The Terrasaur long pre-dates the Gardberg as a custom knife. I purchased my Terrasaur as a Joe Flower's/Brian Andrews (Off the Map Outfitters) back in the early 2000's. At that time mora's were restricted to the companion, clipper and usual rat tang knives. The Condor Terrasaur is a descendant of the custom knife. Since Joe Flowers is a main designer from Condor it seems like this one was a natural for him to incorporate. I still have my custom Flowers/Andrews knife and it remains one of the best handles I've ever experienced. The Condor terrasaur seems a bit difficult to locate in Canada, it is made of much cheaper materials (like most Condor's) but I bet the grip is good.

Its a budget-minded, Garberg-inspired knife. Got it. But...where else can you get these features for so little money? Carbon steel, Scandi grind, 1/8" blade stock, full tang, square spine, hunting style blade geometry, blade edge all the way to handle, comfortable weatherproof handle, sheath included. Given that it isnt a direct copy of the Garberg, it is definetly a welcome addition to the market, especially at that price point. If Condor can refine and improve thier manufacturing processes, they would be unbeatable.

Yes, Mora is more refined, and yes, Condor sought a very close resemblance to Mora. Nevertheless, Mora is about $100, and the Condor is less than $50. Lastly, I like the idea of helping our neighbors to the south with employment. Therefore, the Condor is what I'm going to buy

Exactly, I like both of them, I couldn't afford a garberg back in April so instead I ordered a puukko knife from Finland an man,this thing rocks,rock solid 80crv2 carbon steel, hrc is a 65 I believe, spine thickness is 4mm thick, drop point style an a scandi grind, 5.5 Inches of blade,it's like a mora or mora garberg on steroids, they also have a stainless steel too, 34.99 for the knife an then I also paid 30.00 for a badass leather dangler sheath, still sharp too

Just got mine and the finish is a lot better than his. Its not bad for 40. It looks cool, but could have a better finish. The edge geometry on mine looks alright but there's a big burr on the edge straight out of the box. I would compare it to the cold steel finn hawk or kansbol. You cant rlly compare it to the full tang mora that is 2x the price. However, just based on the edge geometry and looks, i like the condor more

No one is going to truly compete head-to-head with Mora. They have a lock on the market for this kind of broad-spectrum survival/primitive/bushcraft skills knife that covers most of the bases, and at the price point ($90-$140). It's the king. There will be those competing for that market, and Condor is in a position to do so with a lower price point. If I were buying a blade for my ten-year-old to use and learn, the Terrasaur is a good place to start. You don't buy a Ferrari for a beginner. I'd feel better about a broken Terrasaur than a broken Garberg. Again, it's competition but not the winner, and you'll always have competition.

My take away from this is that there is definitely more quality control that goes into the garberg than the terrasaur. However it could just be condor rushing to get theirs on the market with quality control to come later. I say this because having seen and used several different condor models, they seemed pretty solid. You also have to look at the price. 100 bucks for the mora vs 50 for the condor. The condor, while it might not be on par with mora seems functional and solid enough to provide a cheaper entry level knife option for someone new getting into this world **bushcraft, survival, self reliance** that is on a limited budget. The 50 bucks saved by purchasing the condor would allow for additional gear purchases that they might not otherwise have been able to get had they purchased the mora. Anyways just my two pennies.....but I love the videos...you keep em coming, I’ll keep learning

3 Reasons why i use the Condor instead of the Mora Garberg [used the Stainless Garberg and other Moras for 10+years] which are NOT price : 1. Fit to my own hand...the condor was a better fit an feel for me. PLUS: nearly every knife with a high guard i filed down to a slope to the flat side of the blade for some carving techniques. That wasn't necessary with the Condor. 2. The tip of the Condor has a steeper angle...that was important for "drilling" holes and archery/stomping to get the arrows out...works with both knifes,...but much better with the Condor. 3. I could order the Condor in orange. Lost one to many knife around campsites. These are my reasons....the Condor is the better knife for me. The price only is a bonus. Additionally for all the lefties (not me) out there...You can rotate the sheath of the Condor but not the Mora. But I also agree on the superior production quality of the Mora. I think thats due to more production automation + quality control. I also like the leather sheath option of the Mora.

