As a life long ducktales fan ive only recently got into the duck comics. I grew up watching ducktales so when the new version came out it it was an opportunity to share it with my 5 year old son. I loved that we were able to enjoy watching them together and when it ended we were both sad but myself more because It was something we did together and something we both enjoyed equally. So I picked up the ducktales comics as a way to continue sharing this passion with my son. Those comics weren't that great but eventually this brought me to carl barks and then to don rosa. We've read all the old ducktales comics i could find, and we've just started carl barks but I'm waiting to get to the life and times of scrooge until I've purchased one of these beautiful editions. I've watched pretty much every video out there about this beautiful fantagraphics edition and the other 2 part edition. I really want to buy this and i'm absolutely in love with this edition, but im afraid the size of this might be a little to unwieldy for my son to handle. Ideally I'd like to buy this beautiful copy for me and the 2 part set for my son, but I dont think I can't afford that lol. Or I would love to buy the cheaper 2 part edition now and this beautiful copy later when times are better but I'm worried they may not be in print forever in these formats. So I have a few questions if I was just going to buy one copy. From what i gather, the 2 part fantagraphics edition has matte finishing on the pages, (yes?) which i think might be better fit with reading to my son because he's probably not going to be as delicate as I will and usually glossy pages tend to bend and crease quickly and those creases show. Omar mentions this is a thick glossy stock page, how thick is it? The only other expensive comic I own is the absolute all star superman and my son looked through that book twice and its got a bunch of little creases and bends and other imperfections from him looking through it just a couple times. Is the stock of the pages of this beautiful magnum opus edition the same quality I can expect from an ABSOLUTE edition comic? Does anyone know how long either edition will be in publication for? Do you think this large edition would be something easy to hold up while lying down in bed next to him? And damnit why do they have to be so beautiful to make me want to buy both?

I knew the ending of the main story, so as I sat with my dying mom the other night I ordered this book. It seemed appropriate as an analogy to all the great times we shared. She died hours later. The book arrived today. It is incredible. Omar, your channel over the last few years has helped to provide me with a fun distraction from having to deal with both parents slowly dying. Thank you.

RIP to your Mom. I read these comics when I was 7-12 years old, then stopped; when the Life and Times series came out, I was about 16, and picked them up again. I was going through hard times. It made me relive the wonder. A few years later (2003), I started buying them regularly--every issue, until they stopped publishing new ones a few years ago--and have bought all the specials, and all the back issues from 1986 onward that I missed (I am now slowly buying the originals). Something about what you wrote, tying the comics in with personal feelings of loss, really spoke to me. Thanks for sharing.

One of the best comic book stories ever made! Fun fact: Don is extremely big in Greece and the greek edition of The Life and Times of Scrooge McDuck has been out of print for years now, after the publisher who owned Disney rights in Greece closed down and the rights were passed to another publisher (who doesn't really care that much). As a result, there are people selling it for prices as high as that fantastic new Fantagraphics edition and other people who actually buy it at those prices, it's insane.

I live there and I've been trying to find the greek edition of Life and times for ages now. seems like literally no one sells it. Do you know anywhere I'll be able to find it? Maybe a greek e-shop or something with a lower price? The smallest prize I've Found it is 150 euros. It would be extremely helpful if you knew:)

It all went down after Don Rosa had some beef with the publisher and then the company itself shut down and the rights went to new one. I loved that community... It looks very nice! And yes, Don Rosa is a superstar in Europe, especially in Scandinavia. (As you can see in the title pages, most of these stories were published in the Danish and Finnish Donald Duck magazines.) They've released the collected works of both Rosa and Barks in slightly smaller cloth-bound volumes in Sweden, but this one looks tempting!

In Germany the "Entenhausen" Comics are the most sold comics of them all. There is no Place were you can buy newspapers without at least a few volumes of the "lustiges Taschenbuch" which is a monthly publication since 1967.

Hey Omar, now that you're mentioning this, did you know that there's a soundtrack called Music Inspired by The Life and Times of Scrooge McDuck? It's composed and written by Nightwish composer Toumas Holopainen, who was so inspired by the stories here he made a soundtrack dedicated to it. I encourage you and everyone here to get it, and listen to it while reading this. It'll compliment the book so well. Especially listen to Track 9 which is a crown jewel of a song and the theme of the story. If this series was ever animated, tell me this soundtrack wouldn't compliment it perfectly.

Just a hint... if my sources are correct they are going to release an english version of "Azimut" by Wilfrid Lupano and Jean-Baptiste Andreae in march 2022. Don't let that one go under the radar. It's fantasy, might not be your thing... but the artwork is absolutely incredible.

So other than size there really is no difference between the library edition and this edition correct? Only a few pages of exclusive fluff content. Hmm... For the price of this I can by 4 or 5 volumes of the library editions which Don personally prefers. I'll have to think on it.
