The original i9 14900K was hot but oh my days the i9 14900KS is another level! We had to work really hard to even be able to get it to use its full all core boost clock!

@@BelowAmbient it does work well but opens up a lot of variables, everyone will have a different temperature, distance and spread. Plus it takes a relatively long time to warm up the tool. Perfectly valid if you have the feeling for it but less repeatable than just warming it up at a set temperature. You can also just turn it on and run prime for a while!

Delidding and going direct die & watercooling on my 9900KS and 12900KS and my friends 14900KS rig I built for him honestly felt like a mandatory step to be able to hit the top clocks the those chips were able to. Absolutely not enough thermal headroom otherwise. Great vid Tom.

Interesting. I fully agree with you that Intel should have an option to just provide these delidded straight out of the box with full warranty, instead of almost forcing people to delid it themselves and not honoring warranty.

I've seen quite a few people doing 6.0-6.2 all-core, e-cores disabled, with the 13900KS & 14900K using direct-die + a strong custom loop - something like a Hardware Labs GTX or, better yet, GTR with something like Phanteks T30 fans (GTR w/ T30s in push/pull is a perfect match for top-end performance). I'm therefore hoping for 6.2-6.4 all-core with the 14900KS w/ that setup.

I used the Rockit cool one to delid all of mine and it works fine if you heat the IHS up a little with a heat gun before you start. You don't have to reglue the IHS after the delid, you can just eyeball it and then install the contact frame which will hold it in place.

@@charlesnissom4007 It depends on the CPU, the ones with smaller dies like the 12100, 12400, 13600K etc... I didn't need to at all. The 13700K I just heated up the IHS for a minute or so until the IHS was around 175 - 200F then used the delid tool, once the IHS was broken loose I held the cpu carefully upside down with wire pliers and used the heat gun to heat the IHS until it fell off.

So I really want to get this and upgrade my water lock to direct die. What I worry about is if you can expect the direct die setup to work without issue for a few years. 🤔 I don’t want to have to fiddle with it every few months to reset the die/cpu seating or have thermal paste issues over time. What are your thoughts about the longevity of a direct die setup.

Interesting about the copper IHS not working out - I'm planning to do this to a i9-14900KS in the near future so it'll be interesting to see... To be honest, as I am using a contact frame, I won't be bothering with re-glueing the lid because that will hold the lid in place just fine (as it has with the last two CPUs). Also means I won't need to mess about getting glue off if I decide to get that EK direct-die AIO which definitely does look interesting!!

just do intel specs = (performance profile = 307A / 253W) - (extreme profile = 400A / 253W) intel has a set of power limit profiles (pl1 , pl2 ) for cpu to operate at. do that and you should be fine. and also asus has a junk enhancement profile = (512A / 4095W) that is insane go to bios and disable all enhancements and apply one of those profile by intel just google intel power profiles for 14900k. hope i helped.

86 c for an aio 360 rad which is simply not enough to cool 400 watts. Really is not to bad under load. My ks come's in two more days. I'll post my numbers and temp on a high end custom loop with a mo-rad 420 pro which is basically 6 360 rad's or a car radiator for that matter and a EK-Quantum Velocity² direct die block.. I'm guessing 70's c under full load..

Msi is cooling 480w with a 240mm (28mm thick) out of a rtx 4090. So, even if you reduce the water temp by 5 degrees increasing rad surface or fan speed you aren't gonna benefit on cpu temps by a significant margin. If you want to improve that result you need a better WB since the power density of the die is the limit and you need to remove the heat more quickly. People forget that radiators dissipate heat from the water, not from the cpu.

