Clarence lives 15 minutes from me in Allentown PA and always went to the ww2 weekend at the Mid-Atlantic air museum every year like I did. When I learned that he goes to the airshow I talked to one of the tankers there and asked where he was because I was a huge fan of him. It was sad because he told me he hadn't seen him this year which was odd because he's usually everywhere. We later learned that he fell ill and would pass away a few months later. I never got the chance to meet him in this life but I can wait 60-70 more years to meet him in the next one. What a hidden gem he was.

This was also 1945, there was no standard paint color for German tanks anymore, there were still tanks with Desert or Eastern Front camo that were redistributed to western divisions (in the book, the other German crew it follows got a "new" Pz.IV still in Italian Campaign camo). Ooh, I read Spearhead too! It’s an amazing book, it also shows the perspective of a German tanker who was also at cologne and how he “met” with Clarence there. Interestingly, the German tank commander told his gunner to hold his fire because he thought it was a new German tank, and after the duel he was convinced that it was still a brand new German tank but it was captured by the Americans.

Read the book “Spearhead” by Adam Makos. It tells the story of the gunner of the m26 Pershing. It’s a great read and also tells the story of a panzer IV gunner late in the war and how both gunner meet each other.

I remember the battle of tanks in Cologne has been recorded by two American soldiers at the film recording department when they used one of the buildings. Although the film swayed due to the Pershing's shots at the Panther, it was one of the few moments of a tank vs tank combat in WWII. Still, I also hope the Pershing gunner finds this video and find it amazing.

I’ve read a book about some of the people who actually experienced this, the gunner of the actual Pershing, and the hull gunner or something of the panther. It’s really amazing and entertaining to read while also being real. The book is called Spearhead. It’s named after the 3rd armored, which the Pershing was in.

It’s refreshing to hear a Russian say this. More often Russians say the Western Allies waited too long, and didn’t contribute much. And did it for selfish reasons, etc. The West contributed what they could. Yes I know the Soviets made the largest sacrifice by far, but the West contributed and earned a mention.

Yep, most German soldiers were able to jump and front flip over obstacles. Many history channels omit this fact, but you nailed it. 😉 On a serious note, as I'm sure you are aware, the film of certain parts of this battle is quite well known. **Clears Throat** Actually, with weaker cannons, such as the 76mm cannon of the m4 sherman, you must shoot to the sides of the panthers gun, preferably toward the right when facing the tank, when using a heavier gun such as the t26e1 90mm (Larger length barrel than m26) you may shoot anywhere. When using the m26 90mm, using upgraded APCBC, you may shoot the point where both frontal armour plates meet, or at the gun mantlet.
