My favorite theory that I heard was that there were 3 hiver queens but the dead hive queen died and the sudden lack of pheromones from the queen caused the hive to go feral. In order to keep surviving though they had enough presents of mind to use the mechanical parts of the queen's body to make more hivers. How you ask, why by eating people for their biomass. Part of this theory also believes that the bio-chamber that each of the queens have converts biomass into hivers. The western hive use crops like wheat and that's why they're brown, the southern hive crushes people into a red paste using the king before feeding it to the queen which is why they're red. For the dead hive, the theory is the princes eat people and then use the biomass they've collected and bring it to the queen's corpse since it's part mechanical and dump the biomass inside of it to make more fogmen. So the reason more fogmen appear after killing a queen is because they go insane when the queen in question stops producing pheromones and they go feral just like their dead hive cousins.

Personally I think that there was a third hive and their Queen had died but it wasn't the disconnect from the hive mind that caused the hivers to turn into fog men. Instead it was the fact that they were still connected to the hive mind while the queen was dead. I think that instead that the hive mind doesn't actually need the queen, I'm thinking that the hive mind is some sort of mechanical control mechanism and the queen is only its regulator. And that's also why hivers disconnected from the hive don't turn into fogman. Being connected to a dead hive mind what's turns you into a feral fogman.

Some hivers are shown to be "defective" in some way and never were connected to a queen, like beep. I assume these are immune to the deadhive transformation after a queen dies, since your own hivers don't turn into deadhive when you kill both queens yourself.

The way they build effigies and totems makes me think they aren't some mindless zombies. They're corrupted, yet intelligent and organized. Perhaps still part of a hive mind, twisted though it may be. There's also the fog coming from Obedience. What the hell is it, is it related to the deadhive? Well, I have some ideas, namely that it could contain some sort of toxic metal vapor (i.e. mercury vapor). We all know the floor, which the Behemoths are trapped in, is metal, and yet Obedience has 0% iron and 0% copper. The only three metals I can think of off the top of my head that would be able to be acquired in high quantities by an advanced civilization and are both liquid at low enough temperatures to not melt the behemoths are mercury, bismuth, and gallium, though there are probably a few more. Pure metallic Gallium is quite safe and can be handled with impunity, having very few toxic compounds and being completely inert in the human body (though ingesting it is still a bad idea) and Bismuth isn't studied very much but is thought to be less dangerous than lead. Elemental Mercury itself isn't the most dangerous metal to handle but if it gets into the body it can play havoc. Mercury compounds can range from not terrible (such as modern dental amalgam) to something you should stay the fuck away from at all costs, such as its organic compounds. Even a drop of organic mercury can kill, as it did Dr. Karen Wetterhahn, a chemistry professor at Dartmouth in 1997. She obtained a beyond lethal dose of the stuff from a single drop of dimethylmercury soaking through her glove. That's how nasty some mercury compounds are, but not all of them are that fatal, some simply cause long term health problems and can contribute to physical and mental disabilities in children in cases with severe bioaccumulation or high exposure. Mercury gases can fuck with the body's chemistry without outright killing you, something you'd think the humans, Shek and normal hivers at Mongrel would deal with but they're high up out of the fog. Perhaps this fog is partly some sort of vapor containing mercury, which has damaged the fogmen's biology and caused severe enough mental disability to make them turn savage and animalistic towards non-fogmen as a survival strategy. Mercury amalgams are almost perfect for trapping the behemoths. They're capable of being strong, lightweight, easy for that advanced of a society to synthesize in bulk, and can be either liquid or semisolid before they cure. Speaking of which, dental amalgam especially cures EXTREMELY quickly, which they'd have needed rather than dumping a bunch of molten steel on the behemoths and it taking weeks for that amount of steel to even begin to solidify. As for the fogmen traveling that far south to the Southern Hive, well, we the player don't tend to have much of a reason to wipe them out, I mean, they mostly keep to themselves unlike the skin bandits and skeleton bandits and dust bandits and the cannibals and hungry boys and UC and every other major group of wannabe badass schmucks who will literally walk a hundred miles and throw half their faction at your wall of six barreled harpoon cannons just for the minuscule chance of putting a small dent in your masterwork crab armor. Yet we still go out of our way to turn their queen into a wet smear at the end of the day. Why is it so improbable that the deranged deadhive princes would hear of the Southern Queen's recent wet smearing and decide meat's meat, even if it came from their fellow bugmen?

I always assumed they represented a third hive that lossed it’s queen and suffered a catastrophic failure of their hive mind that drove them all crazy, since that seems to happen when the other queens are killed. But that doesn’t account for how their numbers don’t seem to drop over time.

@PerfectDeath4 Жыл бұрын
Maybe its something to do with the birth of a hiver, after all the hiver queens are robotic. So, maybe killing a queen results in the creation of a dead hive? Like if the broken machine that produces new hivers still functions but makes fogmen "defects" instead. Either way we know next to nothing of the hiver life cycle, how are they born, how do they grow, etc... Maybe the fogmen is the natural state, they reproduce on their own, but the queen's machine "takes them over"? Also, isn't there an island called the Tower of Fog off the west coast of Vain. Has a bunch of foggies with a prince, some mods change this though to add the fog king.

