“Ever since I was a baby people said I look like Bojack Horseman” “That’s a terrible thing to say to a baby!” Is probably my favourite exchange in this whole show.
Todd is so much smarter than people realize, when he realized that Bojack was a horrible friend and had slipped up too many times, he set a boundary between himself and Bojack and was able to achieve so much more success once he didn’t have Bojack there holding him back. He was aware when him and Yolanda didn’t actually have anything in common and then acted accordingly and appropriately. Even though he was used as comic relief most of the time, he showed us how important setting boundaries and taking care of yourself can be.

It’s honestly tiring especially when it comes to gay and bisexual in media characters but this series executed writing Todd well.

Bojack being a fictional character is specifically written by real life people who already don’t hate ase people. It would’ve been more consistent of character writing, and more realistic of a person like Bojack in my opinion, to consciously refuse to understand Todd being asexual. It would’ve really hurt to see, obviously, because Todd is a really great character who deserves better than that, but it was another thing they could’ve added to the list of things Bojack would’ve had to make up for by the end of the series.

@that_deadeyegamer79203 жыл бұрын
That's what pissed me off about Todd. He's a hypocrite. Most times then not (I cannot stress enough I said *most* Bojack has fucked up lives before) Bojack wasn't screwing up other people lives, he's just a person with very toxic habits/thought patterns that, as easy as it is to say "well he should change", it's kinda of hard to change something you were raised with no matter how internet tough you are, you'll always have a few habits from your childhood. Now, while Todd isn't as bad as Bojack, regardless he's incredibly immature, naive and optimistic to a fault almost like PB. Yet he's the "hero" for basically using his friend as a roof over his head while repeatedly getting himself into dumb, avoidable situations then has the balls to try to "tell him off" once he no longer needs Bojack anymore. It's like a shitty kid telling their shitty parent that they're a bad person just because they didn't make the same *exact* mistakes. It's a weird "I'm bad but I'm not THAT bad" kind of high horse mentality

@@that_deadeyegamer7920 I disagree Todd has never got into that much trouble from his actions alone. The most notable consequence were his businesses shutting down. And every time he got into trouble he got himself out of it, he fought the sueing from Disney, and he stayed in prison for the money laundering (which was more PC’s fault than his own) the main difference between todd and bojack was that todd got himself (or the narrative got him out of) most of his troubles without being down everyone else. The whole time Todd lived with bojack bojack was shot to him and todd just took the abuse. Todd had every right to call him out as he’s the person that bojack was consistently shitty to for years. And that call out moment was when he decided not to stay there anymore. Just because you’ve done bad stuff doesn’t mean you don’t get to call out people that are being terrible to you and it doesn’t make you a hypocrite. Todd never acts like he’s a holy person but he does consistently try to be good and puts his friends needs before his own. Todd is the most selfless character is bojack and he had every right to call out bojack on his bad behavior especially when that behavior affected a friendship he just rekindled and really cherished.

I thought it was realistic aswell that that he was uncomfortable with labels at first, he wasn’t sure it was correct at first- when he came out to bojack he was uncertain, but he came out to him, he didn’t want it to be a big thing and although the way bojack spoke to him put me off I think one of the good things he did as he was so supporting of him. When he went to the asexual meeting he learned more about it, he realised that was who he was and there was nothing wrong with that - he then became way more comfortable and more confidently spoke about his asexuality. I like the fact that the show also included different types of asexuality- and it showed that being asexual doesn’t mean you don’t deserve love and a romantic relationship (if that’s what you want). It literally made me so happy when he moved in with Maude and they got into a relationship together, they are the perfect match, they respect each others boundaries and their overall just a good fit together. I do hate a lot though how constantly the characters looked down on Todd and didn’t treat him with respect a lot of the times. All though he didn’t do much when any of the characters needed something he always came running. He was useful, he was kind and a nice person, he is the most innocent person in this show. He has literally done nothing wrong intentionally, the only times when he had a bitter tone was when he argued with bojack but I was SO GLAD, everyone looked down on him, he was finally standing up for himself and setting boundaries which was amazing as usually he just let everyone walk over him. I’d totally watch a spin off of this man Another note, Kelsey love of Todd was amazing and such a cute sort of side gag. Love her too (she was treated so bad)

Todd is literally my absolute favorite character. I started out not liking him. The vibes were off. But the more we saw of him, the more endearing he became. And it’s amazing to see some ace rep bc it’s so rare to see. I love him.

