I also love the irony! I was so happy that they kept the OFA users around to help deal the final blow because, after everything they all went through, they deserved to get one last whack in at the jerk. I particularly find AFO’s begging and crying rich because, while I do believe that he feels the tiniest iota of actual emotion for his brother, it’s definitely not actual love. The guy can’t even own that everything was his fault in the first place, much less apologize for making his brother suffer so much, and instead demands that his sibling not vanish because he still owns him. His relationship with literally anyone ( but especially Yoichi and Tomura) is akin to that of a jealous, abusive ex who doesn’t want to let go of their hold on their victim, and it’s pretty clear that he’d turn around and sink his teeth back in like a vampire at the first chance of him regaining even a tiny bit of power/life given that he tried to pull a body hijacking on Deku right before. AFO may think that his life is pointless without his brother, but he made pretty much the same arguments and claims to love Yoichi back when he was doing things like locking him up and forcing a quirk on him against his will to manipulating his twin into joining him. The guy is a toxic puke of a human, so it’s cathartic to see the people who he hurt most come back to help make sure he’s deader than dead and can’t try to pull anymore body hoping crap and keep his destruction going. I’m not sure where Horikoshi is going with Deku being quirkless after this, but I’m very satisfied at how the OFA users story wrapped up and how AFO went out like the pathetic loser he really is.

That's what I've been thinking. Especially about the whole OFA chain, since I saw someone online talking about how, from a certain angle, it could be seen as a symbol of generational trauma. From one perspective, the whole conflict with AFO can largely be boiled down to an abuser having a decades long shit fit after their victim escaped and fighting to regain control over them, which is...well a whole other level of messed up tragedy. AFO finally dying was sooo cathartic, but Yoichi being sad that he couldn't have done more to help his brother be a decent person was heartbreaking. AFO abused him since they were kids, eventually murdered him in cold blood, killed his (possibly only) two friends who saved his life, and even went as far as to totally wipe his one friend's bloodline out of existence because he was that petty over someone seeing his twin as an individual person with desires of his own and having the gall to help him escape AFO's control. All that, and Yoichi STILL loved his brother and was upset over how messed up the whole thing was and wished it could have gone differently. Still an epic end to the "demon lord" but it really is sad when you think about basically everything that came before the modern day hero society at the start of MHA. Sorry for the rant LOL! You just hit the nail on the head for some of the things I've been thinking about.

Even sadder is that the abuse was probably the only way All for one could show his love. From birth he was basically a force of nature killing anything that didn't help him exept Yoichi because it was somthing that he didn't have to steal from others. All for one embraced becoming a villain to have a ture ooutlet for his malice but in reality all he really wanted was Yoichi by his side because the base brotherly love existed. As All for one saw compassion as weakness he had to cope to himself that he didn't actually care about Yoichi even though that was his whole goal. Killing Yoichi was somthing he regretted maybe bot truly out of guilt or kindness but because he lost his motivation. We saw that being the most hated villain wasen't what All for one actually wanted but it was simply to have his brother with him. Because All for one was completley sociopathic he had no healthy way to express this witch ultimately led to his downfall. While Yoichi condemd his brothers atrocius actions he didn't truly hate him because the brotherly bond still held the two together. The one time both brothers where truly happy was when they read comics together but this also awoke All for ones villanous ambition. All for one while irredemable because of his many crimes was not a monster or demon he was simply a lonley man who could not truly love as he chose to walk down the path of evil. He had embraced becoming evil both because he truly belived that he wanted it but also because he knew little else. At the end both brothers where put to rest and the demon lord would hopefully not threathen the world in any way anymore.

I rewatched season 2 and your comment was on the top of my mind Rekt. The story really is sooo much more depressing than the epic story version of “quirkless little brother started a legacy of heroes” that All Might initially gave! Like, yeah, OFA did become a chain of heroes fighting for the good of humanity, but it began with A.) a genuinely decent person being abused by their possessive sibling and B.) Three friends who wanted to stop an insane monster of a person but were unable to do much besides get brutally killed. The whole thing did start with Yoichi’s sense of justice and him genuinely wanting to stop him brother from killing people… but he didn’t even know he had OFA in the first place and subconsciously ended up passing it on to his best friend when he was violently murdered because his desire to stop his brother was just THAT strong; like, it was kind of a fluke, in a sense. It’s so sad compared to All Mights simplified origin story on it’s own, but then Kudo wanted to honor his friend’s memory by taking down AFO with the power he got from him…and he and Bruce just ended up getting brutally killed, too. It only became the whole “ultimate superpower of good” legacy because the three of them couldn’t stop AFO, and even that legacy is far less cool when you realize it boils down to “living a very short life of constant fighting, where everyone you love is a target and you will eventually die an early and gruesome death.” I mean, I do see and LOVE the beauty in it; the power of good, selflessness, justice, and love for your fellow humans will always win in the end, and truly good people never really die or lose, even if their physical bodies are gone and it takes decades for what they started to finish; it’s very uplifting and classic superhero content and I personally love those sorts of stories because they give me hope! But it’s still sad as heck. At least it’s over now and everyone can finally rest in some much deserved peace.

