Just what I was looking for! All my years in Karate and other martial arts I always had a challenge controlling my breathing.

Always a great idea to do. One of the best way for me to do it in my dojo is by doing Sanchin and Tensho katas to synchronize movements

I love learning new things about karate on this channel. I haven't been able to practice for a while because of a surgery I had that had to cut my abs. I'm going to finally be able to go back next week.

Interesting visualizations of a ping-pong ball vs a billiard ball in a water column. Another thing is the diaphragm effecting the legs. That's why the lower back & intercostal muscles are important to be strong.

Sir, this has to do with Ki I know, and it's valuable to me as it's sometimes hard to get this sort of thing out of masters. I'm getting it from you and my Aikido Sensei currently. Thank you. I think it takes practice for some to have the feeling of heaviness/ lightness but it's as you know a mental focus just as much as physical alignment.

I thought in Shotokan Kanazawa used 2 types of breathing, one when you breath in your abdomen rises and breath out abdomen contracts. The other is breathing into the mid section, breath in and the sides of the floating ribs expand out to the sides and back of ribcage, breath out and the ribs contract in the opposite direction as air moves out, and use lower abdominal muscles to force all the air out. I think Pilates uses this lateral breathing technique into the mid section, not expanding the abdomen. Is this correct and how does it work in practice

This diaphragmic iliopsoars connection... Is how yogic breathing/qi gong breathing.... Allows ryu and ken to perform the hurricane kick (streetfighter) and the dragon punch, by actually dropping the weight to elevate. When the breath is done correctly a drip of sweat falls of the vertex (of skull) or first eye area... Ideally one needs to sleep while on their feet to intergrate all the nervous systems of the brain/spine and body.... Ie enteric/PSNS and SNS Then this breathing takes a new form, which is usually only imagined in the bold minds of children.

I actually have such a hard time breathing properly doing my Katas, it's my biggest issue, and I do championships. I often find myself completely out of breath before the kata is even over because I don't breathe at all during some segments 😭 I might consider checking out your courses, even though I'm shito-ryu 👀

Breathing is not a stylistic characteristic, so it's 100% beneficial for Shito Ryu too!

Since you are talking about breathing. I am curious about the breathing in some katas such as Sanchin. Some people sound as though they have a really restricted exhale and is quite audible. Furthermore sometimes there is a clicking sound at the end. My Sensei explains this as the diaphragm completely squeezing out all of the air. I am not able to do this. I try I exhale and I contract my abdomen as much as I possibly can but I do not make these weird noises. My questions are, why is there this sound? Is it necessary or the result of reaching a level I have not attained yet in my physical limits? Lastly if this is something to be learned how is it learned and practiced?
@kevionrogers2605 Жыл бұрын
He's a Shotokan instructor, & his style doesn't do Sanchin. I can answer this question, but I advise you to research Goju Ryu Sanchin, & a video by Jesse Encamp on Sanchin. In Goju Ryu we practice reverse breathing as a resistance exercise for the diaphragm. We also do isometric contractions to strengthen the muscles alternate with relaxation. Also we do the kata with dumbbells, resistance bands, kettle bells, leverage bars, weighted jars. There are four different breathing exercises we use the basic is breathing technique for should be to take a deep breath in as you lower the weight and exhale as you've lift the weight or work against gravity. The second is holding your breath when powerlifting helps to stabilize the spine while performing the exercises. This is done by utilizing what is called the valsalva maneuver, which is responsible for increasing intra-abdominal pressure (IAP). In other words, the natural stability of a person’s core muscles. The third is exhaling while doing the valsalva maneuver, which is what you hear Goju-Ryu practioners do. The fourth is primal shout or primal scream for Kiai development. The last is from Yoga called uddiyana bandha. These breathing methods are found in the various kata. In Shotokan the breathing kata are Hangetsu & Tekki.

Hello just curious is cobra kai actually accurate in real life karate? And if so, why do the tournaments we watch in real life not as fast paced as in cobra kai or is it just because I have not searched far and wide enough for a cobra kai accurate real life karate fast paced sparring?
