just fyi, crystals1986 always denied his fixation on hospitalization, crystals, and abnormal hands was fetishistic in nature. his best friend had marfan syndrome, a disability that results in arachnodactyly, or large hands with long fingers (among many other more debilitating things like heart problems and chronic pain). it's likely his weird art was due to his experiences with his friend's marfan syndrome and was a way of coping with his friend's declining health. a youtuber named squid slushy recently posted a video taking a closer look at crystal1986's archived account

this is definitely gonna be one of my favorite iceberg videos! I love hearing about all the weird stuff on DA, even if I don’t use it anymore, though i would like to mention something. Crystals1986’s art seems more like a coping mechanism rather than a fetish, as they had a friend with Marfan’s syndrome, and big boney hands are a symptom of the disorder. They drew their friend quite frequently in their art, and portrayed them with all the aspects of Marfan’s syndrome, however, sadly, that friend passed away, and Damian (Crystals) ended up deactivating their acc. all of this stuff was mentioned in Damian’s journals, which display the difficult life the poor guy had. I hope he’s doing better now.

23:40 - Crystals. Coincidently I only heard of them today, but I need to correct you on this. They didn’t draw the art for fetish reasons. (They themselves said it) Basically - their best friend had a condition (Marfan Syndrome) that, among other things, gave him long bony fingers. I can’t say exactly why Crystals drew the art they did, but it seems to me it was a form of self-comfort. As for their friend, sadly he passed away.

I kinda hate how its so fetish filled, with the fact the site disallows blatant pornography. I count fetish art that is obviously made for sexual gratification as porn, even without nudity, so it feels dirty that it's so common on an near all-ages site, and happily skirts past the NSFW filter and onto the front page. Yeah - the snuff kinks and all dont bother me, the community isnt too much weird as any other kink community and usually hang on places like darkfetishnet instead of DA, but its bloody creepy when they upload real photos of people to DA and just slap text stories on it. Surprised the kisekae game wasn't mentioned (didn't watch the whole video so it probably was, if not vaguely mentioned) It's this flash game made by someone called pochikou that's pretty commonly used on DeviantArt, it's a highly customizable 'dress up' game where you can make basically anything you want. Originally it's meant to be a NSFW anime game but due to how freely you can customize the characters for free, lots of people just make OCs or recreations of their favorite characters. It's surprisingly not mentioned in videos that much. Even with flash gone, you can still play the game to this day.
