Thanks so much for sharing your thoughts everyone! Many of you have pointed out that I missed out on highlighting a major part of Bangalore's history: the contributions of King Krishnaraja Wodeyar IV. He was responsible for innumerable public works and advancements in the Mysore State and Bangalore specifically. I'll definitely consider making another video on the more recent history of the city to rectify this glaring omission!

"Bro, Kempegowda was just a chieftain of Bengaluru under the Vijayanagara Empire. There were many chieftains like him, and 'Gowda' is not a community but a position, similar to today's roles like MLA, MP, DC, minister, etc. Bengaluru has its own history before Kempegowda's ancestors arrived. While Kempegowda's influence on Bengaluru is significant, attributing the city's entire founding solely to him is a political stunt favoring the Vokkaliga caste. Please conduct thorough research before presenting information to avoid misleading people and promoting someone's agenda. History follows its own path."

I have been in Bengaluru all my life and this has to be the most comprehensive history I've heard. It's unfortunate how every generation tends to forget iconic pieces of history and places, but vids like this make you appreciate them more!

In 1950, Bengaluru had a literacy rate of 44 percent, compared to India's average literacy rate of 14 percent. This achievement can be attributed to the establishment of several central public sector enterprises in Bengaluru. The credit goes to the Mysore kings, whose contributions significantly benefited the city's residents.

In 1934, 10 year old girl Byramma had attempted a marathon swim in Kempambudhi Lake. It made headlines across globe as she swam for 18 hours continuously. 2. The oldest inscription is in Hebbal of Hebbal Kittayya which belongs to 750 CE. 3. Winston Churchill stayed in 1896 as Army officer for 3 years 4. Roman coins were first found in Yeshwantpur in 1892. Later in 1965, Roman coins were found in Bellandur

You missed the rule of the Gangas of Bengaluru represented in some of the Veeragallus around Hebbal. Also the cholas were here too and left a plaque in the Kashi Vishwanatha temple in Kadugodi

Gangas are the old rulers of this area and lots of towns like yelayanka Nadu kengeri ulsoor etc were already established . But Bengaluru pete was built from scratch in forest area from kempegowdas

Lo thukali, begur inscriptions mention bengaluru are in tamil and the area was part of chola empire!! Just because Bengaluru is part of karnataka now doesn’t mean it is buiit by Kannadiga’s.. sumne olu dengbeda,,I am a kannadiga and true Bangalorean and i know Bangalore was a part of many empires before it came under mysore wodeyars and became a part of Karnataka!!

Bangalore was not suddenly developed by Kempegowda (recent news says he is a Tamil himself from Kanchipuram, Tamilnadu). Bangalore was there even before him. Even the Chola's built temples in Bangalore means it was an important place even before then.

Huge respect to kempegowda who started everything. 🎉 Right video at the right time 😂 IT boom is recent the locals were the one's gave their blood and sweat for this place for thousands of years under different administration and nurtured it. People need to know the past before claiming that they are the reason for every good thing in the city. You go to a place to get a job (because it already has opportunity) ,earn salary and not with an intention to develop the place. 😅 I think you could have touched little more on wodeyars and their work in developing Bengaluru and surrounding areas. You know like how Bengaluru got street lights first in all of asia. Great video 😊

I am a Bengalurean , been here for the past 22 years. Wasn't born here but i like many migrants came to Bengaluru and fell in love with the city and never left. I love the people,the culture,language and of course the weather. I was always curious as to what this city would have been like before the recent past. I knew bits and pieces . Thank you for making this video which gives a succint summary.. What book do you recommend to know more about the city.. I am more interested in the history pre Mysore Sultanate era. Thanks again

Thanks for watching! I got most of my information from this book called 'Bangalore Through the Centuries' by Fazlul M Hasan. It's not easily available online, but you might find the reprint in Blossom Book House. Alternatively, you can get the original edition as a PDF online

What an incredibly rich and vibrant city! Neo-bengaluru seems to be missing the grandeur and originality that made the Vidhan Soudha the undisputed centerpiece of every tourist's photograph. We need more of such architecture. That was a beautifully crafted video with excellent tidbits. I knew the Basava temple was old but wow! Keep 'em coming, please! The Bangalore palace war built by the British for the Maharaja. In fact they bought a already built house of Mr. J Garett and then expanded it. The usurping of Mysore Kingdom from the Wodeyars was already done by Dalvoys of Mysore by 1720s & 30s itself much before Hyder Ali ever came into the scene. Let's learn the precise history before looking for excuses for wrong agenda

So, it belonged to Srimanmaharaja of Mysuru and not to the queen of some far away island who had the audacity to proclaim the title, Empress of India.

