Hi Gabriel , you might be interested , as you asked the question, that the median price of a house in Newtown is $1.8 Million. Those places you passed were actually terrace houses from the 19th century. Newtown was originally mainly small workers cottages and a low socio economic area. Sydney real estate is the second most expensive on earth . Newtown was a slum until about the 1960's . An apartment overlooking Manly beach might start from about $7 million.It's crazy. I bought a house in Newtown in the 1970's and it was a dodgy area then , with squatters and street gangs. Cheapest area I could find. By the way , you should take the Toronga Park ferry to see native animals at the zoo. Leaves from Circular Quay. A trip to Katoomba on the train is a great day trip to see the dividing range, vast forests and take some bush walks. Good food and pubs locally. Safe travels.

Those are some crazy prices. I don't understand how real estate became that level expensive in a country that's 99% empty space. There's no shortage of land and resources in Oz. As opposed to Japan with way more people and way less open land and it's actually cheaper there.

You should get out of the city and see the bush, thats what makes AUstralia unique, as some suggested take the train about an hour out of Sydney to the Blue mountains, also dont make the mistake of just traveling to the large cities, the best parts of Australia are outside the cities in the countryside, such as the smaller coastal towns and the bush

the great thing about Australia is our awnings - which keeps you dry in winter, and protected from the sun in summer. Dodgy building permits sometimes let dodgy people build without the awnings but fortunately this is now required that awnings are build in new buildings as standard in order to get approval. In USA you soo some awning in places like San Fran and Seattle

Hey Gabriel, big fan of yours and fellow backpacker of about 50 countries. I'm from NZ but live in Sydney so it's a pleasant surprise to see you are in town and hope you have enjoyed it. Sydney is a great place to live, with amazing nature and climate all year. If you have time the Blue Mountains is quite spectacular and about 2 hours away. On Sunday the transport fee is capped at $2.50 however it might only be if you used an opal card during the week, just ask a transport staff. Either way the train is an easy and independent way to get up there and it's worth it. If you PM me I would be happy to give you some tips on good tracks / Sydney places, or even NZ if you end up there. Aussies will always say 'mate', so thanks mate for all the inspiring videos. Welcome to the land down under. 🎶

I agree with you. Australia and New Zealand seem like great places to maybe live. Greece is also a favorite destination. The thing that seems to be missing are the street people, the homeless. etc. How can Aussies control things like that, and in our country we are failing? Grafitti is a plague on the world and civilization, in my opinion. Have you seen school kids in Sydney with their cute little blazers and the girls with dresses and sun hats with ribbons? They just seem so "proper" over there. They seem to have a higher standard of life than us unpolished Americans. Have you noticed?

Nowhere is perfect. I’ve extensively lived both in Auckland and Sydney. School uniforms are the norm in many former British colonies, and in my opinion remain one of very few positive and enduring legacies. Many families in Australia live far from their places of work and spend hours traveling. Also, one or both spouses are in secondary employment in order to be able to survive from one pay check to the next. The cost of living in both countries regularly rates highest amongst many other comparable countries. Having said all the above, ik enjoying this Australian series especially in many of the areas I used to frequent. Thank you.

Hi Gabe, The Martin Luther King mural was comparing what he said (“I have a dream”) to traditional First Australians (“Aboriginal”) spiritual culture, known as “the Dreaming”. There are many different First Australians’ cultures,each with their own language, country and “dreaming”. We have the oldest continuous human culture here in Australia, 60-100,000 years of culture right here in Oz. I’m a “whitefella” Australian, 5th Generation, but I am proud of the First Australians (“black fellas”) and their history and traditional ownership. I was born in Newcastle, NSW, Awabakal country.

@sirsillybilly
@sirsillybilly Жыл бұрын
There is no real Aboriginal culture. It’s a manufactured idea from nefarious interests to pit an Us V Them narrative to sow division. For example Welcome to Country ceremonies was manufactured by Ernie Dingo in 80s which was a copy of the Maoris. The Flag is from the 70s replacing the NSW flag (our founding nation state) on the Harbour Bridge. It’s not about empowering Aboriginals but disempowering all Australians, as the Us V them is a newly fomented narrative. One which is easily leaned on by the UN forcing migrants moving en masse who just point the finger and claim ‘racism’ it’s not your land; Ipso Facto its the third worlds, hand over your tax. Of all these languages how many are spoken by a collective. The most is a couple thousand. Language is culture and for all intents there is no culture. All the inner city tick a box so-called Aboriginals ie the majority are opportunists seeking Grants, attention and social credit. They’re all over the radio and tv saying they’re a ‘proud’ Wiradjuri man saying all of two words in a tongue which they thinks constitutes a language or culture. Their culture is far more Weatern ie being a Karen. It’s a farce and most white Australians support this because they have given up their own culture of Christianity and seek to hinge some spiritual connection to this situation which is nothing less than the Emperors new robes. Catholic guilt traversed. As long as you support such you are virtuous and have no fear of being labeled anything. Edit: anyone voting for the Voice to Parliament referendum is voting in a Trojan Horse and will see exactly how this Us V Them narrative is and was always the end goal to break up this nation.

You can actually do a really cool brewery tour around that area! Young Henrys (whose main beer is called "Newtowner"), Grifter, Batch, Bob Hawke's, Mixtape, Philter, Willie the Boatman... They all offer unique craft beers and have a cool vibe!

It's unfortunate (or lucky) you missed out on the heatwave last week. The experience of being a tourist in Oz is having your face burnt off by the sun whilst slightly intoxicated. Newtown is very popular with the young folk on Friday nights and weekends. It was incredibly alternative 20 years ago. It's lost its way a bit but still fun at night. You could describe it in international terms as a university town as it's close to the nearby Sydney University. p.s. the weather at the moment is not at all indicative of Australia. I've been a bus driver - they have to take you on board. Opal card all the way in Sydney.

I'm surprised no one has noticed you or stopped you yet to say Hey Gabe!? .. maybe recognising your that travel guy. I think I could definitely see you walking along surfers at the Gold Coast or just a random hike down through Tassy.

You should get an Opal card when you're in airport. It should cost you around $22 to go to city by train ($5 train fee + $17 airport surcharge). I'm guessing that's where you get your uber from. To avoid airport surcharges, some people get on/off in Mascott, a station away from airport then take bus to and from airport.
