whole thing with the main cast is that they're all neglected emotionally by parents who expect them to look and act a certain way and they're extremely rich (except Claire and I *think* Kristen). They've got different rules and milestones than the rest of us
