For an explanation on whether or not the sweaty strats are still being used, there was a pretty big development. Basically, after SHiFT's video was released telling this story, runners decided that they were going to take the idea a step further. They discovered that by physically destroying (scratching) very specific parts of the disc, you could have much more consistent lag clips than you could with sweat. This went on for a short time before multiple issues came up which would require action to be taken against this strategy. 1. If everyone's disc is different, then the moderation team has no way of telling whose hardware is or isn't modified. 2. The game is in finite supply. If people are chewing through discs and destroying them every couple weeks to stay competitive in runs, there is no way they can keep it sustained. 3. The huge variations in disc readers across Xboxes made running the game very inaccessible. As a replacement to render lag clips in runs obselete, runners would be allowed to soft-mod their consoles to load and play the game off their Xbox's internal hard drive. This saves so much time in loads that the usage of lag clips in runs was deemed unnecessary. Another positive effect is that across all Xbox models, there are only 2 variants of the internal hard drive with a relatively small difference in speed, which makes the run more accessible. @@-fv he addresses it in his followup vid, basically loading times are generally pretty consistent on a specific console, so there's no reason to cut them out compared to PC games, where equipment can vary drastically, which is why loads are removed for those. Plus, loads play a large factor in routing. In addition, removing loading times can result in some degeneracy, where people would end up abusing their discs past the recommended amount, getting good lag clips at the expense of having massive load times, which is counter to the concept of "completing the game as fast as possible." Hope that clarifies!
