Yes, having dealt with Italians for many, (too many) years, I can say 100% that there's a foreigner hike-up on everything! Best to say, "no thank you" and move on to the next (abandoned) property.

Yep, when we were in Italy we tried to tell folks they will gringo gouge you there, "oops" I mean foreigner gouge. LOL Portugal and Spain, same thing. Thank you for having the courage to speak up about the foreigner gouging happening even in Europe. Blessings.

Well, lol.......it's just English language, no one owns it, the fact is, people say that phrase all the time, they also say, "Everyone is so nice here", is that when you're treated best until you accidentally do something to upset those people, like decide to not give them your money? I live in Ecuador as we speak.I left Cuenca for this reason. Ecuadorians and some expats are constantly looking for ways of scamming foreigners, but with some skill, you can navigate it. I'm leaving Ecuador because the country is horribly mismanaged but I will continue to live as an expat.

In order for you to get a retirement visa in some countries, a poor Asian one that begins with Ph for example, you must deposit $20000 or $10000 in their bank depending on your income, and good luck ever seeing it again.

I am the biggest CHEAP SKATE anywhere and I am proud of it! I left the US for BRAZIL and could not be happier, been here off and on for 25 years Life here is SO MUCH better, cheaper, great healthcare (cheap), great food and great people IF I had to go back, I'd go live in California, LA or Long Beach, it suits my quality of life well and has family there. THE WORST GOUGING countries ; PORTUGAL !

The bottom line is countries are there to take care of their own citizens, not foreigners. If you visit a country you need to be a net positive to the country or it isn't worth it to them to have you visit. Knowning that you have to know unless you are a citizen, you will never get the cotizen rate. You can however negotiate to something mutually beneficial. The main problem I see is most westerners are not used to negotiation. We normally pay the listed price, but in the rest of the world , the listed price is often just a start of a conversation. Get better at the conversation and you will get better prices.

They make a lot of money on their different types of VISAs--they're not hurting. Anyone who goes abroad and pays the going/local rate is a net positive on that country. They rent, they buy groceries, they eat, they do all the touristy things at first....you don't have to over-pay to be a net positive. Thanks for sharing today.

What you describe is inevitable in the clash between people living in a less developed nation whose currency is less strong and gringos coming to take advantage of that. By choosing the cheaper option arguably you're taking that opportunity from less well off locals. Stand on your principles? The principle is your currency is stronger. All nations are basically the same in the end. They try to look after their own people and this is completely understandable.

notice that the mexican residency visa has gone through the roof for what they now demand to have as assets if you want to get mexican residency via buying in . no wonder you dont llist mexico for people seeking residency, however mexico still gives the 180 day tourist visa on demand and one can then do a visa run and come back. ; if you live exclusively off the gringo tourist trail you can still live inexpensively in mexico despite the low exchange rate for the dollar and euro and their ever present heavy inflation. the advantage to mexico is that it is close to home or you run up to texas in case of a emergency of any kinds, loved your excellent videos and you are the only ones really telling it like it is, please keep it up. hurray, RM, guadalajara, mex.

This is happening everywhere including Mexico...Africa...Costa Rica...Portugal...all of the places where expats are moving to!! I just looked at a video today that was about buying a brand new house in Merida Mexico and the house was going for 330,000 dollars... it wasn't worth that much money...those houses are put up so fast you wouldn't believe it!!! the house didn't have anything special about it...That house looked just like all of the rest of the houses...I would never spend that much for a house in Mexico because just 3 years ago that house would be nowhere near that amount...Mexico's economy has doubled since the ex-pats from all over the world have moved there...to rent a decent place there now is around 700 and up

Kind of related to the video: they got the Japanese translation of "Come Back Soon" wrong. That's enough to keep me away. Correct translation should be 早く戻ってきてください。The first translation, すぐに戻ります, implies that I/we will be right back immediately rather than come again at some vague point in the future. The problem is the internet has opened up the whole world and taken the fear out of traveling. Even the Russians and Chinese are traveling in large numbers. Expat communities are becoming larger everywhere and locals are feeling overwhelmed not just by expats but by large numbers of tourists. You tubers do not mean to create hardship and pollution for places they have found to be so great. However, that is what is happening. Too many people see the videos and some of those people want to travel and go to those beautiful places too. Then, they decide to do it too. On and on it goes. It has become a vicious circle that is escalating. It is probably better to stay out of most countries where you stick out like a sore thumb and also stay out of towns that are cruise ship ports in any country. I encountered extreme hostility in Costa Rica and Thailand and moderate hostility in Mexico; all 3 countries have lots of tourists and expats and apparently too many for the locals. We are in a solar maximum year and large solar flares can cause strong emotional flareups out of nowhere. Be careful if you are in a hostile environment.

Frank and Angie, Thanks for continuing to tell the uncomfortable truth. I can't imagine relocating to a third world/developing country unless it is MUCH cheaper than home. I have a different philosophy. I need a Gringo DISCOUNT for the third world infrastructure, poor to mediocre services and much higher crime rate to incentivize me to move to a developing country. I love the reference to "Where you are treated best" as his business is just another RAM pumper business that extracts a high GRINGO tax from his customers and pumps some very unsafe locations. "If you are a hammer, everything looks like a nail".
