The greatest sci-fi series of all time. And if ABC hadn't got greedy after seeing the ratings for the premiere and rushed it into a weekly series it would have gotten even better and lasted a lot longer making three or four three hour movies per year like Mr. Larson originally intended....

If you're here than you are obviously a bit more than a just a "Major Big Box Office Franchise Only Fan of Science Fiction" in other words YOU know that the Genre was NOT invented in 1977, you have not pigeon holed your taste, and you may just be what I like to call a 'Comprehensive Science Fiction Fan' rather than a 'mainstream only' Fan! I'm glad you are! I therefore submit for your discovery an introduction to my 1984 production - correct 1984 (of this date fewer than 7000 persons have viewed it's 'Official Trailer') which like BSG, dared to have the audacity to even exist on the same planet as Big Box Office (as far as *mainstream* fans were concerned) Here's a recent Documentary about it: kzbin.info/www/bejne/oWioi3Vme7Vgn8k

What a terrible idea 'Galactica 1980' was. It ruined the memory of the show so badly, even though I was born in 77' I never saw a single episode re-aired on TV until ScFi Channel started showing it in the late 90s. I so rarely ever heard the show mentioned I had no idea what it actually was until then. - Thanks Glen for such great TV shows.

Larson later regretted making 1980. The only reason he did it was that ABC gave him a green light to do more BG but he would have to do it CHEAP. Therefore, Larson moved the action to contemporary Earth and trimmed the cast down considerably although Lorne Greene was essential. All the decisions were budget-oriented and scripts were written with bare-bones necessity. Hence, you get what you pay for. Thankfully, being opposite the news program 60 Minutes killed it quickly.

@trha2222 they tried to redeem it by making it look like he made it back to the fleet in the comic strip after this episode. They was planning to do the story line on the rest of the missing cast as well. It made me sad too knowing he was going to starve to death there.

Battlestar Galactica had a great premise: What if there was another race of humans living out there in outer space? That's what science fiction is all about. Predicting future technology. Possible alien life forms. Other worlds. We never know there could be another race of humans out there beyond the stars on distant worlds.

Yes,, so many people fail to grasp this! And just dismiss it as a Star Wars ripoff (no it wasn't! 😡) . Whereas the grossly overrated piece of felgergarb that is Ron Moore's so-called 'reimagined' BSG (in name only!) aside from being a complete mistake and massive misdirection (stuffed with unlikable and dysfunctional characters 👎) is in fact one of THE most derivative and unoriginal series on air: Space Above and Beyond + The Terminator + Blade Runner + Westworld (1973) and fembots from The Bionic Woman....but no lawsuits against that(!?)...and everyone keeps on lavishing praise and accolades for it! 💩🤮🤬😠👎👎👎

The big three networks never understood sci fi or their fanbase. BSG, original Star Trek, Buck Rogers, etc. All those shows had a short runs on network tv because of the network executives meddling and shortsightedness . Is it any wonder they are now losing market share to the likes of Netflix, Hulu, Amazon etc. If these platforms had been around back then, BSG and the other sci fi shows would have had a longer run.

The original Battlestar Galactica was good for its time anyway even though it wasn't more than a year it was still a great show to look at and if it weren't for that show the new one would have never been invented 23 years later. SO SAY WE ALL.

Great show loved the name battlestar galactica. Too bad the studio got cold feet of the expense of the show, Glen mentioned he really had to cut back on the story, who knows where he could of taken us> I wold like I if they would ditch the cylons for a season and started to find other things out there, like remains of the thirteenth colony like a abandoned ship some tech on a moon and other aliens friendly and not friendly. Tips from the thirteenth go this way and watch out there!

It sure was bad. The only episode I liked was "The Return of Starbuck", which was more like the original episodes of the 1978-79 Battlestar Galactica. I was in tears after Starbuck's friend, "Cy", was killed by his brethren Cylon Centurions, trying to save Starbuck. And Starbuck was alone again.

4:08, Still shocked til this day that Battlestar and general fans haven't at least tried to recreate the 'Cloven Hooves' scene from War Of The Gods Part 2?! Censors at the time didn't want to scare kids and family members or offend them even. But since then television has more than seen the likes of science fiction/fantasy demonic imagery in such shows like; Buffy & Angel, Supernatural, Charmed, Vampire Diaries, Tru-Blood, GvsE and untold more shows in the past 4 decades. Surely fans could try to recreate the scene or shot of what exactly; Captain Apollo saw inside the wreckage Count Iblis crashed ship in part 2 by now! Fans could so easily create a shot using highly detailed props and digital effects to blend to the original filmed sequences and show us all up close and personal, as to what; Apollo and Starbuck saw inside the ship i reckon. A movie length War Of The Gods Special Edition is what needed here methinks!

Glen's original code title for BSG was Adam's Ark. By the time Star Wars (IV) became a blockbuster & sci-fi was once again taking a foothold into the mainstream (including CEotTK the year before), this was the window of opportunity that Glen had to take to showcase his Adam's Ark into a series. Originally It was only supposed to be just a miniseries until it became a full series as a last minute decision. That itself is like wow, the new reimagined series started off as a miniseries, it's almost like deja Vu! Anyway, sure yes, the original series did sort of copy Star Wars in some respect. One big reason for that is that they hired John Dykstra who was part of the special effects crew on Star Wars. The rest is Tv history. There have been talks about having a new BSG, as so far just a movie, and unlikely to use actors from both the original & reimagined series, although I could imagine a cameo here & there, but we'll have to wait if & when the BSG iteration comes to fruition.
