Board games are all about WINNING. No baby co-op board games, no easy mode tabletop game nights, just purely tactical, strategy based board games where the best player wins! At least, that's what the competitor thinks board gaming should be, victory points and win conditions first and foremost. Who cares about neat components and fancy miniatures, it's all about the gameplay mechanics and how to best min-max them to devolve every game night into strictly following the meta. The heaviest games with the most complex strategies make for the most satisfying victories, no party games here, only games that have tons of strategy guides on board game geek!

How bout the game-starved? People who love the hobby, have their own collection, would honestly play just about anything... but either have no table space, no one to play with, their friends are all perpetually too busy, or some combination of the above.

thank you so much for your entertaining videos! always makes my day :D and following my suggesting for another stereotype: THE BOARDGAMECOUPLE f. e. the ones that can't play against each other because they don't want to hurt each others feelings....or pretend to play against each other but are secretly helping each other. or thr other extreme: the couple that always tries to fuck the other one over (like me and my bf hahha). would be happy if that can become a new video :D

I can one-up that. At a con, I hosted Anachrony immediately followed by TI4 with most of the players being new. My brain was molten lava after that.

You should do the “ally” who always believes the most devious player no matter their past. Basically believing everyone in diplomacy and never considering a backstab. Could be funny

I have a friend who is so like this. He always insists on using advanced rules for games when playing with someone new to a game. We once played Fief which he had played and none of us had and he insisted on using Fog of War (which is only recommended if everyone has played the game) which allows you to hide your units. No one else played with it and he pummelled us. We said everyone should be playing with the same rules, his defence: it's a recommendation not a set rule so he was allowed. He also never lets us choose our own starting characters/factions and sets them up for us claiming they're random. I'm pretty certain he googles the best ones and gives them to himself because whenever there's a balance issue its always in his favour. However i did once beat him at Star Wars Rebellion with the Rebel base on Alderaan and he was in such a sulk he didn't play a game with me for months so i got my revenge! Keep up the great content!
@Shelfside

oh gosh, the person who wants to play with all the hardcore rules even though he is the only one that understands them, sheesh. But winning in SW Rebellion is one of the most satisfying experiences ever, so props to ya :) Cheers, more stuff coming! -Ashton

I've watched every single one of these stereotype videos. You seem self-aware and outspoken enough to not be any of these stereotypes! Your game room is full of natural light. I don't think I could play in a windowless finished basement after experiencing games in such a nice environment.
@Shelfside

ahaha, I definitely channel these stereotypes one way or another sometimes, especially when I was younger- its that devil that resides in me The natural light is really nice, but we do often times play at our friends' places, and thats where the darkness seeps in -Ashton