@@chandanbilagunda yes, there were 'political tensions' and frequent changes in the political landscape of the Kingdom of Mysuru during the later years of Srimanmaharaja Dodda Krishnaraja Wodeyar. And yes, the Dalawais acted as the point of power, and wielded authority over the Kingdom. It was not right from both sides, The Wadiyars and the Dalawais at that time, to look away from the obvious threatening future of the Kingdom with rising insurgency from the neighboring nawabs. And there were some unfortunate or rather fateful incidents that led Hyder to inch closer to the Throne. But that doesn't give Hyder, the right to the Throne, nor Tipu. In fact, no invaders had any right to the land. But it was a fateful period in the history of the subcontinent. They were the ones with agendas and excuses. I've no excuses nor any agendas right or wrong, but I sure do have one thing, that is the eyes to regard the history in the way it is supposed to be regarded. History is not plain as it so appears, but rather complicated that one might actually fail to understand the very basic point of it. And who knows, the Kingdom of Mysuru wouldn't have been annexed by the British if not for Hyder, Tipu and their four bloody wars.

@@kt-suhas you're making this a black and white issue of Hindu Muslim thing. This business is the present concept from a few years. Anything the Muslim does is all about had no right at all, anything the Hindus did was a little mess under some circumstances! This is blatant hypocrisy. It's like we have a higher God given right for power. When the society of those days itself was never so divided at all though so communities understood the cultural v differences they had and kept only to their homes and didn't let politics get affected by this. The Mysore Kingdom so called because it originated from Mysore had no more higher right to Karnataka areas than other Palegard but after the Vijayanagar Empire collapse they fought with other palegars and took territory that didn't belong to them. They bought Bangalore fun Mughals and befriended them and had a huge Muslim contingent in the Mysore army even till late 1940s, that was all Ok? They destroyed the power of Magadi Kempegowdas and imprisoned the last ruling Kempegowda and he died in prison in Srirangapattana, that was ok? The Dalvoys started ruling Mysore and Raja became nobody decades before Hyder and they were corrupt, but that's all some this & that? So how does Hyder taking power is oh all so so wrong, why exactly? I have top "Hindu" researchers researching Hyder, do you wanna talk to them and see what they have to say? Do you how Hyder ruled in the name of the king even though he didn't need to. They could've wiped then out like Wodeyars did to Kempegowdas, what was stopping them? Convenient covering up of history!? You wanna talk to.Prof. Nanjaraj urs the researcher who's from the royal family itself? Do you think they have such biased ideas about Hyder family? They don't. Finally if Hyder hadn't taken Mysore throne English wouldn't have conquered Mysore? Why not exactly? When they took the whole of India and also places that were never traditional India why will they leave Mysore? What kinda alternate history is this? More like, convenient logic. They took Jhansi and Kittur though they didn't have any rights and issues with them, why will they leave Mysore. They in fact took Mysore away from Wodeyars in 1831 and ruled it for 50 years and gave it back under public pressure only in 1881. So real Mysore Kingdom is from only from 1881 not from 1800... Don't twist history and culture to suit personal agendas. Respect all communities... 🙏🏻

Kempegowda maha prabhugalu built Bengaluru. Mysore Maharajaru made it into what it is today. Migrants come & go like fair weather birds that they are but only a true Kannadiga could be loyal & forever proud of his Kannada ancestors & their selfless sacrifice.

Great content. This should have been in our history books. Entire India knows Bengaluru as the IT hub but it's really more than that. I am from kolkata, I have been staying in Bengaluru for the past 6 years. One thing I must say that the natives of Bengaluru are much more welcoming and tolerant than the natives of my own home state.