I have assumed, since discovering them, that the queens are conduits for the hivemind, not the source. All hivers, unless cast out from it, emit the hivemind signal, and the queen is the coordinate that processes and interprets the signals of the hive and uses that to relay orders to the others. Once the queen dies, the hivemind's ability to coordinate dies with it, and it induces a sort of madness. They're still connected to one another, but now the signal isn't bouncing back, each is almost half an individual shackled to each other's will. So it makes them go mad, and the urge to "feed the queen, protect the queen" is projected onto the Princes, who take on the Queen's need to consume in order to keep herself reproducing, or maybe it's a breeding instinct to provide genetic material to the now-dead body of the queen in order to produce more eggs, gone wild since there is now no queen to control the instinct anymore. It may well be that the breeding instinct and the instinct to provide food for the queen has become one and the same with the death of the queen. As for their numbers, I assume that the queens do not need to be "alive" to perform their reproductive function, however it may work in-universe. Both the Western and Southern Hive queens are clearly mechanical in nature, and each hiver seems to have sprung from them. So I imagine that SOMEWHERE in the fog, there's some deep, dark hole that only the Deadhive can access, where the queen lays, dead and dormant, still pumping out eggs mechanically as the princes empty a constant stream of meat into her like a food processor. Assuming that the Hivers function, like they seem to be based on, like an ant colony, the queen potentially lays hundreds t thousands of eggs daily, it could explaining the never-ending stream of Fogmen. And the fog... Since it doesn't take over Vain, Dreg or the Royal Valley, it CANNOT be a product of the Deadhive itself, but simply something that is VERY convenient to the hive's primary hunting strategy of ambushing travelers in huge numbers. The Fog is something else. I don't believe it's naturally occurring, because it NEVER dissipates or moves along. So it's either a phenomenon caused by something in the Fog Islands or it's a biproduct of what happened in Obedience, since it is also covered in the same deep, thick fog.

I think if a hiver is not with a hive, they can turn into a fog man except the ones like beep or something like that. There is an interesting interaction when you go to a hive shop as a hiver, the shopkeep goes ballistic saying how hiveless brings madness an keeps braiding your hiver until they leave, and you have to wait around 30sec to a min for the shopkeep clams down.

I think how the fog hivers were born is this who ever made the hivers had also made a queen in each direction i think with different colors to tell them apart and when you do some mod screening you find something weird about the queens they aren't hivers their robots with way less health so if were just gonna say that all this is on purpose it's possible that the person who made the hivers made a hiver queen and not a robot one and it failed and died so he made the rest robots to save his projects so that's what i believe happened

Back in the day I liked making a base on one of the Fog Islands near Mongrel. I thought that maybe the Fogmen had a secret underground lair where multiple Queens dwell. But the caves are filled with the "fog" and all the queens are near mindless creatures devouring any non female and endlessly producing offspring. Its the need for food and safety that drives the males out onto the surface to eat anything they can. And its the fog that causes all hivers born from the infected queens to be as they are and keep them within the fog, for without the fog these fogmen cannot survive out of the fog. Like your Kenshi lore and speculation videos, very entertaining. Thanks

Recruiting fogmen a bit difficult and more or less not worth because they are slightly weaker than the other hivers. My theory is they are just invading these places simply because they detects other hives lost their queens and that causes chaos in the mind of fellow hivers. My hope in kenshi 2 they will be added along with southern hive and northen hive (modded hiver race). They could fit into the creation story of the hivers also would be interesting to see how the enforcers will play out or any other forgotten or non introduced races will be added.

My theory is that the deadhive is what happens when a new queen is hastily produced. I imagine that normally the hivers prepare a new queen to take the place of the old one as she reaches the end of her lifespan. Producing a new queen is probably a delicate process that takes time. This process is rushed when the queen is assassinated which leaves the new queen vulnerable to a parasite. Once infected, every hiver she produces is born with a parasite of their own driving them all mad.

new kenshi lore oh hell yeah! These videod make me want to try my hand at kenshi lore, I might make some content soon. I've always been on the side of "parasites caused the deadhive" but I also like the theory that it just happens to a hive when a hive loses it's queen which turns the princes mad. My new fav theory I never considered until this video that exhaust or smoke or some toxic gasses from the decaying behemoths of obedience might be the source of the fog and by extension the deadhive. That seems plausible and lore wise its cool because its an unforseen consequence of the obedience that didnt show itself much later; the release of toxic gasses from the behemoths. I have a mod with mist-ghouls, which are just yolked out scary hivers, and they only show up in obedience so it makes sense that the closer a deadhive gets to the source of the fog, the more aggressive they'd become. Also behemoths had to be run on some form of nuclear fission or some crazy type of energy, so it would make sense that burying a large number of nuclear powered war robots would completly change and destroy and areas ecosystem by releasing chemicals and coolants into the soil.