My terrasaur came without manufacturing defects. It was cleanly processed and had no signs of glue residue. The hole was centrally drilled. Your knife must have been a Monday model. First I love mora as well I have several but I have experience with several condors. First thing that many have stated is the price personally I have always felt the garberg was way overpriced but that's me. As far as being a clone I truly believe that's due to the sheath. The actual and original terrasaur has been in several custom designes for years and the designer wanted to make a budget friendly option. Personally I think it really comes down to price and that's it.

Making your own version of a classic in order to compete with it is neither a "knock-off" nor a "bootleg." Knock-offs are trying to make you think they ARE the original object (like Chinese i-phons), and bootlegs are illegally obtained or sold versions of the actual original product (like illegally recorded and sold copies of actual movies). Just think of how many Swiss Army-type knives are out there. Are Victorinox and (I can't remember the other "official" brand) the only companies morally or legally allowed to make knives with tools in them? There is nothing unique enough about the Garberg for Mora to claim any kind of infringement. If another company can make a similar thing and charge half the price, that's just means that Mora should have found a way to make theirs less expensive. I would buy the Condor over the Mora, because the only flaw of the Condor *as far as practical use* is the smaller amount of material around the tang. I don't generally baton small and mid-sized knives, though, so I'll gladly save 50 bucks on fit and finish issues. If they were competing in price, I'd go Mora, but for half the cost there's no competition for me. [Edited for spelling]

Mora Garberg better? Sure it is! But,,,,,, the Terrasaur is half the cost....Heck!! Compared to Bark River, the Mora is lacking.... It all depends on the balance needed, and the price one is willing to pay for it. I would trust both in an emergency. However, I would be cautious of the thin handle spots on the Terrasaur for baton work. Knowing that ahead of time makes this a non issue for me. Is the Terrasaur worth $42?? Absolutely!! Is the Garberg worth $100?? Definitely!! Long term,,, I'll keep my Bark Rivers...

Moras are made by robots. Condor is made by hand. It looks like Joe and Imacasa are banking on a design they made in 2009, before the Garberg was designed with Dave and Mora. Joe probably didn't trust it to be made out of 1075 (you can tell by the tip profiles), and Imacasa couldn't afford to introduce a new heat treat process. Imacasa only started using 1095 a couple years ago. If they treat it as well as they do their '75, I'm sure it will perform as well as the Garberg.

Stand down dude. The comparison in the video was between Terrasaur and a Morakniv that cost twice as much, and that was the comparison on which I commented. Also if your life literally depends on your knife - which frankly sounds pretty melodramatic - maybe you're selling yourself just a bit short at $60. If you have actually used both knives and can speak to the respective pros and cons then by all means make a video and share your wisdom with the rest of us.

I appreciate the demonstration as I've got to bring myself up to speed in the knife world, and admit I know very little,...over 60 years of camping, hunting, trapping and fishing and my knowledge and budgets have limited me to old school folding buck knifes, Schrade pocket knifes, and a couple of old hickory butcher knifes from the early sixties that came from second hand stores years ago that I tweaked a bit and used for fixed blade hunting knifes, but a renewed and invigorated interest in survival and prepping is forcing me to catch up with the times.....thanks for the video.

Mr Kelly , I guess the old saying holds true. "You get what you pay for". The Condor is half the price of the Mora but I'm sure it'll hold up to any job that the Mora can handle. By nit picking the small things like the size of the lanyard hole or the glue around the edges is not really an issue , you make adjustments. I highly respect your opinions and love the videos that you make. I think that you're being a bit harsh on the Condor though. It may be a " knockoff " but for the price I think it's right on the money cuz not everybody can afford to buy a Mora Garberg. Keep the videos coming and remember , " Adapt , Improvise & Overcome ". Semper Fi !

I think you're both right. There are a lot of knife snobs these days. Has to be crucible steel etc. Truth is, in the right hands either of these knives would perform. Id take practice and knowledge and a Mora over a box full of high dollar knives that will only ever cut paper lol.

Are we really doing the whole copy/ripoff/clone thing? Knives can't share some basic features anymore? The Garberg and Terrasaur are both scandi ground with injection molded handles with a protruding tang. Those are the only similarities people.

