Oslo isn't a cheap city to live. I asked Norwegians what the housing costs are like in Norway's capital city.

She said she shares a room though, not a flat. So she shares a room in a flat with several flatmates, probably. It’s possible to get a small room in a flat in Oslo for $500, but then you probably share the apartment with 3-4 other people.

@@TheFalseShepphard I would simply say shut up. The house prices in Norway has gone up 15 times at the low point with the inflation since 1995 and that's outside Oslo. In Oslo the house prices has skyrocket between 20 and 50 times since that time along with the inflation. It is more expensive today too rental meaning it's less for you too save up money too buy a home and with the house prices going up too the skies it is impossible too buy a home if you don't have a rich family. It is become a huge problem specially if you wan't too be living in Oslo. It's nearly impossible if you are single today. And do you know how much the smallest apartment cost? From $300.000 and that's just about from 25 square meter apartment. If you wan't too have a comfort home late us say 60 square meter that would easily go for $500,000-600,000 and above and that's even with a high costs too the shared costs with other apartments.

People need to stop comparing Oslo to global cities. Oslo is a kind of provincial city in a provincial region that doesn't have multinational companies that attract workers from everywhere who inflate rent prices (like Seattle)

A lot cheaper than the US. Our rent in NJ was 800usd back in 2008 🤣 Oslo is very convenient, better public transportation, peaceful, cleaner! Sure we can get rent here in the Metro Manila Philippines at 100-210usd but the safety 🤣🤣😂 even at mid-higher end, it's living in a bubble until you have to step out of the apartment/gated village and daily city-anxiety hits 😭🤣😭

Me and my family live in norway and my parents has to pay 26.000kr per month, it depends if youre living alone or with your family. If you live with your family the rent is much higher than living alone in Oslo.

Considering the average pay of Norwegians is $30k USD a year after tax, where everyone is highly educated, the cost of living is actually more atrocious than CA. My husband works in a grocery store and takes home $25k. That pay is close to scraping the poverty line.

In the US you have to do your own taxes and pay them once a year, is that 25k your husband makes before or after taxes?

That isn't math'ing.. I've at least 50k usd after taxes with decent wage for a job that doesn't require any education nor "talent". But even if that was true, relinquishing some shopping power for greatly reduced hours per week, all the vacation required by law and options for further time off is fair to me. As with wages, cost of housing depend greatly on location, you could easily find an appartment 30-40minutes from Oslo for 1/3 of the price if not cheaper.

Damn my first apartment with my ex was $900 not including utilities for a 1 bedroom and it was in a bad part of my city and I live in Tulsa,Ok which is kinda cheaper to live here compared to other parts of the country but why does it seem like it gets more expensive to rent or own every year or so? I’m kinda young so I don’t really understand it I’m just dumb lol

In Norway, you get less income, pay a lot in tax and have to pay a lot for food, housing, electricity etc. On the other hand, we get better results with health services. The people in Norway are mostly satisfied with what we get.

how could Europeans who did not have a communal culture afford to live with other people? We Indonesians whose communal culture is too strong and sometimes even become a nuisance, prefer to rent a room alone.