Also There is lot of contribution from mudhliar community, they contributed schools , chinnswamy stadiums there is pla There is burial tomb Sri VC Chinnaswamy Mudaliar his wife Rukmani Ammal still to this place it is present, it is at Banswadi /HRBR layoyt Bornin 1880, Most of the lands around kammanhall and kalyanagar was owned by them The tomb has inscription of Sri V.C. Ruckmani Amal Many would know kammnhally by now who stay in bangalore , I was born in this area and grew up swam in hennur lakes near by manyata :-)

If your name is Aneesh in Hindi or any language.. you will call Aneesh same as in English language also.. bocz that is the Name. So if you say /pronounce ಬೆಂಗಳೂರು in Kannada.. you should say same as Bengaluru in English also.. So You cannot change the pronunciation as you like .. bocz that is Jus the Name.. Not a any language word's.. pls think as educated.. and stop calling/write/pronunciation as Bangalore. And respect our Kempegowda 👑

Fun fact - wadiyar linage still exist and still are considered as Kings of Mysore by locals but all the mysore kings are adopted since they have curse from alamelamma who was a queen when Mysore ruler took her land she cursed that wadiyars that the king would not have children so the kings adopt children's and this is still continuing the present King of Mysore Yaduveer Krishnadatta Chamaraja Wadiyar is also adopted

Finally someone speaks about our beloved Bangalore ❤️ , I knew some of these history but not this much , why haven’t we learn about these magnificent history of Bangalore in history, I was a state syllabus student born in Bangalore, grown in Bangalore, studied in Bangalore, never ever read this in our history books 💔. Heard about all south kings and their achievements, but this never !. This needs to be teached next generation ❤️‍🔥

You missed the rule of the Gangas of Bengaluru represented in some of the Veeragallus around Hebbal. Also the cholas were here too and left a plaque in the Kashi Vishwanatha temple in Kadugodi

True! I chose not to focus on the earlier history of the Bengaluru area since there isn't as much recorded history, and I wanted to focus more on the story of the city as we know it today.

@@anichebhargav There is a lot of research material that you can find around. There is an organisation that takes care of collecting Veera Gallus from all over Bengaluru and recording what happened. You have to get in touch with them. You just touched upon Roman coins in Yeshwanthpur. That was all about the 2000 year history of Bengaluru that you briefly touched upon. Roman coins were found in more than one place in Bengaluru. It would be good if you did a separate video on the 1500 year period before Kempegowda. Also the clan of Kempegowda migrated to Yelahanka from a village in Tamil Nadu - somewhere near Salem and Dharmapuri ( there are still a lot of native Kannadigas who live in those regions till today). Again please do another video from 1 CE till Kempegowda

One additinal info .... Sambhaji had left his teritory & had arrived in "Bhagyanagar" but his cooks were not accompsnying him. Bhagyanagar chief was worried as to how to treat Sambhaji for food. His cooks prepared a new kind of recipe using daal. Sambhaji liked that preparation and praised it openly. ... As a result, this new preparation recipe was named after Sambhaji... and there after, till date is called "Sambhar". This very place "Bhagyanagar" was later captured by Hyder Ali who declared himself a Nawab of that place. After his death, his son Tipu changed the name of Bhagyanagar in the memmory of his father, and today it is known as "Hyderabad"

While you did mention the world famous karaga of tigalarapete,you missed the deity known an mother of Bengaluru ANNAMMA temple of whom is located in the akkipete/majestic area,i personally have a strong belief that to be successful in Bangalore you need the blessings of the deity incharge of this city that we live in,global city/international city/garden City/silicon valley,call it what you may.

Tippu sultan's reign was not as rosy as he portrays it to be, he was a barbaric king, committed a lot of atrocities,the people of Mysore,Mandya,coorg,and banglore etc.., wanted him out. Every other king except kempe gowda, had selfish reasons to keep bangalore in tact, mainly for its infra, economic activity, climate and resources. None of them cared for the people of banglore and Karnataka except kempe gowda.

the fact that all the names of the kings and higher position people are still present in today's streets names, i am inclined to pronounce them properly just to pay my respect to the people of karnataka for keeping their cultural values alive till now. i think i can partially understand why they are soo keen on sign boards not not having their language in it. but not ignoring the fact that i noticed a lot of white people named streets where most of the rich people live.

History of Bengaluru was not only 2000 years old it's even older than 2000 i.e BCE When the greater magadha existed during Ashoka (aka maurya dynasty) there is a place called Dubasipalya ... It's not dubasi it's Dwibashipalya ya nagar.. where Greeks Romans used to settle in those place for translation to our aryavrata languages when India (jambudvipa, Bharat) was called sone ki chidiya and was powerful country in the world unfortunately we lost from 700s due to islamic invasion and European powers bcs of lack of unity of our people