How could this perform worse than the K? I don't see how that makes sense, because this IS just a very high quality K with better binning, right? If you tune the CPU to similar K model specs, it should easily be able to surpass the K with lower voltage and temps due to better silicon. At least that's what i would imagine. I think this doesn't quite tell the full story. You're essentially just paying for a guaranteed higher bin. Theres no reason you NEED to run at 6.2. Why not run at K specs, with 5.7 or even 5.8 all core if you can, and have a more efficient CPU.
@OC3D
@OC3D 2 ай бұрын
Because when it gets hot - it throttles so the clock speeds drop. If the clocks speeds are consistently lower than the K then it performs worse. Simple.

@brennan2007 2 ай бұрын
@dashkataey1740 because I wanted a really good 14900k, but I bought 4 and they were all ass. For the extra $100 or whatever it's worth all the wasted time buying, waiting, and returning CPUs. If I could have just found somewhere selling high grade 14900k CPUs I would have just went that route. Plus, performance aside, I think is just a cool piece of tech, and the last of its kind.

@OC3D what I'm saying is if you limit clock speeds, though. Put all core to 5.7, and maybe let the best 2 cores turbo up to 6.0. Just set it up similar to a 14900k, and give up on letting try and hit 6.2, while also undervolting/setting a lower manual VCORE. Wouldn't it actually perform better than a 14900k in that situation, given the chip is simple a better quality copy of the 14900k, just with higher boost potential?
@NINEWALKING
@NINEWALKING 2 ай бұрын
Again, it is a complex issue and answers it with one liner. That is not that simple, though. To get good cooling, one should make it as efficient as possible. You get that true the good contact, good thermal interface, having less layers of the contact interface material, good pressure, goid matching surfaces etc. etc. You can improve cooling right there a lot. But then, completely different category cones in place that people somehow forget. Your cooling system has to be able to handle the amount of the energy as well. You can't cool 400 Watt with the cooler that gets saturated by 300 Watt in long term load scenario. In games same CPU makes two times lower RMS heat and then cooler has reserve mass and cooling potential to ride the fast peaks over and survive. But main thing is it can handle the load. It really gets complex introducing working temperatures and pressure. We are working with low pressure low target heat cooling circuits. In other scenarios like in cars you get high pressure and over 100 degrees Celsius water temperature. Same radiator surface can cool different amount if heat there. Our water stays relatively cool compared to our CPU temperature. We have low pressure systems. So to absorb bigger amount of heat we need bigger radiators and more watter. If we are less efficient we need even bigger system. I do not need to delid my 14900K and I am getting good results. I my system with the stock speed settings I see maximum draw of 404 Watt. I can run 24 threads of Prime95 small FFT for ever and be in mid 80 degrees range. How come? Huge water cooling loop. Water capacity over 2 liters. Alphacool Monsta 480 and 240 both in push pull. 1/2 ID tubing and D5 at 4800 rpm. Huge EK X3 400 reservoir. EK blocks on 14900K and 4090. Cheap contact frame and Kryonaut Extreme. Very good mount. It does the job cooling two high power things because it can handle the amount of the heat. It would be more efficient with the delid and liquid metal but why would I do it? In gaming temperatures are great. It handles highest loads great. Why would I loose warranty or the resale value? So no you can't cool 400 Watt heat constant load with system meant to cool 300 Watt. Normal AIO's can't handle it. And yes you do not need to delid 14900KS if you have sufficient cooling capacity.
@eliadbu

at this point Intel should be selling this CPU delided, like what is the point of IHS on chip with such high thermal density ? and it's enthusiasts product so those who buy will manage to put deal with non normal CPU, not that those who buy it won't be able to delid it, but why lose the warranty ?

Well Iv been running for a few day's now Iv got my 14900ks running at 6.100 all p-core's e-core's 4.4 ram 6400. she's a cooker. Best temp on full load with direct die liquid metal iceman block run package heat came in at 74 to 78 c. with the velocity block on the chip i was 76 to 82c. package power 332w. Iv had zero luck pushing past 6.1 all core overclock with any reliability. Running on Z690 Maximus Extreme Mobo i gained 200 mhz over 14900k.. So if you like to play around and have the free cash it's up to you. But it's basically the same chip as 14900k i was hoping id get a much better hand picked die. I don't think it's even that. My 14900k runs at 5.9 just great and at 67 c under full load. Which draws less power.. Now back to rust.

