Starting a Business: "I had a coach that once told me leaders are people that can stand on nothing and create something."

Underdog Win: "And I remember playing I think when I got the game review back, I think I took 86 snaps that night, and we won 15 to ten."

The Value of Grit: "How can you measure somebody's grit, somebody's heart, whether somebody is always going to be looking to make a play and stand in the gap and not let balls, balls fall on the ground? Is it somebody that's going to say, never going to say, well, that's really not my job and I don't care, so I'm just going to shut down my computer and go home because it's time to go home, when five minutes, that last 10% of excellence takes 500% more effort."
- Jeff Dudan 00:11:5400:12:24
"Success in Business Requires Athlete-like Training": "Athletes train. So when you have athletes, business athletes in your business, they're constantly reading, they're researching on their own, what can I do to give myself an advantage in this project? What can I do to give my company an advantage? They just have this way of kind of like, I know I need four yards to get this first down. Where do I have to be and what do I have to do to create just a little bit of leverage? Football is all about angles and leverage. How do I create a little bit of leverage to move this person in such a way that's going to allow us to get that? And maybe I set that up three or four plays before."

Empathy in Franchising: "My real growth didn't happen until I started joining groups like Vistage, groups like YPO Young President's Organization. And getting out there and realizing that the way that it was really my thinking and the way that I thought about opportunities. I mean, I had strong beliefs held super tightly, and they were absolutely wrong. So being able to get out there and I've almost gone too far with intellectual humility and empathy."

The Power of Franchising: "For me, I can figure something out. Build it, help somebody to help themselves with it, and there can be an economic benefit. For me, that's franchising like, in a nutshell, that's basically what it is."
- Jeff Dudan 00:31:0800:37:22
The Evolution of Technology in Franchising: "And whether it be with technology or call center, things like that. It used to be that the franchiseor really couldn't effectively do any of those. Everything was at the location, the technology wasn't available. So here's a business card. You come to training, we'll see you at convention in a year and send in your reports, send in your money, use our marketing collaterals. And that was a lot of what Franchising was. Maybe they sold some products into it, but it was very much super independent business owners. And then as technology has evolved, the lines have shifted as to who does what."
- Jeff Dudan 00:37:5700:38:37
The Power of Starting: "Just start. Take action immediately. You can talk about it all you want to and you need to think about it, but at the end of the day, you can't fix anything until there's volume running through it. So you need to start doing something, whatever that is."
- Jeff Dudan 00:41:1800:41:32
The Importance of Wisdom and Purpose: "So the book is really about fundamentally the quality of our decisions determines the quality of our life and the velocity of our businesses. Wisdom is a cumulative asset."