I mostly agree with you, but Im not of a fan of using the term “love” to describe AFOs feelings for Yoichi. Yes, they are as close to genuine as someone as twisted and awful as him can get, and the desire to have the attention of both the entire world and his brother forever were his true desires. But even then, it’s still toxic, selfish, and harmful; I don’t consider that to actually be love. The guy does genuinely want to be with his brother forever, but even when they’re together for the last time he refers to him as BELONGING to him and is focused on not wanting him to go because he feels like HE needs him. Like, he still sees Yoichi as something he owns and can control, and he doesn’t have an ounce of remorse for the stuff he did to him or even attempt to apologize. He’s just upset that he didn’t get what he wanted and has no control over the situation. it is sad that AFO was born a toxic, awful person and genuinely can’t feel normal emotions and stuff, but I feel zero sympathy for the guy. He’s a total monster and, even though he feels “like nothing” without his brother, his impulse is still “steal, kill, destroy, dominate” and he STILL is willing to posses other people’s bodies to do so and he’d keep finding a way to come back if he wasn’t completely annihilated. I do think his ultimate demise was a pretty heartwarming way to go out, though, since he got to die with his brother. Yoichi is a far better person than I’d ever be able to be to still love his brother and choose to vanish with him so AFO isn’t alone in his final moments.

I’ve been going through and watching reviews for my favorite MHA chapters and I’m so lucky it made this video come up for me! It’s insane that this series came out when I was a junior in HS and is now getting to its end. The training arc where the OFA ghosts were introduced was where I jumped in with the manga when I began reading it every week religiously, So I’ve always been interested in them for some reason. And, even though I’m now officially a grown-arse woman compared to the teen I was, Yoichi is still my favorite character even though he isn’t all that “cool” compared to all the other crazy characters and is basically a powerless version of Deku (according to people on the internet…this is one of the first times I’ve had the guts to comment anything on anything MHA or anime related online because…honestly other fans online scare me and I’ve seen way more gross fan comments and stuff than I ever wanted to see and usually just avoid comment sections and discussion boards in favor of talking to my IRL friends who like the same fandoms I do) I guess my Autistic, hyperfiaxtion-prone brain just always has an odd taste in anime guys? But, seriously, I think that there should be a prequel series about the OFA users and how society used to be in the past because there are so many stories to be told there! Kudo, Bruce, and Yoichi were around since the literal beginning of things going to hell and I want to know more about the resistance specifically and also society back then, we have no idea how society eventually managed to get back on its feet or how exactly the hero system was established, and Banjo and En seem cool but we know barely anything about them or their stories. Honestly, one of the most entertaining questions to me is how the heck Shinomori and Banjo managed to meet and hit it off to the point that Banjo got OFA. Even though he was dying, Shinomori still had more leeway to choose someone than the others who basically got to be like ‘crap…I’m dead’ and pass it to the nearest trustworthy person. Considering that Banjo is so over the top and Shinomori wasn’t a people person at all, I’m sure their friendship was something, especially given how Banjo was chasing Shinomori and trying to troll him while everyone is filling in Deku on him being the last user. Sorry for the rant, but I truly enjoyed this video and am in the process of now watching some of your other ones on series I like. I just wanted to leave a comment because, as I mentioned…the internet when it comes to discussing this stuff scares me and I only got the guts to start looking at manga chapter reviews in the last few days, and I truly love your content, voice, and the presentation of your videos, so I feel a bit less scared to actually share my thoughts. I actually found a way for one for all to still exist.And that is when izuku becomes a father,his son would inherit a weaker version of ofa.But he wouldn’t realise it until his son enters ua by destroying a giant robot (which is worth 500 points) with two hands but didn’t break his arms

The concept of the vestiges resemble that of the relationship between Recca and the past Hokages in Flame of Recca, right down to there being exactly eight previous users resulting in the protagonist having eight powers (One For All is formed from two Quirks - the power stockpiling Quirk and Quirk-transferring Quirk - and by Midoriya's time there are six additional Quirks inside it, each from the Second to the Seventh users).

One thing I wish the plot talked more about was the revelation of One for All to the outside world. For most of the story All Might felt the power was best kept a secret from the world, even among most heroes. Yet when the power does get revealed we hardly see any negative fallout. Nobody even questions All Might about his power. If people were going to be so accepting of the power why even have its secret as a plot device. Sounds like a contrivance to be honest.

Something that doesn't quite add up with this. At the beginning it said it's been 200 years ever since emergence of quirk. But how long each wielder hold it doesn't add up to that number 1. 4th is the 2nd longest to hold it 18 years, and all might for 40 years. 2. If that's the case if 2nd to 7th excluding 4th hold it for 17 years (which I doubt it's that long) result in 85 years. 3. 85 + 58 = 143 years. Yoichi must be in his 50s almost 60 when he was dead which is ridiculous. And that's the best scenario, if the others hold it much shorter his age would be even older.

Bro imagine if in the movie it was meant for bakugo to actually keep the quirk. Making him the 10th user would’ve been hella crazy! Like we spend 4 seasons watching deku and we are thinking “yeah he’ll become the greatest hero and all that” then outta nowhere his “best friend” suddenly becomes the main character! Bakugo now bearing the burden of OFA woulda been crazy. It was dekus dream to be a hero now bakugo has to be the hero deku was supposed to be.

Ok so can we talk about how these hardened growths on All for One's and One for All's mother are highly reminiscent of Eri's quirk? At he same time no one knew about quirks or how they worked since they were born before the first documented quirk and no one knew how to train people to use them properly without causing damage to themselves or others? So it's just speculation, but what if Eri was actually their mother who reversed her own time far enough she was reincarnated as Eri to Overhaul in order to try to save both of her children? I know it sounds dumb, but do you guys think it might be possible?
