Joe Bonamassa: “I bought this guitar on October 12th, 2004 at exactly 8:19PM. It was sold to me by a single mother who had found it in the passenger seat of her father’s 1981 Silverado.” Mike Campbell: “Oh, what is that, a Firebird? Definitely. He doesn't try to pretend like he kbows everything about his guitars. It's so refreshing to see a collector who seems to kbow just as much as an average guitar player and who just collects guitars because they move him in one way or another. It's just different when he picms up a guitar and the first story that he tells isn't how rare it is or what's so special about it but what his wife thought about it.
@maxpeck41542 жыл бұрын
I'm a spec nerd. I think it's interesting, but the best guitar I've ever owned is my white Firebird - the one I gave the fewest shits about spec when I bought it.
@J.C... Жыл бұрын
Just, because he doesnt spit out exact specs about everything does not mean he isn't "caught up in the...detail". It just means he didn't talk about it in this interview. The whole estimating the year thing could be done on purpose when he knows exactly what year they are but doesn't want to come off as pretentious.

wow - props to Gibson for featuring the Fender stuff in their own video. I think that's massively respectful to the player and the music. I love that Gibson was not too proud or insecure in featuring other brands - all those bands are truly the sound of rock music and part of history, very cool that Gibson made sure to honor that. Mike Campbell is one of the finest melodic guitar players I've ever heard - loved his parts since I was a little kid.

These kinds of comments rub me raw after enough of the heaping praise happens. Fer cryin' out loud, when you do a show that's called "so and so's GUITAR collection" you dern well better include ALL of their guitars. This isn't Mike Campbell's GIBSON guitar collection!
@rdmkeytohwy2 жыл бұрын
I just want to echo the sentiment in these comments. Mike is very humble and cool and is one of the greatest guitarists in the history of rock. He defines what it means to be a collaborator in a band and the fact that Tom Petty wanted his input and guitar playing on all of his music says it all. They made each other better and were and are so special.

That really struck me. As someone who loves guitars I’m amazed that someone who is such a great player can have such fundamentally basic gaps in his knowledge about the guitars he owns and plays.
@jasonw4053 Жыл бұрын
@@davidburke2132 its because you don't need to know all the specs to play. Some people obsess over specs and stuff, and focus on that more than just playing.
@davidburke2132 Жыл бұрын
@@jasonw4053 and I never said you do need to know all about your guitars to be a great player (although there are benefits to knowing about your guitars in terms of helping you find your sound, ensuring you don’t get taken for a ride when you’re considering acquiring something, and understanding a bit about why you like what you like and helping you find alternatives, complementary gear, etc.). The point was one of surprise over his lack of knowledge. I’ve watched a number of these “The Collection” pieces, and most of the famous and successful players know a great deal about their guitars… Mike stands out as an exception here. That’s the core point.
@jasonw4053 Жыл бұрын
@@davidburke2132 yeah, I get it. Mike isn't a guitar nerd, he just plays them, and is so rich that he can just buy whatever looks cool or interesting. I think it's more like he sees instruments as tools, not as much as precious and delicate collectors objects.

This is the best thing I've seen in a long time! It's so good to see a seasoned pro still so innocent about how he picks guitars... it doesn't matter if you have an expensive guitar or not.. Just listen to what that instrument is telling you while it's in your hands! Makes me want get back into a band and play just for the love of it again. M.C 🙏

Gibson, I and many others here LOVE these videos. Thank you for making them more than 10minutes long, every collection video feels like 10minutes when they’re an hour +. Major props for showing the fenders and other guitars. I love my Gibson guitars and Gibson truly is my favorite when it comes to guitars and sound

This is genuinely my favorite thing on KZbin! But PLEASE, plug them guitars in - just 2-3 chords at least.
