I think what people miss about the 'wrapping Nezuko in clothes' solution is that she's on _fire._ If demons could hide from the sun with something like clothes and umbrellas they absolutely would, but any exposed skin leads to fire and suddenly everything is burned away. Remember basically everything in this setting is made of paper, cotton and wood. Fire was a real issue in meiji and pre-meiji era Japan. City blocks had massive fire breaks, just huge wide open spaces in between buildings to try and prevent the whole city going up in flames. It's part of why the fire bombing of Kobe was so horrific.

So, here's a history tidbit: the swordsman doll is an automaton, a doll that moves via mechanical parts similar to a clock and is designed to do specific things sort of like the mechanical dolls we've had for basically ever. We have documentation of them existing in Babylonian times, in The Hanging Gardens, there's surviving ones that can write, play instruments, sing, and there are records of ones in ancient Greece that served wine and even ones in ancient Japan, though to my knowledge, none survived into modern times. So, the training doll is technically historically accurate.

Fun fact, Katanas aren't very durable swords, the impressive thing about them was the fact Japanese sword smiths were able to create even somewhat usable weapons out of locally available metals, the "folded a thousand times" thing was done to try and beat the impurities out of what was basically pig iron, and even then there was a lot of waste they'd used for things that didn't need to be as durable or they'd just throw away/sell cheaply. The fact we see characters break or chip their swords so often is actually one of the most realistic aspects of the series.

Actually he was about eight when he was turned into a demon! An asshole kid came to taunt him after his parents died and their bodies washed up in the river. Gyokko (His human name is Managi) killed the kid and stuffed him in a vase. Later, the kid's parent found out that Managi killed their child and stabbed Managi about 14 times with a forked harpoon before leaving him to suffer for 12 hours before Muzan came and turned him into a demon. All of this happened when Managi was EIGHT YEARS OLD. that's why he kills kids, bc he is one. I'm actually so pissed that his backstory wasn't in the manga/anime, just in the corps records book.

I think Danny’s points at the end make sense. Like how the hashira trainin ark is going to be good for just kinda taking a breath for awhile instead of just Timeskipping through training sequences and healing and getting a deep dive into more of how our main characters and side characters are dealing with all this (plus more of Inosuke so I’m not complaining). However, I do have to argue that season 1 for me is probably my favorite in the way that we got tons of characters introduced AND we got to be up close with them and see their interactions with Tanjiro and Nezuko intertwine with their arcs and backstories. Season 1 when the hashira we’re having a meeting about what to do with Nezuko felt less combative and more introspective into the characters and their own personal feelings with demons. All in all, super stoked for the next season and this was a great video Danny!

No spoilers, but I will say that Uppermoon One has a very extended, but defined connection to Tanjiro that will reveal itself in the next arcs, although not the way you might expect. I'm putting very minor spoilers about Tanjiro under here. Tanjiro is not any sort of chosen one, nor any sort of prophesized person. He was just lucky. There were many other people who would have done the job much better than him, but never had the opportunity to do so. If you go back to season two, he says this. Just a hint, but Tanjiro mentions that he was not born with his mark. I will say this though. There was one person before Tanjiro. Just one.

2:04:14 it was mentioned in season 1 that Muzan is looking for the blue spider lily flower because consuming it apparently makes demons immune to the sun. Nezuko and Tanjiro's mother used to frequently make tea out of the blue spider lily and feed it to her kids which is why nezuko and tanjiro both already have the antidote to sunlight in their blood, so they'll both be immune to the sun even if they turn into demons. Apparently the blue spider lily grows somewhere near tanjiro's house in the mountains and this information did reach muzans ears because he came to that mountain in order to take the flower but the flower only blooms in the day which is why Muzan couldn't find it at night but he did kill tanjiro's entire family on his way tho 💀

lol danny😂😂 27:32 the point of a nichirin blade isnt so its unbreakable but rather able to kill a demon. the mineral used to forge the sword is infused with the sun or smth and its able to cause deterioration from any low level demon. the only reason tanjiro's sword has been breaking so often is bc he keeps running into demons that are typically dealt with by hashira. and their swords, i believe, are made to withhold their obnoxious physical strength without cracking or breaking easily

So a theory that me and my brother were talking about and saw someone else talk about is how nezuko can withstand the sun is because tanjiro and her were related to sun breathers. So when muzan found out tanjiros family was being killed he rushed over to change as many as he can into demons but only nezuko survived being turned. Muzan wanted to create the perfect demon that can survive in the sun and he thought a sun breather turned to a demon would be perfect