Going to run it stock, Disableing the E Cores, with a 360mm radiator and hope for the best. Even if it runs in the 80s, thats ok for these chips. All these Tech heads are going to push you to buy all their gimmicks, telling you that you gotta have this type set up with this cooler to be safe. Blah Blah Blah.. Every single one of them are going to tell you the same line of BS. This chip was made for gaming and thats it. Multicore guys should stick to something else. Im running a 13900K right now, 4090, 8000 speed ram, Z790 Apex, 360mm in Push pull config. slapping in this 14900KS will be no problem. They just came out with the new BIOS also for 14th gen chips that will give us even more performance and power capabilities. BIOS 2002 I get my chip next week 3-20-24 and cant wait. This will be the end for the Z790 Boards, so I wanted to go out in style. 😊

Overclocked 14900Ks slower than a 14700K in some benchmarks, I think he needs to learn how to actually build an enthusiast computer. Great you got it on a direct die setup, but it looks like this was setup very poorly in the bios. Just pure laziness for an enthusiast chip.

No, no, thanks! I bought 7600x (because 7700/x and 7900/x have +/- the same Gaming performance) and im very happy with it!!! I dont know, is it luck or all of them can do 5.15ghz @1.1v 😮, really, i set that manually at Bios and its perfectly stable in all games and programms, tested with prime95, with occt, all good! AND - overclocked my Gskill Flare X5 (Samsung chips) 6000 cl36-36-36-96 to 6400mhz (at stock voltage and changed some 2nd timings to 36-36-36-76-112) and it runs STABLE! CPUs infinity fabric stock 2000mhz, ram 6400mts and memory controller 3200mhz ❤ (2:1 balance keeped)! Temps in games ~55C with one tower Deepcool cooler at Silent vent profile in Bios! Perfect CPU together with rtx3090 gpu (downclocked, undervolted too, 1740mhz @0.775v) ❤! Its my 1st Ryzen, i always was Intel fanboy, but sorry Intel, i dont want Intel anymore, eat more and nothing special! Before Ryzen last Intel was i5 13500 (best INTEL CPU for buck), 4.5ghz all core @1.17V, super stable! Maybe will upgrade to 7700X, but i know that it will be worse than my 7600X...luck only one time 😂!

Wrong. If you already have a custom loop Z790 system then it's an obvious choice. My 14900KS arrives tomorrow and the EK direct die conversion kit is sitting on my workbench 🙂

Delid and use iceman or supercool is option best. Option 2 use copper and frame and it just work no glue but temps not as good as iceman. Also for people that use rocket tool is much better than EK trash will strip it. This channel needs to change name to amateur work oc. This is marketing sale for EK. Wow what a trash. My temps are 65 c 6.0 4.6 ….all other ones i did are low 70is running r23. Ek Aio DD is okey for Aio

No need to be offensive dudio. Ive been as transparent as I could be and will continue to try and work out what the problem is with the rocket cool stuff. I bought all of those parts myself because I was actually interested in trying something different. It just didnt work out in the time I had available.

@@OC3D Not offensive at all! Just telling the truth really. EK might be your friend but their DD block lga 1700 is a garbage that xoc community has reviewed , their tool and oven deal is a joke. Their DD aio is okey but does not touch the Iceman DD or Supercool DD that cost 80 dollars vs marketing junk of 300+. I have delid over 30 13900k and 14900k and with all the testing in the world 6.0 4.8 is a joke if done right in a custom loop and you will never see 80c

Hi im building a new video editing PC, Primarily for Premier pro and after effects. Just want to get everyone's thoughts. If everything is compatible and makes sense. Also a couple questions Can the Asus motherboard support the 14th gen with a bios update? Im open to new case ideas but very hard to find 420mm radiator supported cases.