Mora has the business of building knives down to a fine art. They know where to spend the time/money to make a good product and where they can cut back and meet their price point. As far as Condor copying the Garberg ... I don't think so. Good design is good design and different people working independently on a specific task are likely to come up with very similar results. Even if the Terrasaur was designed to compete with the Garberg, the real danger here is that someone who is online or catalog shopping isn't able to hold both in their hands and compare. They can't see the difference in fit & finish and may not realize what they're giving up to save a few bucks. Quality and workmanship is important and Mora seems to be aware of that. Thanks for the honest review.

This is kind of common with Condors. I have a few and they all have some cosmetic flaws. The catch here is they used to be relatively cheap, which was ok if they functioned well. For a bit now, their prices have gone up and for the price it's getting harder to justify the cosmetic deficiencies.

Condor is not exactly known for being high quality. That said, a couple weeks ago I picked up the Condor Bushlore with Micarta scales. The fit and finish on the knife is good. I did have to spend an hour sharpening it, but it has proven to be a really good knife. Regarding this comparison it really comes down to the old cliche, you get what you pay for. I personally think for $100 there's better options out there than the Mora Garberg, but others would completely disagree with me. I just don't like over mold handles, I think they're cheap and prone to wearing out before the blade does. Your experience with them may be better.
@greekveteran2715
@greekveteran2715 2 жыл бұрын
You're right about those handles. The steel also doesn't last on these kind of knives and that's why they are cheap, it's the overall cheaper materials that don''t last, as they would last on a custom or semicustom knife for example.

I can see that the bladedesign of the Terrasaur can have an advantage for some carving tasks...but that´s about it. I would probably choose a Mora Bushcraft black over the Condor as well, if price was an issue. I think its kind of embarrasing that Condor can´t provide better quality finish for 42$, than Mora can at 20$!

Outstanding, Thanks for highlighting the finer points regarding the Condor clone, from a practical point of view it might do the same job, but for how long, from an aesthetic viewpoint it doesn't look very pretty right out of the box, so its sure to fail on all accounts once its been in service a while, what a shame, like they say you get what you pay for.

For a low cost option that will get people out there, I believe the terrasour has the garberg beat. It may not be pretty, but compared to the average knife in that price range it really soars above the rest. However, that doesn't take in the rest of the mora line up which includes the bushcraft and legendary companion. It's at least worth a gander.

It's not a matter of beauty, it's a matter of quality. Fit and finish on a knife has nothing to do with looks, these are tools not fashion models. Fit and finish on a knife is, as it should be, a serious indication of quality.

I got one and very happy with it. No,....I'm not easily pleased either. I work out in the country all day everyday and put knives through it, above and beyond any normal person. I do more than just making sparks from a ferro rod, cutting a piece of para cord before re-oiling the blade and neatly putting it away until it's next adventure. As well as working in the Forrest and fields, I also practice bushcraft so a knife has to work for me. Mora are good and was using them some 12 years ago. But for $50 id take the Condor all day everyday and 3 times on a Sunday😉 I can beat it, loose it, find it and clean of the rust, sharpen it on a rock, chuck it in the back of the van, chop with it... The list just goes on and on. Would I want to do the same with a $100 Mora,.... Not really because they both will do the same. I do think that your a little biased because of your pathfinder connection, this is fine with me if you feel the need promote one knife over another.....But I do make my own decisions based on years of experience not weekend wanderers making a camp fire and cutting cord and fish line. ( That's not a reference to you Corporal ) This knife is certainly not going to fall apart 6 months out of its box and if I only get 2 years out of it after full on abuse and use then it will money well spent. Keep doing what you normally do Corporal which is very good, not knife bashing.

I have been abusing my Terrasaur and I love it! I got the black handle version and it is a perfect bushcraft and hunting blade. Been beating on it and it just asks for more. Flint & steel, ferro rods, both are easy to get sparks. Spine as a scraper ☑️. Edge is very easy to sharpen (I have only stropped mine so far) and it is f****** sharp! Using a ranger band allows for the tandem carrying of a ferro rod on the sheath. And I put a strip of gorilla tape on the back that keeps a sail needle secure.

Honestly, for something as critical as a knife I personally wouldn't take a chance on the condor. The price difference simply isn't enough to risk being caught out with inferior equipment, for me. Some items I buy on price but others I'm all in on quality, first and foremost. Thanks for the comparison. I trust in your honesty and straightforwardness on these things.