Todd reminded me a lot of Eric Mattews from Boy Meets World, in the later seasons. How Eric was seen as the joke character but when you take a step back and analyze him you see how profound of a person he actually was. Both had high levels of emotional intelligence but weren't the smartness, willing to take risks and endure hardships but not without having limits.

Todd and Yolanda's story unfortunately rings true to many LGBTQ+ people in real life. I myself am an LGBTQ+ individual (lesbian demisexual) and I have always had this fear that I'll never find anyone. Growing up in a rural small town, I didn't know many LGBTQ+ people in real life, and after I moved to university and did meet others in the pride community, getting into relationships was really hard, because I've instilled this belief that because there are very few people for me to actually have relationships with (statistically speaking, only around 3% of the total population here in the UK identifies as lesbian, gay or bi according to a 2020 survey), I feel like I don't have a right to complain and just have to settle for whatever is available, even if that person isn't right for me, or I'm not right for them. I have started relationships with other women simply because we're both lesbians, but they've never gone anywhere too serious because besides our sexualities, we had very little in common or weren't compatible at all. To add onto that, me being demisexual is a hurdle for most people. Demisexuality is a microlabel of asexuality where an individual doesn't feel sexual attraction until an emotional bond has been formed. It's possibly one of the things that Emily was referring to when she said that "some asexuals do have sex". In my experience, I find it physically impossible to feel sexual attraction to someone or grasp the concept of 'sexiness' until I've known/dated someone for a while and I've reached a point with them where I feel emotionally attached enough to find them sexually appealing as well, because it does happen, but only with people I've dated for a while, never to someone who I've just met or simply seen in passing. I guess for me it's more about trust and strong emotional attraction over pure lust, which is also cool, just not for me. That emotional bond can take varying amounts of time to form, like I've reached that emotional bond with someone in the first 3 months of dating, but in a different relationship it took almost a year. And a lot of potential partners don't want to wait that long to have sex, which I respect and understand. But it's just another specific about me that makes me feel like I'm somehow undateable, so I have a bad tendancy to latch on to and settle with whoever is willing to give me the benefit of the doubt so to speak, even if we're not right for each other. One day, I hope to have what Todd and Maude have: someone who genuinely loves me and wants a fun relationship with me without the entirety of the relationship being dependant on physical intimacy

tbh i skimmed through what u wrote but what i can say is that you deserve to have options. same with me im trans in a small town in cali and there aren’t rlly many people ljke me here. ofc there are but i see that the only thing we have in common is beinf trans. i feel no sexual attraction and even romantic attraction f sometimes. i feel like a total asshole for blowing off these nice people but at the same time i donr want to hurt them in rhe long run. i had to learn and adapt with thst bur also remind myself that i deserve to have standards and not just get what i can get my hands on because there aren’t a lot of people like me where i live. i dont know you at all and im pretty sure i will never talk to you again but genuinely i hope thr best for you. tonight wasn’t the best and not beinf able to shower really did ir jn for me and your comment broke me lol im crying as i type. i wish you luck on your journey random people commenting under a bojack vid!

One thing I noticed no one talks about is Bojack and Todd's footprints along the beach in the finale get washed away as they reconcile. It seems like the animators way of saying that they're starting fresh, and the good times and the bad times behind them are being forgotten for new fruit to emerge.

Something that makes me oddly happy as an asexual person, is that Todd seems to be sex repulsed. Most representation I've seen of asexuals tend to go down the path of "They're asexual, but they still have sex." Which is very true. A lot of asexuals will still have sex, they just don't crave it. But my problem is it starts to become a baseline. I barely see representation of ace's who just simply do not engage in sex, like myself.