Mitsuru's sword has real life inspirations btw. It is based around the concept of the Indian Urumi. It is a sword with a flexible, whip-like blade, originating in modern-day Kerala in the Indian subcontinent. It is thought to have existed from as early as the Sangam period. The hilt of the Urumi is constructed from iron or brass and is identical to that of the talwar, complete with a crossguard and frequently a slender knucklebow. The typical handle is termed a "disc hilt" from the prominent disc-shaped flange surrounding the pommel. The pommel often has a short decorative spike-like protrusion projecting from its centre. The blade is fashioned from flexible edged steel measuring 0.75 to 1 in (19 to 25 mm) in width. Basically her having such an exotic hair color, her strength and her apetite, turned down suitors because they were looking for a traditional Japanese woman or "Yamato Nadeshiko": meaning the "personification of an idealized Japanese woman", or "the epitome of pure, feminine beauty"; poised, decorous, kind, gentle, graceful, humble, patient, virtuous, respectful, benevolent, honest, charitable and faithful. Basically what is generally believed to be typical and best about Japanese women.....and poor Mitsuru did not fit the profile of the Period

I know all the swords breaking is pretty confusing since they're meant to be powerful weapons, but the reason why I think they can break is because they're made specifically for breathing techniques. So if a person uses their sword against a demon without using a breathing technique, then it basically becomes a regular sword, and (obviously) regular swords cant cut through a demons neck so it would just snap. Like when Genya tried to use it and it broke, it didn't work cause we found out that he can't do any breathing techniques. For other scenes tho I would just guess that the character didn't have enough time to fully start their breathing move before the demon slashed the sword. This is just my theory tho it probably has many flaws but idk- just thought I would share it :)

Different poisons can do different things. Stiffen muscles, make people sleepy, clot blood, etc. all poison is, is a drug that has a negative effect on the body. Thats a broad classification too lol. On top of that, not knowing the amount of poison ie the dosage for sed drug, you dont know hows its gunna affect the person or animal. Giving too much can make it affect them faster or just not work at all cus their body is like i dont like this get it out, put them on the toilet of you have to, taking too little may have negative effect over a long period of time like migraines or upset stomach or even a fever for a few days. If they wanted to be more effective they should know their audience better like how the Flower hashira fine tunes her poisons for the demons. About the mountain swordsmiths being unfit for consumption is because they spend most of their time working nand the hot springs used for bathing are probably pretty filthy if most people are going into them because did you see that water turn green when tanjiro jumped in. But this is just a theory who knows those hot springs could be slayer only even though very few slayers ever stay their long enough to need nightly baths I'm pretty sure

Fun fact, if you inhale deeply and exhale quickly, your body doesn't have time to convert all the oxygen to CO2, because the rate of your heartbeat corresponds with the rate of oxygen usage, so as long as you exhale before the natural rhythm of breathing, you'd get more oxygen than CO2

Kay I’m watching this late so I don’t know if anyone’ll see it but - about the swords breaking, I thought that katanas were supposed to be incredibly strong when cutting along the sharp edge, but weak/fragile along any other dimension. So keeping the katana’s force moving exactly along the direction of its cutting edge in the heat of battle would be a skill that takes incredible effort & training to master. With that in mind, I thought Tanjiro’s sword breaking every season was a sign of his inexperience. Kay that being said, now I can’t find a reliable source to back this up and I’m wondering where the heck I heard that lol. Can anyone confirm/deny?

I am SO LATE to this reaction 😂 but in case anyone else watching late has the same questions as Danny: 1. The reason these specific swords are so important (despite then breaking on Tanjiro every other episode) is that they're literally the only thing that works against demons except sunlight. This is because the iron used to make it is special and has.. absorbed sunlight... or something. They explain it a bit more in season 1. Which means even if you take a normal sword and slice a demon's head off, it won't kill them. (This is why the demon didn't die until sunrise despite Tokito brutalising him all night long.) Think of it like silver vs. vampires. (Edit: Genya's gun/bullets are made out of the special sun iron as well, which is why it works on demons. I don't think that's explained in the anime.) 2. Swordsmiths being "unfit for consumption" is just a preference (of taste) and not anything related to morality. Even if it were, Gyoko wouldn't care. He just doesn't like how they taste, probably because they're all tough and chewy. I don't know. I've never eaten a swordsmith. 3. Despite the improve joke cracking me up, Hinokami Kagura is actually all named already. Remember, it's a dance ritual Tanjiro learned from his dad, passed down in his family for generations. "Sun Halo Dragon Head Dance" is not Tanjiro's fault... and it sounds cooler in Japanese. 4. In season 1, Haganezuka explained that some people who work with fire have reddish hair/eyes. (Which is why he was initially excited cause he thought Tanjiro would have a red sword.) Tanjiro's family made soot and Tokito's made firewood, so as they both work with "fire" it's entirely possible for both to have reddish hair without any blood relation. (Hair colour works weird in this universe... Mitsuri's hair apparently got turned pink because she kept eating sakura mochi. What the even fuck.)
